Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchacdintouch.dll is an ACDInTouch application component supplied with older ACDSee installations, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the exact ACDSee version that originally used it, rather than downloading a replacement DLL and placing it in System32.
The file is described as ACDInTouch DLL and belongs to ACDInTouch Dynamic Link Library, developed by ACD Systems Inc. ACDInTouch was integrated into older ACDSee products for receiving product updates, plug-ins, and related information.

Because ACDSee 5 and similar releases are legacy software, Windows 10 or Windows 11 may also expose compatibility, dependency, or 32-bit application issues. Work through the fixes below in order.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the exact ACDSee version
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, plus any time required to locate the original installer
#1 Best Overall
- The easiest way to scan photos and documents. Supports 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10 in sizes photo scanning but also letter and A4 size paper. Optical Resolution is up to 600 dpi ( PS: two setting: 300dpi/ 600dpi).
- Fast and easy, 2 seconds for one 4x6 photo and 5 seconds for one 8x10 size photo@300dpi. You can easily convert about 1000 photos to digitize files in one afternoon and share with your family or friends.
- More efficient than a flatbed scanner. Just insert the photos one by one and then scan. This makes ePhoto much more efficient than a flatbed scanner.
- Powerful Image Enhancement functions included. Quickly enhance and restore old faded images with a click of the mouse.
This is the most likely solution when the message appears immediately after launching ACDSee. A partial installation, damaged program folder, interrupted update, or incomplete uninstall can remove acdintouch.dll while leaving the main executable behind.
Do not mix files from different ACDSee generations. A file named acdintouch50.dll, for example, is not automatically a replacement for acdintouch.dll. Older ACDSee versions, ACDSee Pro releases, and newer Photo Studio products may use different components.
Identify the affected ACDSee installation
- Right-click the ACDSee shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Note the path in Target and the folder shown in Start in.
- If the shortcut is broken, search the computer for
ACDSee*.exe. - Right-click the likely executable and select Open file location.
The executable name may identify the generation. For example, error reports commonly associate ACDSee5.exe with acdintouch.dll, but the filename alone is not proof that every installation uses the same build.

If ACDSee is not listed, do not delete random folders first. Locate the original installer or recovery media and see whether it offers Repair, Modify, or Uninstall. If no installer is available, back up any catalogs, settings, and personal photos before removing the remaining program folder.
Install the matching copy
Use one of these sources:
- The original ACDSee CD or executable installer
- A trusted backup made from your own legitimate installation media
- An official ACD Systems support or download channel
Run the installer by right-clicking it and selecting Run as administrator. Install it into its normal application folder unless the installer requires another location.
After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch ACDSee from its installed shortcut.
- Confirm that the missing-file message no longer appears.
- Open a sample image and use the features you normally need.
- If ACDSee starts but immediately closes, continue with the dependency and compatibility checks below.
If the installer itself reports that a file is missing, is incompatible, or cannot run, the installer may be too old for the current Windows version. Continue to the compatibility section rather than copying a DLL from another computer.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Security software may quarantine an old application component, particularly after restoring an old backup, updating antivirus definitions, or downloading an installer from an untrusted source.

- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Look for an entry associated with ACDSee or
acdintouch.dll. - Expand the entry and review its path, detection name, and action.
- Restore the file only if you can confirm that it came from your legitimate ACDSee installation.
- Scan the computer before launching ACDSee again.
Microsoft warns that restoring a genuinely malicious file can put the device at risk. If the quarantined file came from an unofficial DLL archive or an unknown installer, delete it and reinstall ACDSee from legitimate media instead.

A reinstall is generally preferable to restoring one isolated file because it restores the complete, matching set of application files.
Fix 3: Check whether the error names a dependency
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A Windows loader message can name acdintouch.dll even when that file exists. The loader may have found the file but failed to load one of its dependencies.
Recommended Free Tools
Read the complete error carefully. These are different problems:
acdintouch.dll is missingusually means the named file was not found. The specified module could not be foundcan mean the named DLL or one of its dependencies is unavailable.Entry point not foundusually indicates a mismatched version.Bad imageor0xc000007bcommonly indicates an architecture or dependency mismatch.- An error naming
MSVCP71.dll,MSVCR71.dll, orMFC71.DLLpoints to an older runtime dependency rather than directly toacdintouch.dll.
The safest response is still to reinstall the complete ACDSee package. Do not download individual runtime DLLs from random websites.
If the original ACDSee installer explicitly includes an older Microsoft runtime, install it only from that legitimate installer or from an applicable Microsoft source. The current Visual C++ 2015–2022 redistributable is not a universal replacement for every older runtime library.
For a stubborn case, use a reputable dependency-analysis tool or inspect Windows Event Viewer to identify the first failing module:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Event Viewer.
- Expand Windows Logs.
- Select Application.
- Look for an error recorded at the time ACDSee failed.
- Check the Faulting application name and Faulting module name.
Treat this as diagnostic information. Do not replace modules at random based only on a filename.
Fix 4: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Older ACDSee releases are 32-bit applications. A 32-bit program can run on 64-bit Windows through Windows’ compatibility layer, but it still needs matching 32-bit application components and dependencies.
Do not assume that a file with a similar name is interchangeable. In particular, acdintouch50.dll is a different filename from acdintouch.dll.

To inspect the application:
- Right-click the ACDSee shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Do not enable compatibility settings yet.
- Record the executable path and product version if shown.
- Open the installation folder and check whether the matching DLL was supplied by the installer.
If ACDSee launches on another computer, do not copy its DLL blindly. The other computer may have a different ACDSee version, architecture, service pack, runtime, or installation path.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA 64-bit Windows installation does not make a 32-bit ACDSee DLL valid as a 64-bit system DLL. The component belongs beside the application that loads it, not in a global system directory.
Fix 5: Try compatibility settings for legacy ACDSee
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
ACDSee 5 documentation lists operating systems from the Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP era. That historical requirement does not guarantee compatibility with Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Try Windows’ compatibility tools after reinstalling the correct ACDSee version:
- Right-click the ACDSee executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run compatibility troubleshooter.
- Follow the prompts.
- Test the suggested setting.
- If it works, choose Yes, save these settings.
You can also select Change settings for all users and test Run this program as an administrator if the program cannot read its own installation directory. Do not assume a particular compatibility mode is guaranteed to work for every ACDSee build.
If ACDSee still fails, the practical options are a newer supported ACDSee release or an appropriately isolated legacy Windows environment.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components only when other programs also fail
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
acdintouch.dll is an application file, not a protected Windows system file. Windows’ repair commands normally will not recreate it. Use them when other applications also report missing or damaged Windows components, or when the problem began after broader system corruption.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test ACDSee again.
Success means DISM or SFC reports that repair completed, and other Windows-related errors may disappear. It does not mean SFC will restore acdintouch.dll.

Repeating these commands will not substitute for reinstalling the parent application. If they complete successfully but ACDSee still reports the same missing file, return to Fix 1.
If you would rather avoid repeatedly guessing which Windows component needs repair, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds; its free scan identifies problems, while repair requires the full version. Reinstalling ACDSee remains the definitive fix for a missing application DLL.
Fix 7: Update or reinstall related drivers only for a driver-specific failure
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
Graphics and device drivers do not normally supply acdintouch.dll. Do not begin by replacing drivers when the error identifies only this ACDSee component.
Driver work is relevant if ACDSee starts but crashes with a separate display, printer, scanner, or hardware error.

To check for driver problems:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the failing hardware, such as Display adapters, Imaging devices, or Printers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean reinstall:
- In Device Manager, right-click the affected device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm only if you have the correct replacement driver available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers instead of making you hunt through many hardware entries; its free scan shows detected issues, while driver installation requires the full version. A driver update is not a replacement for reinstalling the ACDSee program that owns acdintouch.dll.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent system change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
If ACDSee worked until a specific software installation, update, or driver change, System Restore may reverse that change. Microsoft says System Restore can revert system files, registry settings, and installed programs without normally affecting personal files.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the ACDSee failure began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
If there is no suitable restore point, reinstall the exact ACDSee version instead. System Restore cannot supply a file that was never part of the selected installation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not register or copy this DLL globally
regsvr32 acdintouch.dll is not a standard repair command for this file. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Ordinary application-support DLLs generally do not need registration.
If regsvr32 reports that the module was loaded but the entry point DllRegisterServer was not found, stop. Registration is not the remedy.
Also avoid these common actions:
- Copying the file into
C:WindowsSystem32 - Copying it into
C:WindowsSysWOW64 - Placing one downloaded copy in every application folder
- Replacing it with
acdintouch40.dlloracdintouch50.dll - Downloading a DLL from an unofficial archive
- Disabling antivirus protection to install an unknown file
Microsoft documents that unsafe DLL search paths can enable malicious replacement files. The normal application directory is searched before Windows system directories for ordinary desktop applications, which is why a verified file from the original installer belongs with the matching ACDSee executable when manual recovery is genuinely necessary.
Manual copying is acceptable only when the file comes from the exact original installer or a trusted backup, and only when you have confirmed the version and path. Reinstalling the complete product is safer.

What usually caused the error
The most common causes are:
| Cause | Appropriate response |
|---|---|
| ACDSee was partially installed, removed, or damaged | Repair or reinstall the exact version |
| Antivirus quarantined the component | Review Protection history and reinstall or restore only a verified file |
| The wrong ACDSee generation was installed | Remove the mismatched copy and use the original installer |
| A dependency is missing | Read the complete error and reinstall the package |
| A 32-bit legacy program is running on modern Windows | Verify the matching application files and try compatibility settings |
| Windows components are damaged | Run DISM, then SFC |
| A recent update or driver caused the change | Use System Restore |
| The application is simply too old | Move to a supported release or isolated legacy environment |
Frequently asked questions
Is acdintouch.dll part of Windows?
No credible evidence identifies it as a Windows component. It is associated with ACD Systems’ ACDInTouch service and older ACDSee software.
Which program calls acdintouch.dll?
Evidence most strongly connects it with older ACDSee versions, including reports involving ACDSee5.exe. The exact calling executable depends on the installed ACDSee generation.
Can I download the DLL by itself?
That is not recommended. A random download may contain malware, the wrong version, the wrong architecture, or an unresolved dependency. Restore it from the exact installer or reinstall ACDSee from legitimate media.
Should I copy it to System32 or SysWOW64?
No. It is an application DLL, not a Windows system DLL. Put a verified copy beside the matching ACDSee executable only when recovering from the exact original installation source.
Is acdintouch50.dll the same file?
No. The filenames are different, and similarly named ACDInTouch files should not be treated as interchangeable.
Will System File Checker restore it?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It does not normally recreate a missing third-party ACDSee component.
Why does Windows say the DLL is missing when it is visible in the folder?
A dependency may be missing, the file may be the wrong architecture, or the file may be damaged. A message stating that a module could not be found does not always mean the named file itself is absent.
When should I stop repairing the old installation?
Stop when the correct installer cannot run on the current Windows version, reinstalling does not resolve dependency errors, or the program remains unstable after compatibility testing. At that point, use a supported ACDSee release or an isolated legacy Windows environment rather than collecting individual DLLs.
