AMD expanded its FSR 4 game roster by 28 titles in June 2025 through an updated FSR Technical Preview driver. The additions highlighted at the time included ARK: Survival Ascended, F1 25, Silent Hill 2, and Star Wars Outlaws. However, this was a historical compatibility expansion—not the current size of AMD’s FSR ecosystem—and the newly supported games were not necessarily receiving native developer integrations.
AMD’s terminology and compatibility guidance have since changed. Its current documentation refers to the former FSR 4 upscaler as FSR Upscaling within the broader FSR “Redstone” family, and lists ML-based FSR Upscaling for Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series graphics cards. AMD now says its supported-game ecosystem contains more than 300 titles.

What AMD added in June 2025
The June 2025 announcement concerned two separate Radeon software releases: a regular Radeon driver and an updated FSR Technical Preview driver. The Technical Preview expanded the list of games that could use FSR 4, with AMD and contemporary reporting putting the increase at 28 titles.

The most prominent additions named in the available report were:
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
- ARK: Survival Ascended
- F1 25
- Silent Hill 2
- Star Wars Outlaws
The accessible report does not provide a complete, independently verifiable list of all 28 games. It is therefore safer not to reconstruct the full roster from later third-party lists, because the supported catalog and implementation methods can change over time. The 28-title figure should be understood as the size of that specific June 2025 expansion, not as a current total.
The announcement was reported on June 9, 2025, with an AMD Community version appearing on June 10. See the AMD Community report and the contemporary ExtremeTech report syndicated by Yahoo.
Which games already worked with the regular driver?
The report distinguished the new Technical Preview compatibility from games already supported through AMD’s standard Radeon driver. Examples listed as available through the regular driver included:
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- God of War Ragnarök
- Marvel Rivals
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
This distinction matters. A game being associated with FSR 4 in a support list did not necessarily mean every Radeon user needed the preview package, and the preview driver was not described as a separate performance tier. Its main purpose was to expand compatibility.
Did players need the FSR Technical Preview driver?
For the newly added games covered by the June 2025 report, generally yes. The expanded compatibility was delivered through the updated FSR Technical Preview driver. Players using games that were already supported by the standard driver did not need the preview package solely to access those existing integrations.
A Technical Preview driver can also involve a stability trade-off. Users who depend on a reliable system for competitive games, streaming, or everyday work may reasonably prefer the current recommended Radeon driver unless they specifically need preview-only compatibility.
Which Radeon graphics cards could use FSR 4?
In the 2025 announcement, the practical target was Radeon RX 9000 Series hardware. That was a narrower requirement than earlier FSR versions, which were designed to work across a much broader range of GPUs.

- FSR “Redstone” upscaling: AMD lists RX 9000 Series and newer hardware.
- AMD FSR Upscaling: AMD currently lists Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series graphics cards.
- FSR 3 upscaling: Support is broader and includes older Radeon hardware, depending on the game.
- FSR 2 and FSR 1: These versions have broader compatibility still.
These categories should not be treated as interchangeable. FSR upscaling, frame generation, and newer ML-based features can have different hardware requirements. An older Radeon card supporting FSR 2 or FSR 3 does not automatically support the current ML-based FSR Upscaling technology.
Check AMD’s current FSR Technologies page for the latest hardware and game requirements before buying a graphics card or installing software.
What made FSR 4 different from earlier FSR versions?
FSR 4 represented AMD’s move toward machine-learning-assisted image reconstruction. Rather than treating it as simply another name for FSR 3, it is better understood as a newer reconstruction approach intended to create a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAMD currently describes FSR Upscaling as an ML-accelerated algorithm and positions it as an improvement over FSR 3.1. That is AMD’s own product positioning; the available research does not establish a universal image-quality or performance advantage over NVIDIA DLSS or Intel XeSS. Results can vary substantially by game, resolution, preset, motion, ray-tracing settings, and implementation quality.
It is also important to separate upscaling from frame generation. Upscaling renders the game internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output. Frame generation creates additional frames between traditionally rendered frames. A game may support one feature without supporting the other, and frame generation does not remove the need for a reasonable base frame rate.
Was the support native or driver-mediated?
The June 2025 expansion should be described primarily as a driver-mediated compatibility expansion, not as proof that all 28 games received native FSR 4 support from their developers.
AMD’s current documentation describes two ways games can support ML-based FSR:
- Native integration: The game developer includes the technology and exposes it through the game’s own graphics menu.
- Driver or software-assisted support: AMD’s software can swap relevant DLL files in games using FSR 3.1 or later, where supported.
The exact implementation can differ by title. A game on an AMD support list is not automatically guaranteed to have native integration, identical menu options, availability in every game mode, or the same image quality as another title.

AMD also notes that some games may continue to display an older “AMD FSR 4” label even though the company’s current product terminology uses FSR Upscaling. Menu wording alone is therefore not a reliable indication that a game is using a different technology version.
How to try FSR support
Historical Technical Preview process
When the June 2025 expansion was available through the preview package, the general process was:
- Open AMD’s Drivers and Support page.
- Select the Radeon graphics card model.
- Choose the relevant Radeon Software package.
- Look for the AMD FSR Technical Preview option, if it was offered for that hardware and software version.
- Install the package and restart if prompted.
- Launch a supported game and check its graphics or video settings for an FSR option.
Because that preview was tied to a specific 2025 driver branch, it should not be assumed that the same package remains the correct way to enable FSR today.

Current AMD Software process
AMD’s current activation guidance is different:
- Close the game.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to Gaming.
- Open the Graphics sub-tab.
- Enable AMD FSR Upscaling and, where supported, AMD FSR Frame Generation.
- Launch the game and select the applicable FSR option in the game’s graphics menu.
Labels and available controls vary by game and Radeon Software version. If the option is missing, the title may need a game update, may require a different driver path, or may not support the feature on the installed GPU.
What the 28-game expansion meant for Radeon users
The expansion was meaningful because it increased the number of games in which Radeon owners could try AMD’s newer reconstruction technology. It also showed AMD using software distribution to broaden access while developer integrations were still developing.
That is useful ecosystem progress, but the raw number of supported titles is only one measure of adoption. Native integration, reliable updates, consistent image quality, support across game modes, and sensible performance scaling matter just as much. A driver-assisted compatibility list can be valuable, but it should not be treated as equivalent to a developer-built implementation in every case.
The broader market context was competition with NVIDIA DLSS and Intel XeSS. FSR 4 gave Radeon users another modern reconstruction option, but the June 2025 announcement did not establish that it universally outperformed those alternatives. Game-by-game testing remains necessary for claims about visual quality, latency, artifacts, or frame-rate gains.
Common problems and fixes
No FSR option appears
Confirm that the game is updated, the Radeon GPU meets the feature requirement, and the title is actually supported by the installed driver or AMD Software version. Also check whether the option is exposed only after enabling the AMD Software toggle or restarting the game.

The menu still says FSR 3.1 or FSR 4
This may be normal. AMD says some games can retain older labels while the company’s current documentation uses the name FSR Upscaling. The label does not by itself prove that the feature is unavailable.
Performance does not improve
Upscaling helps most when the GPU is the limiting component. It may produce little benefit in a CPU-limited game, during shader-compilation stutter, or when the selected quality mode renders at a relatively high internal resolution. Check GPU utilization, CPU utilization, frame pacing, and the game’s internal resolution before judging the result.
Artifacts or unstable motion appear
Try another quality preset, update the game, and test upscaling with frame generation disabled. Compare the result with native resolution or another available upscaler. Fine detail, foliage, particles, transparencies, and fast camera movement can expose differences between implementations.
The Technical Preview driver causes instability
Return to the current recommended Radeon driver using AMD’s Drivers and Support page. Preview software is optional; installing it is not necessary for games already supported by the standard driver.
An older Radeon card is not eligible
Earlier FSR compatibility does not guarantee access to ML-based FSR Upscaling. Check the exact feature and GPU requirement rather than relying on the presence of “FSR” in a game’s settings.
Where FSR stands now
The June 2025 announcement is best understood as a milestone in AMD’s transition toward ML-based reconstruction. AMD’s current branding places that technology under FSR Upscaling and the wider FSR “Redstone” suite, while its current page lists more than 300 supported games.
That current catalog is much larger and different from the 28-title expansion reported in 2025. Readers should use AMD’s current support information and current Radeon Software rather than treating the old announcement as a live compatibility list.

First check the exact game, the exact FSR feature, and the GPU requirement. Readers who only need broad FSR 2 or FSR 3 compatibility may not need a new graphics card at all, while users specifically interested in newer ML-based features should verify that their hardware is supported.
