Yes—but only selectively. In ARC Raiders, furniture is worth crafting when it adds useful Outpost storage at a reasonable material cost. Cheap shelves and racks can expand how much you keep on display, while elaborate pieces with few or no attached slots are mainly cosmetic. Because there is no published universal material-to-storage exchange rate, judge every design by its exact recipe, slot count and your immediate need for those materials.
Why is furniture worth crafting in ARC Raiders?
Furniture is more than decoration because some pieces provide attached storage slots. You can place items on shelves, racks and other standing furniture in the Outpost, including complete item stacks. That makes a well-chosen piece a practical extension of your base rather than a purely visual reward.

The value is situational. A shelf that costs common Planks and adds several slots can be a strong early investment. A large showpiece that consumes rare components for one or two slots may be a poor use of resources unless you already have the storage and progression you need. The game does not publish a standard sell price, recycle return or material valuation for furniture, so no single break-even ratio applies to every recipe.
What did the Frozen Trail 2.0 update add?
Embark Studios introduced the Outpost and craftable furniture designs in the Frozen Trail 2.0 update on October 8, 2026. Designs work similarly to blueprints: you learn one, then use its recipe to craft the corresponding furniture. Embark describes them as designs that “can be learned and used to craft different furniture for your Outpost.”

That distribution matters when planning your materials. You will not obtain every design simply by stockpiling Planks and Sheet Metal; some require exploration, Outpost progression or paid content.
Which furniture gives the best storage for its recipe?
The clearest way to compare furniture is to place its attached slots beside its recipe. The following examples use current recipe data; they illustrate relative efficiency, not an official economy formula.

These figures show why “craft furniture” is too broad a rule. The Chambers Shelf, for example, offers many more listed slots than the Battered Weapon Rack at the same Sheet Metal cost. The Study Piano asks for a large Plank investment and rare Advanced Mechanical Components for only three slots, so its justification is usually visual rather than logistical.
What should I build first in the Outpost?
Use a storage-first order until your basic materials and progression are stable.

- Choose slot-bearing designs. Ignore appearance while your stash is constrained. A piece with attached slots creates a measurable function; one with no slots is decoration.
- Start with common materials. Cheap Plank or Sheet Metal recipes let you gain capacity without consuming components that may be needed elsewhere.
- Compare the exact recipe. Count slots against every input, including Plastic Parts, Fabric, Chemicals, research points and advanced components when a design uses them.
- Reserve rare-component furniture. Build expensive pieces after you have covered immediate crafting, repair and progression needs.
- Match the piece to your room plan. Storage is useful only if the furniture can be placed where you can reach and select it reliably.
This order is an inference from published recipes and slot counts, not a developer-issued tier list. Your best first craft can change if you are short on Planks, have abundant Sheet Metal or care more about a particular room’s appearance.
How do I calculate whether one recipe is worth it?
There is no universal material-to-storage ROI, so make a recipe-level decision instead of applying a single ratio to every design.
- Record the inputs: include ordinary materials, rare components and research-point costs.
- Record the attached slots: treat zero-slot furniture as cosmetic for this calculation.
- Check your alternatives: ask whether the same materials are needed for weapons, repairs, upgrades or another storage piece.
- Check your time horizon: a high-capacity shelf may be worthwhile before a long expedition, but wasteful if an Outpost upgrade is about to unlock a better option.
- Account for placement: a nominal slot is less valuable if clipping or an obstructed camera makes the item difficult to select.
For a simple comparison, divide attached slots by the total quantity of the main material only when the recipes use the same type of input. Do not compare a Plank-only shelf directly with a design that also consumes Advanced Mechanical Components as though those resources had equal value; the game provides no official conversion for that assumption.
What materials does furniture consume, and what is the opportunity cost?
Celeste trades the new materials used for furniture, while recipes vary considerably. Depending on the design, you may spend Planks, Sheet Metal, Plastic Parts, Fabric, Chemicals, research points, advanced components and other inputs. A furniture craft therefore competes with the rest of your Outpost and expedition economy.

Because no source publishes a standardized material price, sale value or dismantling return, it is not possible to state that a given number of slots is always “profitable.” The defensible question is whether this exact recipe gives you enough storage or visual value to justify what you cannot craft with those inputs today.
How does Outpost progression affect furniture decisions?
The Outpost itself is project-gated, and PC Gamer reports a level-18 Sheltered Retreat requirement in the practical progression path. Do not accumulate furniture materials as though every design were available from the start; first make sure the Outpost project and required level are within reach.
Outpost upgrades unlock 22 of the 100 designs. The remaining designs are obtained through Topside finds, the Frozen Trail Pass or downloadable content. Upgrading can therefore change which recipes are available, but it does not guarantee that the next design will be the best storage choice for your current inventory.
PC Gamer also reports that rooms and their layout cannot currently be changed after construction. Treat room placement as a commitment: leave paths to storage accessible, avoid crowding interactive points and do not spend rare materials on a large centerpiece until you are comfortable with the room arrangement.

What are the current furniture bugs and layout risks?
Embark’s current known-issues list includes several problems that can reduce the practical value of a well-priced piece:
- Furniture can clip through the Outpost environment.
- A piece can block a slot and make that slot unselectable.
- Furniture can obstruct the camera.
- Raiders can clip through tables.
These are not reasons to avoid all furniture, but they are reasons to place high-value storage conservatively. Test the intended location in the room before committing to a large arrangement, keep interactive areas clear and be prepared for a patch to alter behavior. A recipe that looks efficient on paper is less useful if its slots cannot be reached.
When should I delay crafting furniture?
Delay a craft when any of the following is true:
- You still need the same materials for an imminent Outpost project or a weapon and repair requirement.
- The design has no attached slots and your current goal is storage.
- The recipe consumes rare components for only a few slots.
- You have not settled on a room layout and may be unable to revise it later.
- A known clipping or camera problem affects the intended placement.
Delay does not mean “never build it.” Cosmetic pieces can be worthwhile once your functional storage is covered, especially if the Outpost is a long-term customization project rather than a temporary staging area.

- Unlock the Outpost project and meet its level requirement. Confirm the progression gate before reserving a large material stockpile.
- Learn available designs. Separate Topside finds from Outpost-upgrade unlocks and paid or DLC-exclusive designs so you know what can actually be acquired in your current path.
- Build one inexpensive storage piece. Use a common-material shelf or rack to establish whether the room layout and interaction points work for you.
- Upgrade by slot return. Add higher-capacity designs when their recipe does not compete with a more urgent need.
- Add cosmetic furniture last. Once storage is adequate, spend on pianos, ornate pieces and zero-slot designs for appearance rather than expected economic return.
This approach keeps the opportunity cost visible. It also avoids locking an expensive centerpiece into a room before you know how the Outpost’s current placement and clipping behavior affect it.

Is there a universal answer for every player?
No. Furniture is worth the materials when the design supplies useful attached slots at a cost you can spare, or when its appearance is itself your goal. It is not automatically worth crafting simply because it is available, and the game does not provide enough published economic data to calculate a universal break-even point.
The safest default is therefore: craft cheap, slot-bearing storage first; postpone rare-component and zero-slot pieces; and treat room layout as a one-way decision until the game’s construction tools change.

Can furniture hold a full stack of items?
Yes. Furniture can be decorated with items, including full stacks, so an attached slot is useful for more than displaying a single object. The practical limit is whether the piece remains reachable and selectable in your room.
What is the maximum stash size in ARC Raiders?
Embark lists a maximum of 328 stash slots without Expedition bonuses or additional Nomadic Envoy space. That figure is separate from judging an individual furniture recipe, which still depends on the piece’s attached slots and material cost.
Do Outpost upgrades unlock every furniture design?

Should I spend Sheet Metal on a weapon rack or a shelf?
