Antstream Arcade launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on September 6, 2024, offering a streaming library advertised at more than 1,300 retro and retro-indie games. The date is in the past: this is a look back at what the launch included, not an announcement of an upcoming release.
What the September 6 PlayStation launch was
The headline referred to Antstream Arcade, a retro-game streaming service—not a new Sony-owned collection of more than 1,300 PlayStation games. Antstream’s launch announcement said the service was coming to both PS4 and PS5 on September 6, 2024, with a library of over 1,300 games. Gematsu’s September 3, 2024 report reproduced the announcement.
The advertised library covered classic arcade games and older systems through PlayStation 1, alongside retro-indie titles. A separate Insider Gaming report dated September 3, 2024 gave a snapshot of 1,357 available games. That is the outlet’s count at the time, not a verified current catalog total.
How the service was described
Antstream streams games rather than selling a new physical collection. Launch coverage described features intended to add activities around the catalog, including challenges, weekly global tournaments, leaderboards, and couch co-op. Analog Stick Gaming’s launch-day report also quoted Antstream Arcade CEO Steve Cottam: “Our goal has always been to make gaming history accessible to everyone, and our expansion to PlayStation is a major step towards that vision.”
