The Analogue 3D is a modern HDMI console designed to play original Nintendo 64 cartridges, with 4K output and CRT-inspired display modes. It may suit N64 owners who want to use their cartridge collection on a modern TV, but its appeal depends on the games and controllers you already own, your display and capture setup, and whether Analogue’s compatibility claims meet your expectations. Analogue’s official US store listed the black console at $269.99 with “Ships now” on October 7, 2026; price and stock can change.
What the Analogue 3D is—and who it is for
Analogue describes the 3D as an FPGA-based reimagining of the Nintendo 64. It has a slot for original N64 cartridges, four original-style controller ports, HDMI output, Bluetooth, USB-A ports, and an original-style accessory interface. Analogue says it is not software emulation, does not play copyrighted ROM files, and does not support openFPGA. In practical terms, this is a cartridge-focused console, not a general-purpose ROM device.

Analogue claims full compatibility with the original N64 library and region-free support. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified findings in this review. The company also says that around 70% of the game library supports multiplayer; it does not explain the methodology or denominator in the cited product-page passage, so treat that as Analogue’s estimate rather than an independently established statistic. Analogue’s product page lists the hardware and feature claims.

Best fit
- You own original N64 cartridges and want to play them through HDMI on a modern television.
- You want original-style controller ports, or are willing to buy a compatible wireless controller separately.
- You value Analogue’s listed 4K output and CRT- and professional-monitor-inspired display options.
Less suitable
- You want to play ROM files or use openFPGA.
- Your preferred setup depends on a CRT or Analogue DAC connection.
- You need independent comparative evidence about compatibility, responsiveness, or image quality before buying. The available official specifications and guidance do not provide controlled comparisons.
Price, availability, and what comes in the box
On October 7, 2026, the official US store listed the black Analogue 3D at $269.99 and marked it “Ships now.” This is a dated US listing, not a guarantee of current price, stock, or shipping terms. Check the official store for the latest listing.
#1 Best Overall
- Included in the box:
- Analogue 3D Console
- 16GB SD card (pre-installed)
- HDMI Cable
- USB Cable
The box contents listed by Analogue are:
- Analogue 3D console
- Preinstalled 16GB SD card
- HDMI cable
- USB cable
- Worldwide USB-C power supply
The 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller is not included. Analogue listed it separately at $39.99; that price is also time-sensitive. You can instead use compatible original N64 controllers with the console’s four original-style ports. Analogue’s December 2025 restock notice said regular editions were not limited editions and would be restocked as quickly as possible, but the current store listing is the more useful guide to availability.
How it connects to a modern display
Analogue lists HDMI output at 4K and 1080p, NTSC and PAL support, variable refresh rate, and “Original Display Modes” modeled on CRTs and professional monitors. The display modes require a 4K-capable display. Analogue says capture cards cannot be used while those modes are enabled; it lists capture as available at 4K without Original Display Modes.
Rank #2
- 4K RESOLUTION: Experience N64 games in stunning 4K resolution, providing 10x the clarity of the original Nintendo 64 console for incredibly detailed visuals.
- COMPLETE COMPATIBILITY: Play every original N64 game ever made with 100% compatibility, regardless of region, on this next-generation gaming system.
- ADVANCED CONNECTIVITY: Features Bluetooth LE, dualband WiFi, and four original-style controller ports for authentic multiplayer gaming experiences.
- PREMIUM DESIGN: The limited edition Watermelon Funtastic model comes with a 16GB pre-installed SD card, HDMI cable, USB cable, and worldwide power supply.
- FPGA TECHNOLOGY: Engineered entirely with FPGA hardware featuring the innovative 3D OS, delivering authentic gameplay without emulation.
The console is intended for HDMI televisions. Analogue says it is not compatible with CRTs or the Analogue DAC, so do not assume it can be connected to a CRT-based setup. If capturing gameplay is important, the choice is between using Original Display Modes without a capture card or capturing at 4K with those modes turned off, according to Analogue’s stated limitations.
Cartridges, controllers, and setup costs
Original cartridges are central to the Analogue 3D’s design. The console is not described as a way to load copyrighted ROM files, so buyers without a collection should account for finding and acquiring the games they want. The sources available for this review do not establish current prices or availability for individual N64 titles.

- Authentic 4K N64 Gaming: Experience your library in stunning 4K resolution with zero lag, variable refresh rate (VRR), and specialized display modes that perfectly mimic original CRT and PVM monitors. Hardware Compatibility: Features a region-free original-style cartridge slot and four classic controller ports to support your original N64 games, accessories, and peripherals. High-Fidelity Audio & Power: Delivers 48KHz 16-bit PCM audio and includes a worldwide 30W GaN USB-C power supply for efficient, reliable performance.
Controller choice is more flexible: the listed hardware supports original controllers and accessories through four original-style ports, and the 8BitDo 64 Bluetooth Controller is a separate compatible option. Compare the total cost of the console, controllers, and the specific cartridges you need rather than treating the console price as the complete cost of getting started.

Firmware 1.5.1
Analogue’s firmware page lists 3D OS version 1.5.1, dated September 23, 2026. Its release notes say the update made overclocking and Force Original Hardware adjustable in-game, improved horizontal upscaling and progressive-output performance, added library customization for unknown cartridges, and enabled creating a Memory from the in-game menu. These describe changes Analogue reports; the release notes do not independently establish how much they improve play. See the firmware page for the version and notes.

When a cartridge will not start or has corrupted audio or video
Analogue’s troubleshooting guide recommends checking and cleaning cartridge pins for certain startup or corrupted audio/video problems, then resetting the game. Its cartridge-cleaner instructions say to brush the pins from side to side 5–10 times, or as needed. Cleaning is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that every cartridge fault will be resolved. The official troubleshooting guide has the company’s instructions.

What to weigh before buying
Whether the 3D is “worth the money and the wait” depends on what you want from an N64 setup. This evidence establishes Analogue’s feature list and guidance, but not a measured performance winner against an original N64 with modern video hardware or software-based alternatives. Compare the systems on the points that affect your use:
- Media and accessories: Does the option play your original cartridges and support the controllers or accessories you plan to use?
- Image and display: What output resolutions and CRT-style options are available, and do they work with your TV?
- Capture: Can you record gameplay with the display features you want enabled?
- Evidence: Are compatibility and responsiveness claims backed by independent testing, or are they manufacturer statements?
- Setup and support: What connections, firmware updates, and troubleshooting steps does the system require?
- Total cost: Include the console, any extra controller, and the cartridges you still need.
If original cartridges and HDMI use are the priorities, the Analogue 3D’s listed design is directly relevant. If you need ROM support, CRT compatibility, or independent comparative test results, the stated feature set and evidence do not establish that it is the right choice.
