It arrived on September 4, 2024, as a day-one Game Pass release. Xbox listed it for cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement did not list Xbox One, so this specific platform information should not be expanded into a claim of native Xbox One support.
Among the three headline additions, this is the clearest choice for players who want a substantial strategy campaign, base building and tactical combat. It is also notable because the launch brought the major Age title to Xbox console and PC in the same release window. The Game Pass announcement alone does not establish how well its controller interface performs, so console players should treat that as a separate consideration.
Riders Republic
Riders Republic is an open-world extreme-sports game built around a large multiplayer playground. Its activities include biking, skiing, snowboarding and wingsuit flying across environments inspired by U.S. national parks.

It joined Game Pass on September 11, 2024, with availability listed across cloud, console and PC. Unlike Age of Mythology: Retold and Train Sim World 5, it was not a day-one release: Riders Republic originally launched years earlier and was being added to the subscription catalog.
It is the easiest of the three headline games to sample in short sessions. Its immediate action, exploration and multiplayer structure make it a better fit for players who want to start playing quickly rather than learn a complex strategy or simulation system.
The announcement confirms the Game Pass addition of the game, not automatic inclusion of every expansion, cosmetic item or other paid downloadable content. Check the live regional listing before assuming that particular DLC is included.

Train Sim World 5
Train Sim World 5 is a railway simulation focused on operating trains, learning routes and completing route-based challenges. Xbox promoted three new routes and new roles and challenges as part of the release.
It arrived on September 17, 2024, and was identified as available day one with Game Pass. Xbox listed it for cloud, console and PC.
This is the most specialized addition in the group. Railway enthusiasts and players who enjoy methodical, systems-focused games are the natural audience, while anyone looking for immediate arcade-style action will likely find Riders Republic more accessible. The announcement confirms the Game Pass release but does not prove that every route pack, expansion or premium edition is included.

The other September additions
The same first-half announcement also included Star Trucker, which became available on September 3, and Expeditions: A MudRunner Game, which followed on September 5. Expeditions was listed for cloud, console and PC.
That means the complete first-half schedule contained five additions, not only the three games named in the headline.
Which game should you play first?
- Choose Age of Mythology: Retold if you want a campaign-driven real-time strategy game built around planning, resource management, settlements and tactical battles.
- Choose Riders Republic if you prefer fast access, extreme sports, open-world exploration, multiplayer and shorter play sessions.
- Choose Train Sim World 5 if you enjoy realistic transportation simulations, route-based replayability and learning detailed train-operation systems.
Games leaving Game Pass on September 15, 2024
Microsoft also announced that the following games would leave Game Pass on September 15, 2024:
- Ashes of Singularity: Escalation — PC
- FIFA 23 — cloud, console and PC through EA Play
- Payday 3 — cloud, console and PC
- Slime Rancher 2 — cloud, console and PC
- SpiderHeck — cloud, console and PC
- You Suck At Parking — cloud, console and PC
For that September 2024 removal window, Microsoft said Game Pass members could use a 20% discount to buy departing games. That was a time-specific offer and should not be treated as a guaranteed current promotion.
Game Pass availability and ownership caveats
The September 2024 announcement does not establish that these games remain in the current Game Pass catalog. Xbox says availability varies by plan, platform, region and time. Cloud access also depends on supported devices, regions, plans and the cloud library.
Game Pass provides access to catalog games while the subscription is active and while each title remains available. It is not permanent ownership: access ends when the subscription expires or when a game leaves the catalog. DLC, route packs, expansions and premium editions are not automatically included merely because the base game is listed.
For current plan features and live availability, consult the official Xbox Game Pass page and the relevant regional store listing. Do not rely on the September 2024 rollout to determine what a plan includes in 2026.
Was this a good Game Pass wave?
The lineup covered three very different audiences. Age of Mythology: Retold offered the strongest strategy option and a major day-one release for PC and Xbox Series X|S players. Riders Republic provided the most immediately accessible multiplayer-focused experience. Train Sim World 5 targeted simulation enthusiasts with another day-one launch.
That variety made the subscription especially useful for players who wanted to sample several genres. Someone interested only in one game for long-term play, particularly with substantial DLC, should compare the current subscription cost with the individual purchase price and the cost of required add-ons.
