adobepim.dll is an Adobe application DLL, commonly identified as the PIM DLL. It is not a Windows system file, and the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Adobe product or Creative Cloud component that owns it.
The file is commonly loaded by Adobe Desktop Service and Creative Cloud installation or deployment processes. It may appear under Adobe Desktop Common, older OOBE or PDApp folders, an Adobe application-data directory, or an Adobe product’s own installation folder. The exact Adobe product cannot always be identified from the filename alone.

The available evidence points primarily to Win32 builds. Do not replace a missing file with an arbitrary 64-bit DLL. Reinstalling the parent Adobe application is the reliable way to obtain the matching architecture, version, dependencies, and signature.

What the error means
Windows may display messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because adobepim.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because adobepim.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading adobepim.dll.”
- “Failed to load AdobePIM.dll.”
- “adobepim.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.”
One documented Creative Cloud installation error reported 0xc000012f and occurred while launching CreativeCloudSet-up.exe. A message saying “the specified module could not be found” can also mean that a dependency of adobepim.dll is missing.
The path in the error is important. A path containing Adobe Desktop CommonCore points toward Creative Cloud or Adobe’s shared installation infrastructure. An OOBE or PDApp path usually indicates older Adobe installer components. An Acrobat or application-specific path points toward that product, although the shared Creative Cloud installation can still be damaged.
Fix 1: Repair Creative Cloud first
Use this fix when Creative Cloud will not open, an Adobe installation failed, or the error names CreativeCloudSet-up.exe, Adobe Desktop Common, OOBE, or PDApp.
- Save your work and close Photoshop, Acrobat, Creative Cloud, and other Adobe applications.
- Open Settings with Windows + I.
- Select Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Select the three-dot menu, choose Uninstall, and follow the prompts.
- When Adobe’s uninstaller offers Repair, choose Repair first.
- Restart Windows after the repair completes.
- Launch Creative Cloud and test the original Adobe application.
If the error remains, repeat the uninstall process and choose Uninstall instead of Repair. Download Creative Cloud again from Adobe’s official Creative Cloud download page and run the extracted Set-up.exe.
A successful repair normally allows Creative Cloud or the affected Adobe application to start without the DLL message. If the installer fails again, continue with the Cleaner Tool rather than copying a DLL from another computer.
Fix 2: Use Adobe’s Cleaner Tool after a failed reinstall
The Cleaner Tool is appropriate when a normal repair leaves behind damaged installation records, cached installer files, or incomplete Adobe components.
- Close all Adobe applications.
- Download the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool from Adobe’s official support site.
- Right-click the downloaded tool and select Run as administrator.
- Accept the license terms.
- Choose the Creative Cloud or Adobe product entries related to the failed installation.
- Confirm the cleanup.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Creative Cloud or the affected Adobe product again from Adobe.
- Run the official installer as an administrator if necessary.
Do not clean unrelated Adobe products unless you are prepared to reinstall them. The tool removes installation components; it does not repair a loose DLL in isolation.

Fix 3: Repair Acrobat separately
If only Acrobat reports the error and Creative Cloud works normally, repair Acrobat before cleaning all Adobe products.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select Adobe Acrobat in Programs and Features.
- Select Change or Repair, depending on the installer shown.
- Follow the repair wizard.
- Restart Windows and open Acrobat.
If Acrobat has no repair option, uninstall it from the same window, restart, and reinstall it using Adobe’s official Acrobat installer. If the error path points to shared Adobe components, repair Creative Cloud as well.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine or remove an Adobe DLL after an update or incomplete installation.

- Look for an entry involving
adobepim.dllor an Adobe installer. - Expand the entry and review its location and details.
Restore or allow the file only when all of the following are true:
- It came from a genuine Adobe installation.
- The file is in the expected Adobe directory.
- The Adobe installer and file have valid Adobe signatures.
- Windows Security identifies it as a mistaken detection.
If the file came from a modified, cracked, or repacked installer, do not restore it. Remove that installer, scan the computer, and reinstall Adobe from its official source.
Fix 5: Confirm the installation architecture
Most catalogued adobepim.dll samples are 32-bit Win32 files. That does not mean every Adobe release uses the same build.
Do not copy a 64-bit DLL into a 32-bit Adobe directory, or a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit application directory. Do not copy the file into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
On 64-bit Windows, those system folders have special redirection behavior, but that does not make an Adobe application DLL a Windows component. The correct location is the Adobe directory selected by the installer.
The practical architecture check is to reinstall the affected Adobe application. This lets Adobe install the correct file and its matching dependencies.
Fix 6: Check Windows components only when other symptoms exist
adobepim.dll is not a protected Windows system DLL, so System File Checker normally will not recreate it. Use Windows repair commands when Windows itself is showing broader problems, such as other built-in applications failing, repeated system-file errors, or update corruption.

Microsoft documents DISM image repair and System File Checker. If both commands complete successfully but Adobe still reports the DLL, the problem is probably inside the Adobe installation.

Graphics drivers are not the normal cause of a missing adobepim.dll, and updating a driver will not normally restore this file. Consider this path only if the Adobe error also identifies a graphics or hardware dependency.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters or the device category named in the error.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test Adobe.
You can also select Properties > Driver to review the installed provider and driver date. Avoid replacing drivers merely because the DLL error contains the word “module.”
Finding the correct driver manually can mean hunting through hardware models and comparing versions. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers; its free scan identifies issues, while driver installation is handled by the full version. This is optional and does not replace reinstalling Adobe when the missing file belongs to Adobe.

Fix 8: Use System Restore for a recent change
Use System Restore only when the failure began after a recent Adobe update, cleanup utility, driver installation, or system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore may undo a recent installer change, but it is not guaranteed to restore an Adobe DLL or repair Adobe’s installation database. If the error remains, run Adobe’s repair or Cleaner Tool procedure.
What not to do
Do not download a loose DLL
Random DLL download sites may provide malware, an altered file, the wrong architecture, or a version that does not match your Adobe installation. A copied file can remove one message while leaving Adobe’s installer database, signature checks, dependencies, and update state broken.
Use Adobe’s installer, Adobe’s repair process, or Adobe’s Cleaner Tool instead.
Do not copy it into Windows folders
Do not place adobepim.dll in System32, SysWOW64, or a random application directory. Windows DLL search rules do not turn an application file into a system file. Installing it globally can create conflicts and obscure the real Adobe repair problem.
Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain COM or ActiveX components. Adobe’s PIM library is loaded by Adobe software and is not documented as a COM control.
Running this command is therefore not a normal repair:
regsvr32 adobepim.dll
If it reports that an entry point is missing, that does not mean the file needs registration. Repair the Adobe product instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not install runtimes without a matching error
Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, and .NET are not proven fixes merely because the failing item is a DLL. Install a runtime only when Adobe or a specific dependency explicitly reports that runtime as missing.
FAQ
Is adobepim.dll part of Windows?
No. It is an Adobe application DLL used in Adobe installation and deployment components. It does not belong in the Windows system folders.
Which Adobe product uses it?
Public logs show Creative Cloud and Adobe Desktop Service loading it, while older paths include Adobe installer components. The filename alone does not provide a complete product-to-version mapping.
Should I restore it from antivirus quarantine?
Only after verifying that the file came from a genuine Adobe installation and has a valid Adobe signature. Otherwise reinstall Adobe from its official installer.
Why does “specified module could not be found” appear when the file exists?
A dependency loaded by adobepim.dll may be missing or incompatible. Reinstalling the parent Adobe component restores the file and its related dependencies together.
Will SFC fix the error?
Usually not. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, while adobepim.dll belongs to Adobe. Use SFC and DISM for broader Windows corruption, then repair Adobe separately.
What if Adobe works in another Windows account?
The original user profile may contain damaged Adobe cache or settings. Test with a new Windows profile, then review Adobe logs and repair the affected installation if the new profile works.
