ARC Raiders is worth buying for a solo PvE player only if “solo” means entering the online extraction game alone while accepting that other Raiders may attack. You can queue by yourself, fight ARC machines, scavenge, craft and complete quests, but the regular game is not an AI-only lobby. Embark’s limited PvE matchmaking test ran from October 13 to 20, 2026, and has ended; the developer has not promised that the toggle will return. Buy the Standard edition if machine combat and progression outweigh the possibility of PvP. Wait if guaranteed PvE-only matchmaking is essential, and pass if you need an offline campaign or private, pause-anytime play.

What does “solo” mean in ARC Raiders?

Solo is a party-size choice, not a PvE rule. Embark’s store description says you can play alone or in parties of up to three, while also warning that matches contain ARC machines and other survivors. A solo queue therefore means you enter without teammates; it does not create a private server, remove player weapons or prevent another Raider from contesting your route and extraction.

That distinction determines the purchase. A player who wants to make every decision alone, learn machine patterns and carry loot without coordinating a squad may find the format appealing. A player who uses “solo PvE” to mean “only computer-controlled enemies” will not get that guarantee in the normal game.

It is useful to separate three ideas that can sound similar in store listings and older guides: playing without a party, playing in a special queue, and playing in a private or offline world. The first is supported in the regular online game. The second existed as a limited PvE matchmaking test in October, but that test ended. The third is not what the game offers: Nexon says there is no single-player mode, and the service requires an internet connection. “I can play alone” is therefore true; “I can play alone without other human players” is not a reliable description of the current rules.

Is a PvE-only mode available now?

No permanent PvE-only mode is established as of the October 2026 information available for this decision. Embark’s optional matchmaking toggle ran from October 13 through October 20, then was removed while the team analyzed data and feedback.

What the October test changed

During the test, player-to-player damage was disabled, so Raiders could not directly injure one another. ARC enemies still posed the combat threat. The test also used lower overall loot value and allowed different party sizes to share sessions, so its economy and lobby composition were not a promise about a future queue.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That distinction matters even for a player who mainly wants machine fights. Zero player-to-player damage did not turn the test into an offline campaign: it still used online matchmaking and ARC enemies, and players shared sessions. Lower overall loot value also means the test was not a direct preview of the regular game’s rewards or of a future mode’s balance. If Embark brings back a PvE option, its rules could differ; the October conditions should not be treated as a permanent specification.

Several conditions were excluded: Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection. Anyone evaluating old guides should treat their instructions as historical. They describe a seven-day experiment, not a currently selectable ruleset.

Why the test ending matters

On October 20, the ARC Raiders team said it did not yet know the outcome of its data analysis. In the original September 24 explanation, executive producer Aleks also said, “This test is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future.” Embark expected to share more information in November, but neither statement guarantees a return, a permanent queue or unchanged test rules.

That makes the timing of the purchase part of the decision. If a PvE-only queue is an absolute requirement, buying now means paying for the regular mixed-threat game and hoping a later decision suits you. Waiting costs you time with the current game, but avoids making that bet. Embark’s October 20 statement that it did not yet know the result is more meaningful than a guide that still shows how to activate a toggle during the completed test.

What can a solo player actually do in the regular game?

The PvE case does not depend entirely on a dedicated queue. Normal matches include fighting ARC machines, searching for resources, crafting, pursuing trader quests and developing skills before attempting extraction. The tension comes from deciding how much loot and progress to risk on a run that can be interrupted by machines, other players or the need to reach an extraction point.

Machine combat and scavenging

ARC enemies supply the predictable part of a run. Their presence gives a solo player targets to study, routes to plan around and materials to collect. The unpredictable part is another Raider deciding that your noise, position or carried loot is worth investigating. Those two threats coexist rather than occupying separate campaigns.

This is a better fit for someone who enjoys PvE objectives inside a shared extraction world than for someone looking for a conventional solo action campaign. You can focus on scavenging and machine encounters, but you cannot assume that an area will remain yours or that a completed objective guarantees a safe trip out. The possibility of human interference is part of the risk you accept, not a separate difficulty setting described in the available mode information.

Quests, crafting and progression

Trader objectives and crafting give purpose to a run beyond winning a firefight. Skills and equipment progression can make repeated expeditions meaningful for players who enjoy incremental preparation. The trade-off is that extraction games attach consequences to failure: a run is not simply a disposable level in an offline story, so a cautious route and a decision to leave early can matter as much as combat ability.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ask whether the loop itself appeals to you: go out, search for what you need, decide how much risk to take, and try to extract. Someone who likes making that call may find solo play satisfying precisely because there is no teammate to make the decision for them. Someone who wants to pause freely, explore at their own pace or treat every quest as a protected campaign objective is better served by a game with offline or private play.

What the Frozen Trail update adds

On October 8, the Frozen Trail update added Pendola Pass, the Bully, Skulker and Hydra enemies, two weapons, a changed skill tree, an Outpost and 22 quests among its other additions. These are additional things to investigate in the live game, not evidence that the update created a solo-only environment or that every new feature is safe from player encounters.

The update is useful evidence that the game has more PvE-facing activities and content to pursue; it is not a promise about how protected those activities are. A buyer interested in a specific new enemy, quest or location should also keep the distinction between content availability and matchmaking rules in mind. New PvE content can exist in the same online world where other Raiders may be present.

How much PvP risk should a solo PvE buyer accept?

The right answer is personal because the documented game loop deliberately combines PvE work with possible PvP. Before buying, decide whether an unexpected player attack would feel like useful tension or would invalidate the reason you wanted the game.

  • Buy now when your priority is fighting machines, collecting materials, completing quests and improving a build, and you can tolerate losing a run to another survivor.
  • Wait when you would enjoy those systems only inside a guaranteed PvE lobby. Embark’s test ended and its future is undecided, so waiting preserves the option to buy after an official decision.
  • Pass when any player combat, online requirement or gear-loss tension is unacceptable. No setting documented for October 2026 turns ARC Raiders into an offline campaign.

Questions to ask yourself before checkout

  • Would I still want the machine fights and quests if a valuable run could end in a player ambush?
  • Do I enjoy repeating an extraction loop, including deciding when to bank progress rather than chase one more objective?
  • Am I buying for a confirmed feature today, or speculating that Embark will restore a PvE queue later?
  • Do I need private, pause-anytime play, or is an always-online session acceptable?

Embark’s own 2026 play-style breakdown gives some context, but not a purchase guarantee. The developer described 37% as friendly co-op players, 27% as mixed players and 34% as pure PvP players. Those are its rounded categories, not a breakdown of solo purchasers, and they should not be forced to add up to 100%. The mix suggests that different players approach the game differently; it does not show that a solo buyer will avoid PvP or that one playstyle is the intended choice.

Embark also said 51% of surveyed players were interested in a dedicated PvE option. That is interest among surveyed respondents, not a scientifically established measure of every owner’s preference or a promise to build a permanent queue. Likewise, more than 30 million PvE rounds took place during the test, according to the developer. A round count is not a count of unique players and cannot tell you whether Embark will restore the feature. These figures help explain why the question matters to players, but the current decision still rests on what is actually available.

If the first two answers are yes and the last two do not impose hard requirements, Standard is the rational edition to consider. If a PvE-only queue is a hard requirement, a future announcement—not a test recap—should be your trigger to revisit the purchase.

Should a solo PvE player buy Standard or Deluxe?

Standard is the relevant comparison for judging whether the core game fits. Steam describes Deluxe as the base game plus cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens; there is no documented Deluxe-only entitlement to PvE matchmaking, private sessions or reduced player combat.

Edition facts (checked Oct 2026)
Edition Included according to the store description Relevance to solo PvE
Standard Base game Contains the systems that determine the solo experience: ARC combat, extraction, quests, crafting and possible PvP
Deluxe Base game, cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens No documented PvE-only or offline advantage

Prices vary by storefront and region, so check the current listing where you intend to buy rather than converting a euro-denominated result into a US price. Paying for Deluxe cannot resolve the central uncertainty about the PvE queue. No verified current US checkout price is available here, so a specific dollar figure would be less useful than checking your own platform’s listing.

In short, buy based on the core game rather than treating the more expensive edition as insurance. Deluxe changes the cosmetic and token bundle described by Steam; it does not change the basic matchmaking proposition. If you later decide that you want those extras, that is a separate value judgment from whether the game’s solo experience suits you.

What online requirements and platforms apply?

ARC Raiders runs on online servers and requires an internet connection, an Embark ID and an account for the third-party platform you use. Nexon’s description says there is no single-player mode. That requirement rules out an offline campaign and means a solo run still depends on matchmaking and server availability.

Embark lists Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with GeForce NOW access. Cross-platform account details, storefront pricing and availability can change, so verify the listing for your region before purchase. None of these platform choices creates a separate PvE ruleset.

For a buyer choosing between platforms, the supported storefront or service is a practical access question, not a way to avoid the game’s central risk. Check that the version you plan to buy is listed for your platform, that you can meet the online and account requirements, and that its regional price is acceptable. GeForce NOW access is listed as an access path; it should not be confused with an offline mode or a separate edition.

What do player ratings and developer figures actually tell us?

Embark published a player-playstyle breakdown in 2026: 37% friendly co-op players, 27% mixed players and 34% pure PvP players. These are the developer’s rounded categories, not a survey of solo purchasers, and they should not be forced to total exactly 100%.

Embark also reported that 51% of surveyed players were interested in a dedicated PvE option. That figure describes surveyed respondents, not every owner, and interest is not a commitment to ship a permanent mode. During the test, Embark reported more than 30 million PvE rounds; rounds are play sessions, not unique players, and the total does not establish what matchmaking will exist later.

The Steam listing observed on October 29 showed 81% positive among 204,201 English reviews and 72% positive among 8,756 recent reviews. Those live percentages change and cover the whole game, not specifically solo PvE. Use them as broad sentiment context rather than proof that the game satisfies a player seeking an AI-only experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The developer’s figures are more directly connected to the PvE question, while Steam’s aggregates provide a broad view of reception. Neither answers the personal compatibility question: a positive overall rating can come from people who enjoy the PvP risk, play with friends or have different priorities. A buyer whose main requirement is guaranteed AI-only play should weigh the published mode status more heavily than a general review score.

Which dates and updates should a buyer keep straight?

Several announcements can be confused if you are reading old guides. The following timeline separates features that were tested, features that were added and features that were never a PvE promise.

  • January 27, 2026: Embark introduced an optional level-40 Solo vs Squads queue for experienced players seeking an additional PvP challenge. That historical patch note is not evidence that the queue remains available in October without a current announcement.
  • October 8, 2026: Frozen Trail added Pendola Pass, new ARC enemies, two weapons, a changed skill tree, an Outpost and 22 quests, among other content.
  • October 13–20, 2026: the optional PvE matchmaking test disabled player-to-player damage, reduced overall loot, mixed party sizes and excluded five named conditions.
  • October 20, 2026: Embark announced that the limited test had ended and that it needed to analyze results and feedback.
  • October 27, 2026: Live Update 2.3.0 added a player project and fixes; it did not announce a restored permanent PvE queue.
  • October 29, 2026: Embark announced a separate official physical-gear collection. It did not introduce a physical game edition or alter matchmaking.

The January item is especially easy to misread because “Solo vs Squads” sounds like a solo-friendly protection setting. It was described as an optional challenge for skilled level-40 players facing squads, not as a PvE queue. It is also historical patch documentation, so do not assume it is still selectable without a current announcement. Similarly, a general update or a new set of quests is not evidence that the ended PvE toggle has returned.

Does branded gear change the solo PvE decision?

No headset, controller or other accessory can turn the standard matchmaking rules into guaranteed PvE. Embark’s October 29 collaboration announcement named a CORSAIR HS80 RGB WIRELESS gaming headset, SCUF Omega PS5/PC and Valor Pro Xbox/PC controllers, a CORSAIR SABRE v2 PRO Wireless MG mouse, keyboard and mouse pads, and an Elgato Stream Deck MK.2. These are physical accessories, not a game edition or a mode entitlement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The announcement said exclusive in-game codes accompany qualifying purchases of the official collection at corsair.com. That does not establish that an ordinary Amazon search result includes a code, and stock of ARC Raiders-styled versions on Amazon was not verified. Treat the gear as optional: buy it only if you independently want the hardware, not as a way to solve the PvP concern or secure a PvE queue.

How should a solo PvE player make the final call?

Use the following decision order rather than treating a temporary test as a product feature.

  1. Set the non-negotiable. If offline play, a private lobby or guaranteed AI-only enemies are mandatory, stop at Pass. The documented service does not provide them.
  2. Price the PvP uncertainty. If you can accept hostile survivors as part of extraction risk, continue. If not, Waiting is safer than buying on the hope of a future toggle.
  3. Check the appeal of the core loop. Machine fights, scavenging, crafting, trader quests and skills need to be enough on their own to justify regular online sessions.
  4. Choose the base edition. Standard contains the gameplay systems relevant to this decision. Deluxe adds cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens, not a documented PvE entitlement.
  5. Recheck official news before purchasing if timing is flexible. Embark said it expected to share more information in November. Treat a new announcement as the authoritative status, not an old guide explaining the October toggle.

The practical verdict is conditional: buy Standard now for the extraction game with PvE objectives and possible PvP; wait for an official mode decision if PvE-only matchmaking is essential; pass if your definition of solo PvE excludes online opponents and server-dependent play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch between PvE and PvPvE whenever I want?

The October toggle was a limited matchmaking experiment, not a permanent profile setting with an ongoing switch. After the test ended on October 20, 2026, there was no established current toggle to move between the two rulesets.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Were every map and special condition playable in the PvE test?

No. Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection were excluded during that experiment. Those exclusions describe the past test and should not be assumed to define any future mode.

Does a positive Steam rating prove the game works for solo PvE?

No. The published rating combines all players and playstyles, while the recent-review percentage is a changing aggregate. Neither subset isolates solo players or guarantees freedom from player combat.

Can I buy Deluxe later if I start with Standard?

The documented difference is cosmetic content and 2,400 Raider Tokens on top of the base game. There is no stated solo-PvE feature that requires Deluxe, so the mode decision should be made independently of the edition upgrade.

Is the PvE toggle coming back permanently?

Embark had not announced a permanent return as of October 2026. The team said it needed to analyze the test and feedback, and executive producer Aleks said the test was not a promise of a future PvE mode. Check Embark’s later official updates rather than relying on old instructions for the test.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Solo vs Squads mean I can avoid PvP?

No. Embark introduced an optional level-40 Solo vs Squads queue in January 2026 as an additional PvP challenge for skilled players. That historical feature was not a PvE-only queue, and its present availability should be checked rather than assumed.

Can I play ARC Raiders offline or pause a run?

No offline single-player campaign is documented. The game uses online servers and requires an internet connection, an Embark ID and an account for the platform you use; it is not described as private, pause-anytime play.

What does Deluxe add, and is there a solo-PvE price premium worth paying?

Steam describes Deluxe as the base game plus cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens. No PvE-only, private-session or offline feature is documented as Deluxe-exclusive. Store prices vary by region, so compare your own listing; Standard is the edition relevant to the core mode decision.

Do the ARC Raiders accessories include a guaranteed game code if I buy on Amazon?

Embark said exclusive in-game codes accompany qualifying purchases of the official collection at corsair.com. That does not guarantee a code with a general Amazon listing, and the stock of themed versions there was not verified.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy Standard if you want ARC fights, scavenging, crafting and quests enough to accept the possibility of hostile Raiders in an online extraction run. Wait if guaranteed PvE-only matchmaking is the deciding feature: the October 13–20, 2026 test ended, and Embark has not promised a permanent replacement. Pass if you need offline, private or pause-anytime play. Deluxe adds cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens, not a documented PvE advantage.
