ARC Raiders has three different loot decisions
Loot becomes useful in three ways. You can spend gathered resources on an improvised item while Topside, recycle an item during the raid, or carry that item back to Speranza for a fuller recycling return. Treating these as one system leads to wasted materials and missed quest or recipe requirements.

Field crafting: make something now
Field crafting combines resources collected Topside into improvised items. Embark’s Help Center describes it as the way to “combine resources you collect Topside to create improvised items on the go.” It is an emergency and convenience tool: use it when the immediate item can keep a run alive, finish an objective or save a slot, rather than assuming every workshop recipe is available in the field.
Field recycling: break loot during a raid
Field recycling converts an eligible item into components before extraction. It is fast and frees inventory space, but current guidance says the return is lower than recycling at Speranza. The exact output is item-specific; broad guides describe the field return as about half of the base return, while individual item records can state a precise value.

Speranza recycling: preserve the better return
When you extract with an item intact, you can recycle it at Speranza. Waiting usually gives more components and lets you inspect the item’s wider value first: quests, recipes, station upgrades, sale value and possible use in your loadout. The trade-off is that you must spend carry space and survive the trip home.
How to field-craft during a raid
- Open Inventory. Use the inventory screen while Topside and select the Crafting tab.
- Review the available recipes. The tab lists recipes your character can currently access; it does not mean every workshop item can be made in the field.
- Filter for affordable recipes. The official help instructions include a filter that shows what can be crafted with the materials you currently hold.
- Check the tactical need. Confirm that the improvised item solves an immediate problem before spending resources that might be needed for an extraction, quest or upgrade.
- Craft and verify the result. Make sure the item entered your inventory and that the consumed resources were removed before moving on.
Field crafting is strongest when a small material expenditure prevents a much larger loss. For example, crafting an improvised item that lets you continue a valuable run can be sensible; crafting simply because a recipe is affordable can leave you short of a workshop requirement later. The inventory filter is a planning aid, not a recommendation to spend everything it shows.
How to recycle an item Topside
- Highlight the item in your inventory.
- Open the item’s details. Use the details command shown by your current control scheme.
- Select “Recycle.” Embark’s official instructions identify this as the in-raid recycling action.
- Read the confirmation screen. Check the listed output and make sure the item is not needed for an active quest, recipe, upgrade or preferred loadout.
- Confirm only when the immediate return matters. Once recycled, the intact item cannot be extracted or sold.
Use field recycling when the material can immediately improve the same raid or when the item is taking a slot you cannot spare. If the item can be carried out and you do not need its components now, defer the decision. The lower field return is the price of convenience.
Field recycling versus Speranza: which is better?

Do not turn “about half” into a guaranteed universal percentage. One item database entry can specify a 50% field return for that item, while other items may use different rules. Read the item’s current details or a maintained database before relying on an exact number. The official field-crafting support article is dated October 27, 2025; recycling guidance updated October 4, 2026 also warns that returns are not interchangeable across every item.
What to check before destroying any loot
Run this check on the individual item, not on its category or color alone.
1. Active quests
Quest objectives can require a particular item, quantity or rarity. A material gain is not useful if recycling removes the only copy needed to complete a quest. Keep quest-critical items in a clearly separated stash area until the objective is finished.

2. Recipes and workshop upgrades
An item can be both recyclable and a direct crafting ingredient. Search the item’s recipe list and your current station requirements before breaking it down. If you are one component short of a planned upgrade, the intact item may be more valuable as an ingredient than as recycled parts.

3. The recycling output
Open the item details and identify the exact component type. “Metal Parts,” for example, may be useful for one upgrade but irrelevant to the bottleneck you are currently facing. Compare the output with your next planned craft rather than stockpiling every material indiscriminately.
4. Sale value
An intact item may be worth more as a sale than as components, especially when you already have a surplus of its output. Compare the money you would receive with the value of the materials and with the cost of replacing the item later.
5. Loadout value
Do not recycle a weapon, shield or utility item merely because you are not carrying it today. Consider your next intended build, the rarity of the item and whether replacing it would require a scarce blueprint or component.
6. Carry and extraction risk
If the item occupies a slot that could hold a quest object or a high-value material, field recycling can be rational even at a reduced return. Conversely, an easy extraction route and spare capacity favor taking the intact item home.

A practical keep, sell or recycle framework
Use the following order whenever you are unsure:
- Keep it if an active quest, recipe, station upgrade or planned loadout needs the intact item.
- Extract it for later review if you have room and cannot yet decide whether its sale value, recipe use or full recycling return is best.
- Sell it when the item has no current gameplay use, its intact sale value beats the value of its components, and you need currency more than materials.
- Recycle at Speranza when you want its components, can safely carry it out and do not need an immediate field return.
- Recycle Topside only when immediate materials, inventory space or survival outweigh the reduced return.
This is a decision framework, not a fixed rule supplied by the game. A current guide recommends recycling unwanted common weapons and retaining uncommon or better weapons, but that is editorial advice. A quest requirement, recipe, upgrade plan, sale shortage or personal loadout can override rarity.

Battery example: why “junk” labels fail
The Battery illustrates why an item’s name or apparent commonness is not enough. Its database entry lists Metal Parts as the recycling output. The same entry also lists Batteries as ingredients for Energy Clip, Medium Shield and Jolt Mine recipes.
Suppose you need Metal Parts immediately to craft a survival item. Field recycling may be justified if the Battery would otherwise block your inventory and the reduced return still meets the requirement. If you are planning an Energy Clip, Medium Shield or Jolt Mine—or expect to need one soon—keeping the Battery intact can be better. If you can extract safely, taking it to Speranza preserves the option of the fuller recycling return while you decide.
The lesson applies to every loot item: inspect both sides of the record. First ask what it gives when recycled; then ask where the intact item is used. The Battery data has no clearly stated current update date, so verify the live in-game details before relying on its output or recipe list after a patch.

Managing weapons and rarity without wasting materials
Common weapons
Unwanted common weapons are a reasonable starting point for recycling when you already have a replacement and no quest or recipe needs them. Recycle Topside only if the space or immediate components matter more than the reduced return; otherwise extract and process them at Speranza.
Uncommon and higher-rarity weapons
Retain uncommon or better weapons as a cautious default because rarity can make replacement harder and the weapon may fit a future loadout. This is not an official lockout: if you have duplicates, no use for the weapon and a clear material shortage, selling or recycling can still be correct.
Duplicates
Keep the number of copies your planned loadouts require, then evaluate extras by quest status, recipe use, sale value and recycling output. Do not count a duplicate as disposable until you have checked whether a future station or blueprint depends on it.

Workshop progression and stash discipline
Material shortages are often caused by spending every affordable resource on field crafts rather than by a lack of loot. Before a raid, identify the next workshop upgrade or recipe you are pursuing and note its required components. During the raid, reserve those components unless an immediate craft is necessary to survive or extract.
Use separate stash groups for quest items, planned recipe ingredients, weapons reserved for loadouts and genuinely disposable loot. Labeling or ordering items consistently reduces accidental recycling. After returning to Speranza, process uncertain items in batches: inspect their recipe and sale uses, compare the full recycling return, then commit the decision once rather than repeatedly changing your mind under raid pressure.
Frozen Trail research bench and blueprint progression
Blueprint acquisition has changed. GamesRadar+ reported on September 24, 2026, that the Frozen Trail update introduced a research bench that lets players direct research points from found items toward selected research, including some blueprints. Executive producer Aleksander Grøndal described the purpose as reducing reliance on random blueprint finds: “Instead of necessarily having to just chase RNG to get the blueprint you want, there is a system that is called research, where you can find items in the world that contain a number of research points, and using those, you can actually choose which research that you want to have, and that includes a number of blueprints as well,” GamesRadar+ quoted him as saying.
This makes found items potentially valuable for their research points as well as their components. Before recycling or selling an item, check whether it contributes to a research path you are pursuing. The reported system does not establish a universal point cost or a complete list of eligible blueprint unlocks; verify the current research-bench interface and costs in your game before planning around a specific item.

Recycling by item color alone
Problem: rarity becomes the only decision. Fix: check quests, recipes, upgrades, sale value, loadout use and output first.
Assuming every field return is 50%
Problem: one item’s documented percentage is treated as a universal rule. Fix: read the current item details; broad guidance says about half, while exact returns vary.

Using field recycling to solve a long-term shortage
Problem: you accept fewer components even though extraction was safe. Fix: carry the item to Speranza when space and risk allow, then take the fuller return.
Ignoring recipe uses
Problem: an ingredient is destroyed because its recycling output looks useful. Fix: inspect the item’s recipe list, as with Battery’s Energy Clip, Medium Shield and Jolt Mine uses.
Spending materials because the Crafting tab says they are affordable
Problem: a field craft consumes resources reserved for an upgrade. Fix: compare the immediate benefit with your next workshop goal before confirming.
Planning blueprint progression from old information
Problem: you assume random finds are the only route, or rely on an outdated research cost. Fix: inspect the Frozen Trail research bench in the current build and confirm eligibility and costs.
One-minute raid checklist
- Is the item required for an active quest?
- Is it a direct ingredient for a recipe or workshop upgrade?
- What exact component does recycling return?
- Could the intact item be useful in a planned loadout?
- Would selling it provide more practical value than its components?
- Do you need the material before extraction?
- Do you have room and a realistic route to Speranza?
- Could the item contribute research points toward a selected blueprint?
If the answers show no immediate need, preserve the item and extract it. If the item is disposable, space is critical or the material immediately enables survival, field recycling is appropriate despite the smaller return.
The Bottom Line
Best default: craft only for an immediate Topside need, keep or extract uncertain loot, recycle at Speranza for the fuller item-specific return, and use field recycling when space, survival or urgent materials outweigh what you give up.
