If you want the closest follow-up to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, start with Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered. Ubisoft explicitly says its naval systems build on Black Flag, although you play as Shay in the North Atlantic and river valleys rather than Edward Kenway in the Caribbean. Choose Skull and Bones for ship progression and repeated naval battles, Sea of Thieves for shared-world voyages with friends, Windrose for survival crafting with ships and land combat, Sid Meier’s Pirates! for a classic single-player Caribbean sandbox, or Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii for a story-driven character-action game with pirate battles.

Resynced is already available: Ubisoft dates the ground-up remake to July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It combines Edward Kenway’s campaign with updated ship combat, stealth, on-foot fighting and seamless sea-to-land exploration. It is a single-player remake, not a new multiplayer pirate game.

What makes Resynced different from the original Black Flag?

Black Flag Resynced is Ubisoft’s 2026 ground-up remake, not a remaster of the 2013 release and not an online pirate MMO. Its core is still an Edward Kenway story, but the remake updates ship combat, stealth, melee fighting and the transition between sailing and landing on shore. Ubisoft says the main campaign can be played offline after a one-time internet download; live Animus Hub content requires a connection.

That distinction matters when choosing a replacement. A game can match one part of the formula—broadside combat, a historical setting, free-roaming voyages or a cinematic protagonist—without reproducing the complete combination. The ranking below therefore treats “similar” as a question of fit rather than a claim that any title duplicates every system in Resynced.

Which game is closest to Black Flag Resynced?

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered is the nearest overall match because it retains an Assassin’s Creed campaign on foot while directly inheriting the series’ naval design. Ubisoft’s own description says, “Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered builds on the award-winning naval experience from Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag®.” “Award-winning” is Ubisoft’s characterization, not an independently verified award assessment, but the stated lineage is unusually direct.

Immediately after Resynced, searches for “Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered PS4 physical game” make sense for readers who want a console copy; Ubisoft documents PS4 and Xbox One versions, while a retailer must confirm current stock, condition and region.

1. Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered — closest overall

Rogue Remastered puts Shay Cormac in command of the Morrigan. The route runs through the icy North Atlantic and America’s river valleys, so expect a colder, more enclosed maritime landscape than Edward’s Caribbean. The change of protagonist is substantial: Shay’s perspective turns the series’ faction conflict into the central story, rather than continuing Kenway’s arc.

For a Black Flag fan, the important continuity is structural. You leave the ship to explore settlements and wilderness, return to the helm for naval encounters, and develop an Assassin’s Creed-style campaign around that movement. It is therefore the strongest choice when land combat, stealth, story missions and ship handling all matter at once.

  • Choose it for: a solo campaign, on-foot exploration and the most clearly documented Black Flag naval successor.
  • Know before buying: the North Atlantic setting and Shay’s storyline replace the Caribbean and Edward; the cited Ubisoft material documents PS4 and Xbox One versions rather than current-generation editions.

2. Skull and Bones — best for ship combat and loadouts

Skull and Bones is the specialist pick for readers whose favorite part of Black Flag was fitting out a vessel and fighting at sea. Ubisoft defines it around ship classes, positioning, loadouts and build choices in a shared ocean. The official game page describes solo or group play and a shared world accommodating up to 20 players.

This is not a substitute for Edward Kenway’s stealth campaign. Its progression is naval: selecting a hull, weapons and equipment, then improving a build for the next encounter. Ubisoft’s May 6, 2026 roadmap for Year 3 names PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and highlights further naval progression. Treat roadmap language as a description of planned or live-service direction, not proof that every roadmap item had shipped at the time of publication.

  • 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)

Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

One concrete example from that roadmap is the Year 3 Galleon described with 40 gunports. That number belongs to Ubisoft’s 2026 roadmap; it is not an independently counted in-game measurement.

  • Choose it for: repeatable ship battles, equipment choices and a multiplayer ocean that can be approached solo or with a group.
  • Know before buying: it is online shared-world naval progression, not an offline Assassin’s Creed-style story and not a documented replacement for stealth or boarding-focused campaign missions.

3. Sea of Thieves — best for a crew

Sea of Thieves is the strongest fit when the appeal is setting sail with other people and reacting to whatever happens in a shared world. The official PlayStation description supports sailing solo as well as with friends, while its PS5 listing requires online play. The official purchase page describes 2026 editions and cross-platform voyages.

Its design changes the rhythm of play. Instead of a authored Kenway campaign, you undertake voyages, manage a crew, navigate toward objectives and deal with encounters created by other players or the world itself. That makes it excellent for social sessions and improvised stories, but unsuitable if offline solo play is non-negotiable.

Solo sailing is available in the official description, yet “solo” does not mean “offline”: the PS5 edition still requires online play. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing it with Resynced’s downloadable offline campaign.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Choose it for: cooperative voyages, cross-platform encounters and a living shared ocean.
  • Know before buying: online access is part of the PS5 requirement, and the game’s appeal comes from shared-world interaction rather than a linear historical campaign.

4. Windrose — best for survival crafting with ships

Windrose blends pirate PvE with survival systems. The developer-listed Steam entry dates its Early Access launch to April 14, 2026 and advertises ship command, land and sea combat, crafting, construction, solo play and online co-op.

That combination makes it the crossover choice for players who want more than naval encounters. You are not simply selecting a mission and returning to port: survival resources, crafting and building are part of the loop. The ship is both a combat platform and a base of operations within a broader survival game.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
  • Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Early Access is the decisive caveat. The listing still labels Windrose Early Access, so readers should treat its feature set and balance as a project in development rather than a finished alternative to a released remake. It is also not a historical recreation of the Caribbean or an Assassin’s Creed story.

  • Choose it for: PvE piracy combined with gathering, crafting, construction and cooperative survival.
  • Know before buying: the April 14, 2026 Early Access status is current in the cited listing; do not assume it has reached a full-release state.

5. Sid Meier’s Pirates! — best classic solo sandbox

Sid Meier’s Pirates! is the pick for a reader who values an open-ended Caribbean career over modern presentation. The Firaxis/2K listing describes raiding, privateering, enemies and buried treasure with single-player support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Its age is part of the appeal and part of the expectation-setting. The game organizes piracy as a sequence of opportunities—choosing targets, taking contracts, hunting treasure and dealing with rival powers—rather than as a cinematic remake with seamless transitions between a detailed modern city and a ship deck. It offers historical flavor and freedom, but not the visual fidelity or systems density associated with Resynced.

  • Choose it for: a solo Caribbean sandbox, privateering choices and treasure-hunting structure.
  • Know before buying: the cited listing does not establish a current platform matrix, and its classic design should not be mistaken for a modern remake’s presentation.

6. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii — best character-action wildcard

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii takes a different route to pirate adventure. Sega’s material stars Goro Majima, gives him two on-foot combat styles, lets him sail around Hawaii and adds the Pirates’ Coliseum with naval battles.

The result is a character-driven action game with pirate imagery and ship encounters, not a dedicated naval simulator. The on-foot fighting is the anchor, while sailing and the Coliseum provide the maritime layer. Choose it when a strong protagonist, exaggerated combat and a structured story matter more than building a historically grounded privateer career.

Physical-edition availability is platform-specific. Sega’s product documentation identifies PlayStation physical availability and excludes physical Xbox and PC versions. The announcement’s planned 2025 date is historical release planning, not evidence of a current release date, so consult the current platform listing before purchasing.

  • Know before buying: its pirate systems support a character-action format; they are not presented as a full replacement for Black Flag’s stealth-and-privateering campaign.

How do these games differ on the features Black Flag fans care about?

The fastest way to narrow the list is to decide whether your priority is a campaign, ship specialization, social sailing, survival systems or classic sandbox freedom.

Priority Best fit Why
Assassin’s Creed-style story plus naval play Rogue Remastered Retains the on-foot campaign structure and is explicitly linked by Ubisoft to Black Flag’s naval experience.
Ship classes, builds and repeated battles Skull and Bones Progression centers on loadouts, positioning and naval equipment in a shared ocean.
Playing with friends Sea of Thieves Shared-world voyages support crews and solo sailing, with online play required on PS5.
Crafting and building Windrose Combines pirate PvE and ship command with survival, resources, construction and co-op.
Classic Caribbean privateering Sid Meier’s Pirates! Focuses on raiding, contracts, enemies and buried treasure in a single-player sandbox.
Stylized melee story with pirate battles Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Majima’s two combat styles sit alongside sailing and the Pirates’ Coliseum.

Which games support solo, offline or co-op play?

“Solo” and “offline” are not interchangeable here. Resynced’s main campaign is playable offline after its one-time download, while Sea of Thieves can be sailed alone but still requires online play on PS5. Skull and Bones offers solo or group play inside an online shared world, and Windrose lists solo and online co-op.

Rogue Remastered and Sid Meier’s Pirates! are the clearest choices for a traditional single-player structure. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is likewise organized around a solo character-action story in the cited material. None of those descriptions should be expanded into an unsupported claim about cross-play, offline modes or physical availability.

What should collectors know about physical editions?

Ubisoft documents a physical Resynced Standard Edition and a physical console Collector’s Edition. Those are edition facts, not a guarantee that a particular retailer has stock, and no current prices are established here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the alternatives, Ubisoft documents PS4 and Xbox One versions of Rogue Remastered; the phrase “Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered PS4 physical game” is useful when filtering retailer results, but listings still need region and condition checks. Sega documents PlayStation physical availability for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii and specifically excludes physical Xbox and PC editions. The cited Sea of Thieves purchase page describes digital 2026 editions, so do not infer a physical PS5 disc from that page alone.

How we picked these six games

The ranking uses the feature differences documented by the publishers and developer listing, not playtime, benchmark scores or firsthand testing. The criteria are:

  • Solo, offline, online and co-op requirements, stated only where the cited material establishes them.
  • Historical Caribbean atmosphere versus fictional, North Atlantic, Hawaiian or shared-world settings.
  • Whether a title is an established release or remains in Early Access.
  • Documented platform and physical-edition information, without assuming retailer stock.

On those criteria, Rogue Remastered is the closest overall continuation, Skull and Bones is the naval-specialist option, Sea of Thieves is the crew-focused option, Windrose is the survival crossover, Sid Meier’s Pirates! is the classic solo sandbox and Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the character-action wildcard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I play Sea of Thieves by myself on PS5?

Yes. The official PlayStation description allows solo sailing, but the PS5 listing still requires online play. Solo therefore means playing without crewmates, not playing without an internet connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is Windrose a finished replacement for Black Flag Resynced?

No. Its developer-listed Steam page still marks it Early Access, with a launch date of April 14, 2026. It is a survival-crafting pirate game in development, not a remake of an Assassin’s Creed campaign.

Does Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii have a physical Xbox version?

Sega’s product documentation excludes physical Xbox and PC editions while documenting PlayStation physical availability. Check the current digital and regional listings for other purchase formats.

How many players can share the Skull and Bones ocean?

Ubisoft’s game page describes a shared world of up to 20 players. That figure refers to the game’s shared-world capacity, not a sales, audience or performance statistic.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
