What the verdict means for your raid roster
Zoroark is a functional raid attacker, not a leading one. Its job is to provide Dark-type damage against bosses that take super-effective damage from Dark. It is most useful as a roster-filler: a Pokémon that lets a newer or lightly invested account field a complete team while stronger options are unavailable.

Zoroark’s raid-relevant stats and typing

These figures are Pokémon GO Hub game data accessed in 2026. They are not measurements from real-world studies. Zoroark’s 250 Attack is useful, but the 127 Defense and 155 HP are the central reason it struggles to compete with sturdier Dark attackers. In a raid, damage dealt before fainting matters more than the Attack number alone.
Dark typing: strengths and weaknesses
Zoroark is weak to Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks. It resists Psychic, Dark and Ghost attacks. Those interactions can swing its value dramatically. A boss using resisted Psychic damage may let Zoroark stay on the field long enough to contribute; a boss with super-effective Fighting or Fairy coverage can remove it quickly.
Its typing also determines whether it belongs in the team at all. If Dark is not super effective against the target, a different attacker with the correct weakness usually produces more useful damage, even if that Pokémon has a lower general ranking.

The best Zoroark moveset for raids
Set Zoroark to Snarl as its Fast Attack and Foul Play as its Charged Attack for the Dark-type raid role.

The DPS and TDO figures are Pokémon GO Hub simulator results against a neutral dummy boss. DPS means damage per second; TDO means total damage output before the attacker leaves the battle. The benchmark deliberately ignores type matchups, so it is useful for comparing the displayed movesets under one controlled setup, not for predicting a fixed result against every live raid boss.
Why Snarl is preferred
Snarl is the preferred raid Fast Attack over the legacy move Sucker Punch in the cited analysis. If an older Zoroark has Sucker Punch, check whether you can change the move before committing that Pokémon to a raid team. The recommendation is specifically for raids; a move that has value in another battle format should not be assumed to have the same energy generation or damage here.

Why Foul Play is the charged move
Foul Play keeps Zoroark in the Dark damage role and is the recommended charged attack in the raid comparison. Combining it with Snarl produces the highest listed result among the compared sets. Do not select a move solely because it performs well in Trainer Battles: Pokémon attacks use different values and behavior across battle types.

The Pokémon Company explains that attacks work differently in Trainer Battles than in other battle types, including raids. Niantic has also made separate changes to attack damage output, energy generation and attack duration for raids and Gym battles. Therefore, a PvP moveset article is not automatically a raid recommendation. Check the raid-specific values before changing Zoroark’s moves.

That official wording is a reminder that move data can change independently by battle mode. A future update could alter the relative value of Snarl, Foul Play or competing attackers, so treat current rankings and simulator numbers as time-sensitive benchmarks.
When Zoroark is a good raid choice
You need a Dark attacker immediately
If a boss is weak to Dark and your account lacks a full team of stronger counters, a powered-up Zoroark can contribute meaningful damage now. A ready attacker is often more useful than an ideal counter that you do not own, cannot evolve, or cannot power up in time for the raid.
You are filling the sixth slot
Zoroark can serve as a final team member after your best Dark attackers are selected. This is a roster decision, not evidence that Zoroark outperforms those Pokémon. Its role is to prevent an empty slot or an unsuitable type from entering the battle.

The boss’s moves favor Zoroark’s resistances
Against a target whose relevant attacks are Psychic, Dark or Ghost, Zoroark’s resistances may reduce incoming damage. That does not erase its low bulk, but it can make the matchup more tolerable than a neutral or super-effective fight. Always inspect the raid boss’s actual moveset rather than judging only by its species or primary type.
You are a newer player building a first counter group
For a developing account, the priority is a complete, correctly typed team. Zoroark with Snarl and Foul Play can fill that Dark requirement while you work toward stronger long-term investments. Once better attackers are available, move Zoroark down the priority list instead of repeatedly powering it up.
When Zoroark is not the right choice
The boss is not weak to Dark
Type effectiveness normally outweighs a general attacker ranking. If the target is weak to Ghost, Fairy, Bug or another type instead, use an attacker that exploits that weakness. Zoroark’s Dark moves may deal neutral or resisted damage and waste the team slot.
You already have stronger Dark attackers
If your roster includes a complete team of high-level Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, or available Mega and Shadow Dark attackers, Zoroark is unlikely to justify substantial Stardust or Candy investment. Keep a good specimen for future roster flexibility, but prioritize upgrades that increase damage or survivability more efficiently.
The boss carries super-effective coverage
Bug, Fairy and Fighting attacks exploit Zoroark’s weaknesses. A boss with those moves can force early fainting and relobbies, reducing the practical value of its high Attack. In that situation, a slightly less aggressive but sturdier counter may deal more total damage over the full battle.

Pokémon GO Hub’s named comparison of Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark excludes Mega and Shadow attackers. Treat those forms as a separate comparison category rather than assuming the three listed alternatives represent the absolute ceiling.

Compare damage and survival together
A high Attack stat does not guarantee the highest team contribution. Compare how much damage an attacker deals before fainting, how often the team must relobby, and whether the boss’s moves hit it super effectively. Zoroark’s low Defense and HP make survival a meaningful part of the decision.

The strongest theoretical counter is not automatically the best practical choice if you do not own it or cannot power it up. A ready Zoroark may be sensible for one raid, while a long-term roster should favor stronger options that you can repeatedly use. Keep that distinction clear: practicality explains why you might deploy Zoroark; it does not make it stronger than the alternatives.
How to build a raid team with Zoroark
- Identify the boss’s weaknesses. Confirm whether Dark is super effective. If it is not, start with the type that is.
- Check the boss’s moves. Look for Bug, Fairy or Fighting coverage that can exploit Zoroark, and for Psychic, Dark or Ghost attacks that Zoroark resists.
- Set the raid moveset. Use Snarl and Foul Play for the Dark role. Verify that the displayed attacks are the raid versions, not values copied from Trainer Battle analysis.
- Choose your strongest counters first. Add Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, or available Mega and Shadow options when they match the boss and your roster.
- Use Zoroark to fill a justified slot. Add it when Dark remains the correct type and the alternatives do not provide enough usable attackers.
- Review survivability. If Zoroark faints early, replace it with a bulkier counter or reorder the team so your most durable attackers absorb more of the battle.
- Recheck after updates. Raid attack parameters, move values and boss rotations can change. Reevaluate an old team before spending resources or entering a difficult raid.
Investment rules for Stardust and Candy
- Power up one usable Zoroark before several weak ones. A single correctly moved, adequately leveled attacker is more useful than a broad group of underpowered copies.
- Stop when it fills your actual need. Because Zoroark is a budget attacker, avoid treating it as a long-term priority once your Dark roster is complete.
- Prioritize matchup coverage. A team with several types that exploit common boss weaknesses can be more valuable than multiple copies of one middling Dark attacker.
- Account for relobbies. If low bulk forces repeated team returns, compare the total battle contribution rather than the first Pokémon’s on-screen DPS.
- Separate temporary and permanent investments. It is reasonable to use Zoroark for an immediate raid while saving resources for Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, or a qualifying Mega or Shadow attacker.
Common mistakes and fixes
Mistake: treating No. 39 as unusable
Fix: A ranking describes relative performance, not a ban list. Zoroark can still help when Dark is the correct type and stronger options are missing. Use it as a budget or filler attacker, then replace it when better counters become practical.
Mistake: treating Zoroark’s Attack stat as the whole story
Fix: Include Defense, HP, incoming move effectiveness and time on the field. Zoroark’s 250 Attack is offset by 127 Defense and 155 HP, so survival can determine its total output.
Mistake: copying a PvP moveset
Fix: Select Snarl and Foul Play for the raid Dark role and consult raid-specific move data. Battle modes can use different damage, energy and duration parameters.

Mistake: ignoring the boss’s moveset
Fix: Check whether Bug, Fairy or Fighting attacks threaten Zoroark. A boss’s charged moves can make a nominally correct counter perform poorly in practice.
Mistake: assuming named alternatives are the complete list
Fix: Include available Mega and Shadow attackers in a separate comparison. The cited Pokémon GO Hub ranking of Tyranitar, Hydreigon and Hisuian Zoroark does not include those forms.
How to interpret the simulator numbers
The Snarl/Foul Play result of 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO is higher than the displayed Shadow Claw/Foul Play result of 12.53 DPS and 158.4 TDO under the same neutral setup. That controlled comparison supports Snarl as the raid Fast Attack recommendation. It does not mean every Snarl/Foul Play Zoroark will produce exactly 14.33 DPS in a live raid.
Type multipliers, weather boosts, dodging or timing choices, the boss’s defense, the raid timer and the behavior of other players all change observed output. Use the benchmark to choose between Zoroark’s movesets, then use boss-specific effectiveness to choose whether Zoroark belongs on the team.
Maintaining the recommendation as Pokémon GO changes
Raid bosses and their moves rotate, and Niantic can alter raid and Gym attack parameters independently of Trainer Battles. Pokémon GO Hub’s rankings and simulator values are live secondary data and can change after game updates. Before a major investment, verify the current move values, the boss’s weakness and whether a newer attacker has moved ahead of Zoroark.
No single team is permanently best for the entire raid roster. A Dark attacker that is excellent for one boss can be irrelevant for another, while a move update can change the order of otherwise similar counters.
Final decision checklist
- Use Zoroark when the boss is weak to Dark and you need a practical attacker now.
- Run Snarl and Foul Play for its recommended Dark raid set.
- Expect useful but below-top-tier performance; Pokémon GO Hub ranks it No. 39 among Dark attackers.
- Remember that 250 Attack is paired with only 127 Defense and 155 HP, so fainting is a real limitation.
- Prefer Tyranitar, Hydreigon, Hisuian Zoroark, or suitable Mega and Shadow attackers when they are available and correctly matched.
- Consider Houndoom for another Dark example, or Gengar and Chandelure when Ghost is the boss’s relevant weakness.
- Use the 14.33 DPS and 181.2 TDO figure only as a neutral simulator benchmark, not a universal raid result.
In short, Zoroark earns a place as a serviceable, low-priority Dark raid attacker. Build one when it solves an immediate roster problem, but direct serious investment toward stronger or better-matched counters.
