angelina.dll is the plugin file used by Big Tick Angelina, an older Windows vocal and formant synthesizer. If angelina.dll is missing or was not found, the problem usually belongs to Angelina or the VST host loading it, not to Windows itself.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing Windows files, identify:
- Which program shows the message: a DAW, VST scanner, Angelina’s standalone executable, or another application.
- When it appears: while starting the DAW, scanning plugins, opening an old project, or launching Angelina directly.
- Whether the host is 32-bit or 64-bit: Big Tick identifies Angelina as a PC 32-bit plugin.
- Whether the file still exists: search for
angelina.dllin your old VST folders. - Whether antivirus software removed it: check Windows Security’s protection history.
Common messages include “angelina.dll was not found,” “The program can’t start because angelina.dll is missing,” and “Error loading angelina.dll.” These descriptions can also refer to a missing dependency, an incompatible plugin, or a failed VST scan.

angelina.dll is not a Windows component, Microsoft runtime, DirectX file, or general-purpose system DLL. It belongs to Angelina, a discontinued virtual instrument from Big Tick.

Angelina was distributed as a Windows VST instrument and as a standalone synthesizer. It produces vocal, formant, breathy, and pad-like sounds. Big Tick currently classifies Angelina among its discontinued PC 32-bit plugins.

That distinction determines the repair. You should normally restore the original Angelina package to the VST folder used by your host. Copying the file to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is not the correct general fix.
Fix 1: Reinstall Angelina from Big Tick
This is the safest and most likely solution when the plugin was previously installed or an old project still expects it.
Find the official package
- Search for Big Tick’s official Discontinued Plugins page.
- Find the Angelina entry.
- Use the download supplied by Big Tick, if it is still available.
- If the official page refers to an older freeware Angelina package, verify that the download comes from Big Tick before using it.
- Do not substitute a DLL copied from a random download archive.
The product is discontinued, so the download may not be available in every situation. A product listing or an old installer is not proof that every historical package remains supported by current versions of Windows.
Install it into the correct VST folder
During installation, choose the VST folder that your DAW actually scans. Older plugins were often installed into a custom directory, including folders such as:
C:Program FilesVstPluginsC:Program FilesSteinbergVstPlugins- A custom folder selected when the DAW or plugin was originally installed
Do not assume that a folder containing other modern plugins is automatically the correct location.
If you already have a trusted Angelina installer or archive:
- Close the DAW and any standalone Angelina process.
- Run the installer, if there is one.
- Choose the 32-bit VST plugin location used by your host.
- Complete the installation.
- Open the DAW.
- Start a manual plugin rescan.
- Search the plugin list for Angelina under instruments, VST, or Big Tick.
If the package contains the DLL but no installer, copy it only to the intended VST directory. Do not copy it into a Windows system folder.
Confirm that the repair worked
The repair is successful when:
- The DAW completes its scan without reporting
angelina.dll. - Angelina appears in the instrument list.
- An existing project opens without a missing-plugin warning.
- The standalone Angelina program starts, if that is the application showing the error.
If the DAW still reports that the file is missing, continue with the VST path check rather than copying the DLL elsewhere.
Fix 2: Add the folder containing angelina.dll to the DAW
A file can be present and still appear missing when the host is scanning a different directory.
Locate the file
- Press Windows + E.
- Select This PC.
- In the search box, enter
angelina.dll. - Wait for the search to finish.
- Note the complete folder path containing the file.
- Check whether there is more than one copy.
If Windows finds several copies, do not assume they are interchangeable. Old VST folders may contain incomplete or mismatched copies. Prefer the copy restored from the original Big Tick package.

Add the folder in the host
The exact labels differ by DAW, but the control is usually under one of these areas:
- Preferences
- Settings
- Plugin Manager
- VST Plug-in Paths
- Plugin Locations
- VST2 Search Paths
Add the folder that directly contains angelina.dll, save the setting, and choose Rescan, Rescan Plugins, or Clear Cache and Rescan.
If the host has a plugin blacklist:
- Open its plugin manager.
- Search for Angelina or Big Tick.
- Remove the failed entry from the blacklist, if the host permits it.
- Rescan the correct folder.
- Restart the DAW.
A cache can preserve an earlier failed scan even after the file has been restored. If the host documents a separate cache-reset procedure, use that procedure rather than deleting unrelated files.
Fix 3: Resolve the 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch
Big Tick identifies Angelina as PC 32-bit. A 64-bit Windows installation can run some 32-bit software, but a 64-bit DAW may not load a legacy 32-bit VST directly.
Check the host architecture
Look in the DAW’s About window, installer details, or documentation for whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit. Do not infer the host architecture from Windows alone.

Then use the appropriate path:
- A 32-bit DAW can generally load a 32-bit Angelina plugin if the VST folder is correct.
- A 64-bit DAW may need a reputable legacy VST bridge.
- A host with no 32-bit support may not be able to use Angelina at all.
A 32-bit plugin does not become compatible by placing it in System32 or SysWOW64. Those are Windows loader directories, not general VST installation locations.
If bridging fails, try loading Angelina in a compatible 32-bit host. If the instrument is no longer essential, replacing it with a supported modern instrument is safer than repeatedly forcing an obsolete plugin into an incompatible host.
Recognize an architecture error
Messages such as these usually point to compatibility or file integrity rather than a simple missing file:
- “This application was unable to start correctly.”
- “The application or DLL is not designed to run on Windows.”
- “Bad Image.”
- The DAW finds Angelina but crashes or rejects it during scanning.
Remove the affected plugin copy and reinstall the complete trusted Angelina package. Do not replace it with another file that merely has the same filename.

Old plugins can be removed or blocked by security software, particularly when they are unsigned or come from an archive.

Check Windows Security
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
angelina.dllor the Angelina installer. - Review the detected file path and action.
Restore the file only if it came from Big Tick’s official package or a trusted original installation archive that you control. Then rescan it and perform a full security scan.
Do not disable antivirus protection globally to make an old plugin load. If the file is detected again, leave it quarantined until you can verify the package and determine why it was flagged.
If the file was quarantined from a legitimate original installation, reinstall the complete package instead of restoring only the DLL. This reduces the chance that other required plugin files are missing.
Fix 5: Remove duplicate or stale copies
Multiple copies can cause a DAW to load the wrong one.
- Search This PC for
angelina.dll. - Record every containing folder.
- Identify which folder the DAW scans.
- Keep the trusted copy in the intended VST directory.
- Move obsolete copies out of scanned folders, or rename them only if you understand the effect on old projects.
- Rescan the DAW.
Do not delete a copy blindly if an old project depends on that exact path. If you are no longer using Angelina, removing the stale plugin entry and excluding its folder from the scan path is usually cleaner.
Fix 6: Check for a missing dependency
“ The specified module could not be found” can mean that angelina.dll exists but one of its supporting files does not. The named DLL is not always the missing component.
Check whether:
- The original Angelina package contains additional files beside the DLL.
- Antivirus removed another file from the same installation.
- The host reports a dependency or architecture failure during its scan.
- The standalone executable and the VST version fail in the same way.
Reinstall the complete Angelina package rather than downloading individual supporting DLLs. No verified source establishes that Angelina requires a particular Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX package, or .NET version, so do not install random runtimes based only on the filename.

Because angelina.dll is a third-party Big Tick file, Windows repair commands will not normally restore it. They are appropriate when other Windows programs also show corruption, protected-system-file errors, or unexplained startup failures.
Microsoft recommends running Deployment Image Servicing and Management before System File Checker.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Try the DAW again.

These commands repair Windows components and protected system files. They do not normally recreate a deleted Big Tick plugin. If they report that no integrity violations were found, return to the Angelina reinstall and VST path steps.

Fix 8: Do not register angelina.dll with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for self-registering COM, OLE, and ActiveX DLLs. Angelina is a VST plugin loaded by a host from its plugin directory, and there is no evidence that angelina.dll is a COM server.
Do not use:
regsvr32 angelina.dll
For this file, that command is likely to produce an error such as DllRegisterServer was not found. That result does not repair the plugin and does not prove that Windows is damaged.

Angelina is not a hardware driver and is not a Windows optional feature.
Opening Device Manager will not restore angelina.dll. Similarly, enabling or disabling items in Turn Windows features on or off is not a normal repair for this plugin. Use those areas only when the same computer has a separate hardware or Windows-feature problem.
If your DAW also has a wider audio-device problem:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Check for warning icons.
- Update or reinstall the affected audio device through its hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the DAW again.
Updating an audio driver may resolve a separate audio-device failure, but it will not replace angelina.dll. - Verify that any recovered installer or archive came from a trusted source.
- Scan it before opening or extracting it.
- Install it into the correct 32-bit VST location.
- Use a compatible host or bridge.
- Keep a backup of the working installer and plugin folder.
Do not download angelina.dll by itself from a random DLL website. A standalone file can contain malware, be the wrong architecture, be damaged, or be incompatible with the rest of Angelina. It may also leave the actual missing dependency or incorrect VST path unresolved.
If the plugin is no longer needed, remove Angelina from the DAW’s plugin path or blacklist the failed entry. This prevents repeated scan errors and avoids keeping obsolete software active.
