If Alienware Command Center (AWCC) will not launch, hangs on a loading screen, closes immediately, or shows “System still booting up, please try again after a couple of minutes,” do not reinstall it straight away. Restart Windows, check the Dell TechHub service, and repair Alienware Command Center Package Manager first. Those steps are safer and often resolve incomplete starts or failed updates.
The correct fix depends on your Alienware or Dell G-series model, Windows version, AWCC generation, and whether the app fails to open or opens without detecting hardware.

Before you start
- Restart Windows and connect a laptop to AC power.
- Save or note custom lighting, thermal, overclocking, macro, and other AWCC profiles if you can still access them.
- Identify your computer’s Service Tag or exact model.
- Do not delete AWCC folders, registry entries, or Dell services manually.
AWCC 5.x and AWCC 6.x do not have identical interfaces or compatibility boundaries. Older systems may require AWCC 5.x, while some systems originally supplied with AWCC 5.0 later received AWCC 6.x support. Dell’s current 6.x documentation lists version 6.13.8.0 with an April 2026 release date, but that is not automatically the right package for every computer. Check Dell’s model-specific documentation instead. Dell’s AWCC 6.x guide explains the current version and release context.

1. Restart, wait, and launch AWCC from Start
After a Windows, BIOS, driver, or AWCC update, background services may need several minutes to finish initializing. Restart Windows, sign in, wait a few minutes, and open AWCC from the Start menu rather than an old desktop shortcut.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultra-Portable: Slim, portable, and light weight allowing you to protect your investment wherever you go
- Ergonomic Comfort: Doubles as an ergonomic stand with two adjustable height settings
- Optimized for Laptop Carrying: The metal mesh provides your laptop with a stable laptop carrying surface
- Ultra-Quiet Fans: Three ultra-quiet fans create a noise-free environment for you
- Extra Usb Ports: Extra USB port and power switch design allows for connecting more USB devices. Warm Tips: The packaged cable is USB to USB connection. Type C connection devices need to prepare an Type C to USB adapter
If clicking the shortcut appears to do nothing, open Task Manager and check whether an AWCC process is already running. Do not repeatedly start new copies or begin deleting files while Windows is still completing an update.
2. Check the Dell TechHub service
The “System still booting up” message has a specific Dell-documented check: the Dell TechHub service may not have started. The service name or availability can vary by AWCC version and system configuration.
- Press the Windows key and search for Services.
- Open the Services desktop application.
- Find Dell TechHub.
- Check its status. If it is stopped, right-click it and choose Start.
- Try opening AWCC again.
- If it still hangs, restart Windows once more.
Do not change the service’s startup type unless Dell specifically instructs you to do so for your model. See Dell’s AWCC launch guidance for this symptom.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3. Repair AWCC Package Manager
Repair is the best next step when AWCC broke after an update, opens and closes, or is missing a feature package. It is less disruptive than uninstalling the application.

- Dual USB Hub: With a built-in dual USB hub, the laptop fan enables you to connect additional USB devices to your laptop, providing extra connectivity options for your peripherals. Warm tips: The packaged cable is a USB-to-USB connection. Type C connection devices require a Type C to USB adapter. Please plug the cooling pad's USB cable into a 5V 1A adapter for best performance; otherwise, the fans may fail to spin or run at very low speed.
- Whisper-Quiet Operation: Enjoy a noise-free and interference-free environment with super quiet fans, allowing you to focus on your work or entertainment without distractions.
- Enhanced Cooling Performance: The laptop cooling pad features 5 built-in fans (big fan: 4.72-inch, small fans: 2.76-inch), all with blue LEDs. 2 On/Off switches enable simultaneous control of all 5 fans and LEDs. Simply press the switch to select 1 fan working, 4 fans working, or all 5 working together.
- Ergonomic Design: The laptop cooling stand also serves as an ergonomic stand, offering 6 adjustable height settings that enable you to customize the angle for optimal comfort during gaming, movie watching, or working for extended periods. Ideal gift for both the back-to-school season and Father's Day.
- Secure and Universal Compatibility: Designed with 2 stoppers on the front surface, this laptop cooler prevents laptops from slipping and keeps 12-17 inch laptops—including Apple Macbook Pro Air, HP, Alienware, Dell, ASUS, and more—cool and secure during use.
- Open Windows Search.
- Search for Apps & features. On some Windows 11 builds, the page is called Installed apps.
- Find Alienware Command Center Package Manager.
- Select it and choose Modify.
- Select Repair.
- Choose the features to reinstall, then select Repair again.
- Choose Finish and restart if prompted.
The Package Manager controls the core AWCC application and related feature packages. Dell documents the process for both AWCC 6.x and AWCC 5.x.
4. Update Microsoft Store components
AWCC is not always a single self-contained executable. Depending on the version and system, Microsoft Store-delivered components may update separately or appear as an “Additional components required” prompt when AWCC launches.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select the profile icon.
- Open App settings.
- Make sure App updates are enabled.
- Check for updates.
- Launch AWCC and allow any additional-component installation to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Store updates can be blocked by Windows policy, account settings, network restrictions, or organizational management. If Microsoft Store access is disabled on a work or school computer, contact the administrator rather than bypassing the policy. Dell describes this update path in its Microsoft Store instructions.

5. Check BIOS, drivers, and security interference
If AWCC stopped working after a reset, major Windows update, hardware replacement, or BIOS change, compare your current BIOS with the latest BIOS listed for the exact system. Use the device-specific Dell Support page, keep the computer connected to AC power, and follow Dell’s model-specific instructions. Never interrupt a BIOS update.

Dell’s installation guidance also identifies security software and conflicting applications as possible installation obstacles. If you need to test this:
- Download the installer from Dell before pausing protection.
- Pause security protection only temporarily and only when it is safe and permitted.
- Close other hardware-control tools and installers.
- Re-enable protection immediately after the installation.
On a managed computer, do not disable security software yourself; ask the administrator or Dell Support for an approved procedure.
6. Reinstall the model-correct AWCC package
Use a clean reinstall when repair, TechHub, and Store updates do not help. Reinstallation can fix damaged or incomplete packages, but it may remove related components and custom settings. Do not assume profiles will survive.
Download the correct installer
- Go to Dell Support.
- Enter the Service Tag, model, or serial number.
- Open Drivers & downloads, then choose Find drivers.
- Select Windows 10 or Windows 11 as appropriate.
- Choose the Application category.
- Download the Alienware Command Center package listed for that system.
Do not use a random mirror or copy an installer intended for another Alienware model. Some packages are limited to particular systems or operating systems. Dell also documents the download process here.

Uninstall Package Manager
- Open Add or remove programs.
- Search for Alienware Command Center Package Manager.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Confirm the UAC prompt and the Package Manager removal.
- Restart the computer.
For AWCC 6.x, Dell says this removes AWCC and related packages, including the overclocking-control package where applicable. It can also affect lighting, thermal, macro, and other customizations. Follow Dell’s uninstall procedure.
Install it again
- Double-click the Dell package you downloaded.
- Choose Install.
- Continue through AWCC Package Manager.
- Accept the license agreement.
- Allow the core application and relevant feature packages to install.
- Finish the installer and restart Windows.
Depending on the system, AWCC 6.x may install the core application, Game Library, AlienFX, performance and overclocking controls, I/O peripheral support, or display-related packages. Available modules are model-dependent.

“Package DCS Error”
Dell describes this error as occurring when the installer tries to update files or services that cannot be modified while Windows is running. In the installer, you may either select OK to complete the installation or select Cancel, rerun the installer, and choose Add Packages from the maintenance page.
The exact screen can differ between releases. If the error returns, restart Windows, close other installers and hardware-management utilities, and run the model-correct Dell package again. See Dell’s Package DCS documentation.

AWCCSmartInstaller errors
Record the exact error text, AWCC generation, installer version, and your system model before trying more invasive fixes. Dell’s 6.x guide includes a separate AWCCSmartInstaller troubleshooting section. Repeated failures can indicate a damaged installation, blocked service, security interference, or a mismatched package.
When AWCC opens but hardware is missing
A launch failure and a device-detection failure require different diagnoses. If AWCC opens but lighting, thermal controls, overclocking, a keyboard, mouse, headset, or another peripheral is missing, check the following:
- Confirm that the computer or peripheral is supported by that AWCC version.
- Verify that you installed the package for the exact system or peripheral.
- Reconnect the device directly to the computer instead of through an unsupported hub or adapter.
- Try the connection mode recommended for the device, such as a supported wired connection.
- Repair AWCC and reinstall the relevant feature package.
- Check Dell for firmware and driver updates.
AWCC does not provide identical controls on every Alienware or Dell G-series system. A model may not support overclocking, particular thermal controls, or every lighting feature. Peripheral compatibility is also selective; consult Dell’s supported-peripheral information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →AWCC on non-Alienware computers
Some Alienware peripherals can use AWCC on non-Alienware and non-Dell G-series PCs, but the package and available features may be more limited than on a supported Alienware computer. Do not assume that a peripheral package supplies the same thermal, lighting, overclocking, or system-integration controls as the full AWCC installation on an Alienware laptop or desktop.
Use this escalation order
| Symptom | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Nothing happens | Restart, launch from Start, check Task Manager and Dell TechHub, then repair Package Manager. |
| “System still booting up” | Wait after sign-in, check Dell TechHub, start it if stopped, and restart. |
| AWCC broke after an update | Check Microsoft Store updates, allow additional components, then repair AWCC. |
| Controls or devices are missing | Verify compatibility, connection mode, firmware, drivers, and feature packages. |
| Reinstallation fails | Capture the exact error, retry the model-specific installer, use Add Packages for a Package DCS error, then contact Dell. |
When to contact Dell
Contact Dell Support if Dell TechHub is missing, Package Manager cannot be repaired or removed, the model-specific installer repeatedly fails, AWCC still cannot detect supported hardware after a clean reinstall, or a BIOS or firmware problem is suspected. Provide the Service Tag, Windows version, AWCC version if visible, exact error text, and the steps already attempted.
Avoid registry cleaners, unofficial “AWCC cleaner” tools, modified installers, random older executables, permanent antivirus disabling, and manual deletion of Dell services. These can remove shared components and make recovery harder.
