There are 46 Grubs to rescue in Hollow Knight. Break each real Grub’s jar with the Nail and it returns to the Grubfather; after defeating the Collector in the Tower of Love, you can use the Collector’s Map to mark unfreed Grubs on area maps you have purchased.
This guide groups the numbered locations by region and preserves the room directions and access requirements in the Hollow Knight Wiki’s Grub location table. A listed ability or encounter is an access requirement for that location, not necessarily the only possible route.

How to track down the remaining Grubs
You can search manually by region or use the Collector’s Map for a completion sweep. The map is obtained after defeating the Collector in the Tower of Love. It marks unfreed Grubs on purchased area maps, so it is useful for narrowing down a search but does not replace having those maps.

If a marker seems to be missing, first check that you have purchased that area’s map. One player reported finding their last Grub after buying the Fog Canyon map, so this is a useful troubleshooting check rather than a guarantee that every missing marker has the same cause.

Ability gates and encounters
Grub routes span early and late areas, and several entries have progression gates. The location table lists requirements including Mothwing Cloak, Mantis Claw, Desolate Dive, Crystal Heart, Monarch Wings, and Isma’s Tear. It also notes locations where a named guardian or the Collector must be defeated. Check the requirement alongside a location before making a detour; a guard is an encounter to overcome, not an ability requirement.
Check suspicious jars for Grub Mimics
Some jars contain Grub Mimics rather than rescuable Grubs. Use the Dream Nail on a suspicious jar’s occupant: real Grubs say “…Home…”; Mimics say “…Kill…”, “…Empty…” or “…Other…”.
