Angstrom Levy is a setup-heavy space controller, not merely a character who throws projectiles from a distance. The developer describes him as a zoning-focused fighter whose portals work for offense, defense and mobility, while orb interactions create additional pressure and trap possibilities. That makes his matchups different from a conventional projectile zoner: opponents must manage access, portal placement and changing positions rather than only blocking shots. Because official material does not publish a complete zoner roster, frame data, command lists or matchup statistics, the comparisons below explain the meaningful playstyle differences without inventing character-specific counters or win rates.
What kind of zoner is Angstrom Levy?
Mike Willette, executive producer of Invincible VS, calls Angstrom “a zoning-focused fighter with a strong emphasis on setups and strategy.” That wording matters. It identifies his core as planned control of space rather than a confirmed projectile-only game plan.

His defining tools are portals and orbs. The official character description says portals can be used offensively, defensively and for mobility, and that careful placement can create traps. It also says portals and orbs have unique interactions that provide more ways to manipulate the fight, pressure an opponent and experiment with setups. In practical terms, Angstrom’s threat is the arrangement of these tools and the routes they make possible, not a single attack that is always best.

How Angstrom differs from a conventional projectile zoner
“Zoner” describes a broad strategic goal: make particular areas difficult to enter and punish an opponent for taking the wrong route. It does not describe one universal moveset. A conventional projectile zoner usually asks the opponent to navigate repeated attacks along a line or series of lanes. Angstrom’s documented tools suggest a different problem: the opponent must account for portals that change access and positioning, plus orbs that can interact with those portals.
| Comparison axis | Angstrom Levy | Conventional projectile-style zoning |
|---|---|---|
| Primary space-control idea | Portals reshape where pressure, escape routes and approaches can occur; orbs add interaction-based threats. | Repeated projectiles or long-range attacks make specific lanes or distances unsafe. |
| Setup dependence | High by design: portal placement and portal-orb interactions are central to the character’s identity. | Often lower if the character can apply a basic projectile pattern without preparing a separate object, although the actual requirement varies by character. |
| Defense and movement | Portals are explicitly described as defensive and mobility tools as well as offensive tools. | Defense commonly comes from distance, blocking, retreating or covering an approach with attacks; the exact options depend on the character. |
| Opponent’s main question | “Which route is safe after the portals and orbs are positioned?” | “When can I advance through or around the next attack?” |
| Best way to learn the matchup | Recreate portal placements, orb interactions, approach routes and assist timings in Training Mode. | Record the character’s ranged patterns and test jumps, blocks, movement and punish attempts in Training Mode. |
This is a strategic comparison, not a claim that every other zoner in the roster works the same way. The consulted official material does not enumerate which characters qualify as zoners, so a named character-by-character tier list would go beyond the available evidence.
Why portal placement changes the neutral game
Portals create decisions instead of a single firing lane
With a basic projectile pattern, the defender can often focus on the next attack and the distance it covers. Angstrom’s portal concept adds a location problem. A portal placed in one area may make an approach, retreat or attack sequence possible from an unexpected angle. The opponent has to watch the battlefield and the portal arrangement, not only Angstrom’s current position.
That does not mean every portal automatically wins neutral. A placement still has to be useful, safe enough to establish and connected to a follow-up that Angstrom can execute. The developer’s description supports the existence of these offensive, defensive and mobility uses; it does not establish the speed or reliability of any particular setup.
Traps are about preparation and recognition
The official description specifically notes that carefully placed portals can become traps. A trap, in this context, is a position in which the opponent’s natural escape or approach path intersects a prepared threat. The value is often delayed: Angstrom may spend a moment arranging the field before asking the opponent to choose.

For the defender, the important habit is to identify what a portal placement covers and what it leaves open. Do not assume that standing still is safe simply because no projectile is currently on screen. Conversely, do not panic every time a portal appears; test whether the placement actually covers your available movement and whether Angstrom can convert it into pressure.
Mobility makes corner and escape assumptions less reliable
Because portals are described as mobility tools, Angstrom should not be evaluated only by how far he can attack from a fixed position. A portal may change the distance at which an exchange begins or give him a different defensive route. This can make a conventional “push him to the corner and keep him there” plan less straightforward, but the degree of that advantage must be confirmed in Training Mode rather than inferred as guaranteed invulnerability or teleport speed.
What the orb interactions add
Orbs are a distinct part of Angstrom’s toolkit, not just a visual extension of his portals. The developer says that portals and orbs have unique interactions that create more ways to manipulate the fight, pressure the opponent and experiment with setups. That statement establishes a relationship between the two systems, but it does not provide a complete command list or specify every possible interaction.
Pressure can be layered
A portal may define where movement is possible while an orb adds a second timing or location question. The opponent may need to decide whether to challenge Angstrom, move away from the orb, protect against a portal-assisted sequence or wait for the setup to expire. This is the principal difference from a zoner whose threat is concentrated in one repeatable projectile pattern.
Setups reward deliberate sequencing
Angstrom’s strongest situations are likely to come from choosing an order: establish a portal, place or command an orb, then use the resulting arrangement to pressure or reposition. “Likely” is important here. The official source presents experimentation with setups as a design goal, but does not certify a particular sequence as optimal, guaranteed or safe on block.

Defenders should separate the objects’ roles
When practicing against Angstrom, identify what the portal does by itself, what the orb does by itself and what changes when both are present. This prevents a common mistake: treating every visual effect as one undifferentiated attack and missing the actual decision point. Record each situation separately and note whether movement, blocking, jumping or an assist changes the outcome.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAngstrom in a 3v3 tag-fighter team
Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighting game. That format changes how zoning should be judged. Angstrom is not controlling space in isolation; teammate assists, swaps and team-level resource decisions can influence whether a portal setup is worth attempting.
Assists can protect setup time
An assist may discourage an immediate approach while Angstrom establishes a portal or orb interaction. The correct timing depends on the assist and the situation, and the consulted sources do not provide frame data or a universal assist recommendation. Test whether the assist covers the route an opponent actually uses rather than calling it automatically.
Tags change the cost of a failed setup
If Angstrom is hit while preparing a position, the team may lose momentum and a character on point. A tag can also let a teammate take advantage of a portal arrangement that Angstrom created. Evaluate setups by their team value: how much space they create, whether an assist can extend the threat and what happens if the opponent challenges before the arrangement is complete.
Team strategy can compensate for approach risks
A partner who benefits from an opponent being held at a particular distance may fit Angstrom’s space-control plan, while a partner who needs uninterrupted close-range pressure may prefer a different sequence. This is a strategic lens, not a roster compatibility ranking; no official source cited here establishes the best team or a required partner.

How to think about matchups against other zoners
Without verified tools for every roster member, the useful comparison is by function rather than by unsupported character labels. Ask the following questions for any opponent who appears to play at long range.
Who controls the approach first?
Compare whether Angstrom’s portals can alter the route around the opponent’s long-range attack, or whether the opponent’s attack covers the space Angstrom needs to establish a portal. The answer may change by screen position and portal placement. Record both characters’ preferred starting distances rather than assuming that “zoner versus zoner” means a slow projectile mirror.
Who needs more preparation?
Angstrom’s documented identity is setup-heavy. If the opponent can threaten him before a portal-orb arrangement is ready, Angstrom may need to prioritize a defensive or mobility use first. If the opponent also requires a prepared pattern, the matchup may become a contest over whose setup covers the other’s routes. Neither conclusion is a published matchup result; it is a testable question for practice.
Can either character change the rules of movement?
Angstrom’s portals are explicitly tied to mobility and battlefield control. Against another long-range character, determine whether the opponent can force Angstrom to approach in a predictable lane, or whether Angstrom can use a portal to bypass that lane. Do not label the interaction a counter unless repeated testing and reliable data support that conclusion.
What happens when both players call an assist?
In a 3v3 game, a ranged exchange can be decided by assist timing rather than the point characters’ attacks alone. Test whether an assist protects portal placement, interrupts an orb interaction or forces the opponent to abandon a firing position. The official launch material identifies Training Mode as the place to learn character-specific movesets; it does not publish assist frame values or matchup statistics.

Practical game plan for Angstrom players
- Choose the purpose of the first portal. Decide whether you need offense, defense or mobility before placing it. A portal with no follow-up purpose may give the opponent time to advance.
- Place it where it changes a decision. Favor locations that affect an approach, retreat or escape route, then observe how the opponent responds instead of repeating the same placement automatically.
- Add the orb only when the interaction has a job. Use the orb to create a pressure or movement question that the portal alone does not create. The point is not to fill the screen; it is to make the opponent choose between identifiable risks.
- Keep a defensive exit. Since portals are part of Angstrom’s defensive and mobility identity, do not spend every available option on offense. Preserve a route for when the opponent challenges the setup.
- Use assists to buy a decision, not to hide a mistake. Call an assist when it protects a specific placement or covers a known approach. If the opponent has already reached you, reassess rather than assuming the same setup remains valid.
- Convert only after confirming the position. Portal and orb interactions are setup tools; verify that the opponent is actually trapped, displaced or forced to block before committing to a longer sequence.
How opponents can fight Angstrom
- Track the arrangement, not just Angstrom. Look at portal locations and orb positions before choosing a route.
- Challenge the preparation window. If a setup requires time, test whether a fast approach, jump, assist or character swap reaches Angstrom before the position is established.
- Do not overreact to every portal. A portal is a tool with a purpose, not proof that every area is unsafe. Identify the route it actually covers.
- Force him to spend mobility defensively. If Angstrom uses a portal to escape, note whether that removes the portal-orb interaction he wanted for offense.
- Change timing. Repeating the same approach lets a setup-heavy character prepare for you. Vary when you advance, block, jump or call an assist.
These are matchup principles, not confirmed universal counters. The official material does not establish that any named character beats Angstrom or that a specific defensive option always succeeds.
Training Mode test plan
Xbox Wire’s launch coverage describes Training Mode as the place to learn character-specific movesets. Use it to turn the developer’s broad design description into verified, matchup-specific knowledge.
- Map each portal function. Test offensive, defensive and mobility uses separately. Record where Angstrom can appear, what actions remain available and how the opponent can respond.
- Build a portal-only baseline. Practice the same situation without an orb so you know what the portal contributes by itself.
- Add one orb interaction at a time. Compare the opponent’s movement options when the orb is absent, present and combined with the portal. Avoid changing several variables at once.
- Record approach attempts. Test walking, jumping, blocking, attacking, retreating and using an assist. Mark which routes are covered and which remain open.
- Test both screen positions. A setup that works near a corner may not work in open space. Repeat the experiment from the opposite side.
- Measure consequences rather than guessing frame data. Note whether Angstrom is hit, forced to block, displaced or able to continue. Do not publish frame, damage or invulnerability claims unless the game’s data or a repeatable test establishes them.
- Practice the opponent’s best-looking answer. Once you find a route that appears to beat a setup, have Angstrom vary the portal purpose, orb timing and assist call. This reveals whether the answer is a hard counter or simply a predictable sequence.

Bottom line for matchup preparation
Approach Angstrom as a zoner who edits the battlefield. His portals can attack, defend and reposition, and his orb interactions make prepared locations more important than a simple projectile rhythm. Against other long-range characters, compare who controls the approach, who needs more setup time, how mobility changes the exchange and how assists affect the preparation window. Use Training Mode to verify each route and interaction. The available official evidence supports that playstyle identity, but not claims of a guaranteed counter, superior zoner status or a published matchup advantage.
