The reports do not state the increase in dollars or percentage, identify uniform terms for every partner, or confirm a higher retail price for any Radeon model. They trace back to an industry-forum post relayed by several publications, and AMD has not publicly confirmed this specific adjustment.
What the October report actually says
The claim concerns GDDR6 supplied to companies that build and sell Radeon add-in boards (AIBs). Those partners receive the GPU and memory, then add the circuit board, power-delivery hardware, cooler, firmware, packaging and distribution services. The reported effective date is October 1, 2026.

That is all the October reporting establishes with confidence about the price change itself. No cited report gives a per-chip, per-gigabyte or percentage increase. It also does not say that every board partner received the same price, that every memory configuration changed, or that a contract adjustment applies in every region.
Evidence and attribution
Digital Citizen reported the October change, while NeoTeo described a chain running through Fanáticos del Hardware and Wccftech to Board Channels. These are secondary accounts of an industry-forum post, not an AMD announcement. AMD’s second-quarter 2026 investor materials discuss memory-supply risk and reliance on third parties in general, but do not confirm this particular GDDR6 price move.

Does this mean Radeon cards will cost more?
Not automatically, and there is no confirmed fixed increase for shoppers. A higher component price can be absorbed by a partner, shared among the GPU maker, board maker, distributor and retailer, or passed through when existing inventory is replaced. Contract timing, stock already in warehouses, exchange rates, regional distribution and each company’s margin decisions all affect the result.
Consequently, the October reports do not support saying that every Radeon card will become more expensive immediately, or that a particular US retail price has already risen. A retailer’s current price and availability remain the only useful consumer-level checks for an individual model.

Which Radeon products are most exposed?
One report identifies the Radeon RX 9000 family as the current lineup most relevant to the claim. That identifies a product generation, not a confirmed increase for any RX 9000 SKU. Older Radeon cards can also be affected when partners replenish memory or renegotiate supply, but the cited reports provide no model-by-model schedule.

Keep the separate July report separate
Around July 2026, TrendForce summarized secondary reports from MyDrivers, Board Channels, TechPowerUp and VideoCardz alleging that AMD would raise prices for GPU-core and GDDR-memory bundle kits by around 10%. That was a different claim: it covered a bundled GPU-and-memory supply package and had a July effective date. Its 10% figure must not be applied to the October GDDR6-only report.
The same TrendForce item relayed a MyDrivers estimate that consumer-grade GDDR6 spot prices had climbed from about $2.50 per GB to about $7.50 per GB. Those are reported spot-market levels, not AMD’s partner price and not a retail graphics-card increase. Spot prices can move independently of negotiated manufacturer contracts.

Why the broader memory market still matters
Other indicators point to cost and availability pressure, even though they do not verify AMD’s October decision.
- PC Partner’s first-half FY2026 statement said: “In addition, graphics memory costs are expected to rise further, leading to a substantial increase in VGA Card* costs in the second half of FY2026.” The company gave no numeric forecast in the cited passage.
- PC Partner also warned: “The quantity of VGA Card shipments declined substantially in the first half of FY2026 as compared with the second half of FY2025, and availability of VGA Cards is likely to decline further in the second half of FY2026.”
- Jon Peddie, head of Jon Peddie Research, said AIB shipments rose from 9.25 million units in the first quarter of 2025 to 11.82 million in the first quarter of 2026, a 28% increase in units.
- Jon Peddie also reported AIB sales of $6.18 billion in Q1 2025 and $10.85 billion in Q1 2026, a 76% increase, saying higher memory costs helped drive the dollar rise.
Those figures describe market-wide conditions and observed sales, not a confirmed AMD surcharge. They do, however, explain why partners and retailers may be more sensitive to memory costs during the second half of FY2026.
What buyers should do now
- Check the exact model. Compare the current price, stock status, VRAM capacity and warranty for the card you actually want; do not infer a change from a headline about the whole Radeon range.
- Record the date and seller. Prices vary by country, retailer and inventory age. A dated price check makes it possible to distinguish a supply change from a normal promotion ending.
- Compare total platform value. Include performance at your target resolution, power requirements, cooler design and availability. The October reports contain no test data that establishes a value winner among cards.
- Do not rush solely on the rumor. No amount, universal partner pass-through or model-specific retail increase has been confirmed. Buy when the card meets your requirements and the price is acceptable, while recognizing that availability could tighten.
What remains unconfirmed
| Question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Did AMD change a partner price? | Reports say AMD raised GDDR6 supply prices effective October 1, 2026; AMD has not confirmed the specific claim. |
| How large was the increase? | Not stated in the October reports. |
| Will every Radeon card cost more? | No. No source confirms a uniform or immediate retail increase. |
| Is the July 10% figure the October increase? | No. July concerned reported GPU-core and GDDR bundle-kit pricing, a separate change. |
| Which exact RX 9000 model is affected? | Not established; RX 9000 is mentioned only as the most relevant current lineup. |
The Bottom Line
The October 1 GDDR6 price increase is a credible industry report but not an AMD-confirmed figure, and it does not yet prove that any specific Radeon card has become more expensive. Watch model-level retail prices and stock rather than treating the headline as a guaranteed surcharge.
