The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Autodesk component that calls it. Autodesk Desktop App was discontinued and replaced by Autodesk Access, so current installations should generally use Access rather than trying to restore the old updater manually.

Do not download this DLL from a random DLL website. A replacement can contain malware, use the wrong version or architecture, and still leave the damaged Autodesk installation or missing dependency unfixed.
What installed adwingmanlib.dll
Public file records associate the file with Autodesk Desktop App. A commonly reported legacy path is:

The path can vary between installations. The commonly documented records are 32-bit PE32 files, including versions such as 7.0.15.17, 7.0.12.81, and 7.0.10.89. It may appear while starting AutoCAD or another Autodesk product, at Windows sign-in, or when an obsolete updater task runs in the background. Therefore, do not assume that AutoCAD itself is always the direct caller.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall Autodesk Access and Desktop App components
This is the most likely solution when the error began after an update, failed installation, cleanup, or removal of Autodesk Desktop App.
First check whether Autodesk Desktop App is still installed
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Look for Autodesk Desktop App in the installed programs list.
- If a repair or change option is available, select it and follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and test the Autodesk application again.
If Autodesk Desktop App is not listed, or repair fails, perform a clean removal of its remaining components.
Clean up the legacy Autodesk Desktop App
- Save your work and close Autodesk programs.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select the Details or Services view.
- Stop the
AdAppMgrSvcservice if it is running. - End
AdAppMgrSvc.exe. - End
AdAppMgrUpdater.exe. - Press Windows + R, type
appwiz.cpl, and press Enter. - Uninstall Autodesk Desktop App.
- Restart Windows.
Autodesk’s legacy procedure identifies these remnants for removal. Delete only the listed files, and skip any file that is not present:

To open each location:
- Press Windows + R.
- Paste the path.
- Press Enter.
- Delete the named file if it exists.
Do not casually remove Autodesk material libraries, licensing components, or folders belonging to other Autodesk products. A legacy cleanup can affect shared components if it is performed too broadly.
Avoid registry cleanup unless Autodesk’s procedure specifically requires it and you are comfortable working with the Registry Editor. Before changing the registry, select File → Export in Registry Editor and save a backup. Remove only entries clearly belonging to the obsolete Autodesk Desktop App.

After cleanup, install the current Autodesk Access component through Autodesk’s official Autodesk installation route. Then restart Windows and launch the Autodesk product again. If the error was caused by a damaged updater installation, the message should no longer appear.
If the error returns immediately at login, open Task Manager → Startup apps and inspect Autodesk entries. Also check Task Scheduler for an obsolete Autodesk update task. Do not delete a task merely because it contains the word Autodesk; confirm that it launches the missing legacy component.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the Autodesk product that triggers the error
If the error appears only when launching AutoCAD, Revit, Maya, or another Autodesk product, the product installation may be damaged even if Autodesk Desktop App was the original owner of the DLL.
Try the installed repair option
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected Autodesk product.
- Choose Uninstall/Change, Repair, or Reinstall, depending on what the installer provides.
- Complete the repair.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the same application that originally showed the error.
Older Autodesk installer generations may provide a direct Repair option. Newer installers may require a reinstall instead.
If repair is unavailable or does not work:
- Back up custom templates, profiles, plug-ins, and project files.
- Uninstall the affected Autodesk product from Settings → Apps → Installed apps or Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall it from your Autodesk account or Autodesk Access.
- Install the matching updates through the Autodesk installer.
- Restart again and test the application.
If every Autodesk product fails, repair the shared update component first. If only one application fails, reinstall that application before making wider changes.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
A security scan can remove or quarantine a file from an otherwise valid Autodesk installation. Do not restore an unknown DLL simply because its filename matches.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Inspect detections that appeared when the Autodesk error began.
- Check the detected file path and detection details.
- If the file came from the expected Autodesk installation and the detection is confirmed as a false positive, follow Windows Security’s Restore or Allow option.
- Restart Windows and test Autodesk.
If the file is quarantined again, stop restoring it. Reinstall the Autodesk component from a trusted Autodesk installer and investigate the security detection. Microsoft notes that Defender can detect a restored file again.
A missing file alone does not prove that the original file was malware, and a security warning alone does not prove that every copy with this filename is safe. Provenance, path, installer source, and the security history entry all matter.
Fix 4: Check the calling program, path, and architecture
A matching filename is not enough. The calling program and DLL must be compatible.

Find what launches the error
Note:
- The full error wording
- Whether it appears at login or only when opening an Autodesk product
- The executable named in the error
- The full path shown in the message
- Whether all Autodesk applications fail or only one
- Whether the problem began after an update, antivirus action, cleanup, or uninstall
Use Task Manager to inspect running Autodesk processes:

- Right-click a relevant Autodesk process.
- Select Open file location.
- Record the executable path.
- Compare it with the location named in the error.
If the error points to an obsolete Desktop App folder while current Autodesk applications work, a stale service, scheduled task, or startup entry may be the actual cause.
Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
The commonly documented AdWingmanLib.dll records are 32-bit, but public metadata is not fully consistent for every listed release. Verify the installed copy and the calling application instead of relying on a download page.
A 32-bit caller requires a compatible 32-bit DLL. A 64-bit application cannot be repaired reliably by copying an arbitrary 32-bit file into its folder. Do not place either copy in System32 or SysWOW64 as a general fix.
If the error says the specified module could not be found, the named DLL may be present while one of its dependencies is absent. Reinstalling the Autodesk package is safer than guessing which runtime to copy.
Fix 5: Reinstall a runtime only when diagnostics identify it
Visual C++ Redistributables are not a proven universal fix for AdWingmanLib.dll. Install or repair a Microsoft runtime only when the Autodesk installer, application diagnostics, or a clear dependency error identifies that runtime.
Do not install several unrelated runtime packages just because a generic DLL page recommends them. A runtime installation will not restore a deleted Autodesk DLL or repair a broken Desktop App registration.
Fix 6: Use DISM and SFC for broader Windows corruption
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally restore an Autodesk application DLL, so use them when Windows has additional symptoms such as damaged built-in apps, failed system components, or repeated Windows corruption errors.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC:
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test Autodesk again.
If DISM or SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application after restarting. If both complete without finding a problem, return to the Autodesk repair or reinstall path rather than repeatedly running the same commands.

A driver update is not a normal fix for a missing Autodesk application DLL. Consider it only if Autodesk also crashes with graphics errors, Windows reports device problems, or Device Manager shows a failed device.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters and any other category showing a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- Test the Autodesk application.
Use the device manufacturer or Windows Update for the correct driver. Do not use a driver update to substitute for repairing Autodesk.

System Restore can help if the failure started immediately after an update, cleanup utility, or other system change and a restore point predates the problem.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point.
- Select Finish and allow Windows to restart.
System Restore can remove applications, drivers, or updates installed after the selected restore point. It does not replace the need to reinstall Autodesk if the installation itself is damaged.
Should you run regsvr32?
Usually, no.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair command for application DLLs. Running this command blindly:
regsvr32 AdWingmanLib.dll
can produce “entry point not found” or “module could not be loaded,” and it may distract from the actual installation problem.

Only register the file if Autodesk’s specific installation instructions for your exact product and version explicitly require it. Do not run regsvr32 against a copy downloaded from an untrusted source.

Collect these details before making another change:
- The complete error message
- The executable that launches it
- The full path displayed in the error
- Whether the error occurs at login or during application startup
- The Autodesk product and release involved
- Whether Autodesk Desktop App or Autodesk Access is installed
- The result of Windows Security Protection history
- Whether reinstalling works under a new administrator profile
- Whether the file returns and is immediately quarantined
If the Autodesk product works under a new Windows profile, investigate corrupted per-user Autodesk settings and configuration. If the file returns only to be quarantined, do not keep restoring it. Verify the installer source, digital signature, file path, and security detection.
