The complete path requires one Dog Collar, 3 Lemons, 15 Apricots, 6 Prickly Pears, 6 Olives, one Cat Bed, 12 Mushrooms, and three Very Comfortable Pillows. The items are used for permanent upgrades, not for Scrappy’s separate feeding-boost system.

How to upgrade Scrappy
- Return to the hub and open the Workshop.
- Select Scrappy.
- At the top of the Scrappy panel, select Level Up.
- Choose the next available level and review its displayed requirements.
- Gather the listed items, then confirm the upgrade when all requirements are in your inventory.
The current interface places Scrappy’s upgrade control alongside the other workshop-station upgrade controls. Older guides may tell you to select Train; that describes an earlier interface. If you cannot find the old button, check the top of the Scrappy panel instead. The UI change is also discussed in this community report.
Where to find every required item
Dog Collar
Search containers and loose loot in Residential areas. Reported high-probability locations include:
- Dam Battlegrounds: Ruby Residence and Pale Apartments
- Buried City: Grandioso Apartments
- Blue Gate: Raider’s Refuge, Village, and the Ruined Homestead northwest of Ancient Fort
The Dog Collar is a rare blue recyclable item, so it can be easy to miss or accidentally recycle. Once you find one, place it in your Safe Pocket before continuing the raid if you have not yet extracted. Location reports are compiled by GameSpot and PC Gamer.
Rank #2
Cat Bed
Look through residential and commercial containers, especially in residential points of interest. Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments, and Grandioso Apartments are reported locations. The Cat Bed is needed for Level 4, so keep it rather than selling or recycling it.
Very Comfortable Pillow
Search residential and commercial loot, with medical locations offering reported higher-yield searches. Two useful targets are:
- Testing Annex on Dam Battlegrounds
- Hospital on Buried City
You need three Very Comfortable Pillows for Level 5. Their high sell value makes them particularly easy to sell by mistake, so reserve all three as soon as you identify them.
Rank #3
- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Lemons and Apricots
Harvest fruit trees in nature areas. Village in northern Blue Gate is a reported concentrated location for both fruits. Lemons and Apricots can also appear in the swampy areas of Dam Battlegrounds and other vegetation-rich zones.
You need 3 Lemons for Level 3 and 15 Apricots overall: 3 for Level 3 plus 12 for Level 5. Because the Apricot requirement is split across two upgrades, do not stop collecting after finding the first three.
Prickly Pears
Search around cacti, particularly along the outer areas of Dam Battlegrounds and in the southern section of Buried City. Collect six for Level 4.

- Build a fire or shelter, then craft customizable clothing & armors to help protect against damage and extreme temperatures on your way to unlocking advanced technologies and equipment
- Chop down trees and mine metal and other precious resources to build massive multi-leveled structures composed of complex snap-linked parts
Olives
Look for olive trees in nature-heavy areas. The Olive Grove landmark on Blue Gate is a reported location; olives may be found on the trees or on the ground nearby. Six are required for Level 4.
Mushrooms
Search vegetation-rich nature areas, especially around tree trunks and other patches of undergrowth. Level 5 requires 12 Mushrooms, making them one of the larger collection goals on the upgrade path.

Protecting and tracking upgrade items
Use the Safe Pocket for rare finds
Required items can be lost if you die before extracting. Put a Dog Collar, Very Comfortable Pillow, or another difficult-to-replace requirement in the Safe Pocket as soon as you find it. The Safe Pocket preserves the item if your Raider dies or otherwise fails to extract.

Track the active requirement
Use the tracking option on the Scrappy upgrade screen. When the tracked item appears in your inventory, its item card receives a distinctive diamond marker, which is useful for spotting rare recyclable items such as the Dog Collar. The tracking behavior is documented by PC Gamer.
How Scrappy’s resource gathering works after upgrading
Scrappy does not generate materials simply because you remain in the hub. His resource generation is tied to completed raid activity. The cited guide reports that the reward roll occurs whether you successfully extract or fail to extract, but idling in the hub produces no scavenged materials.
Current community-maintained data says Scrappy accumulates rewards for five rounds, then stops accumulating until you collect the stored resources. Make a habit of claiming his materials before starting another series of raids; see the Scrappy data page for the current behavior.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Raid duration also affects the payout. The documented thresholds are more than 1 minute, more than 6 minutes, and more than 15 minutes in a round. Extracting and failing to extract use different base payout tables. The same current data identifies unusual Level 4 payout values for Update 1.31.0: the Level 4, over-one-minute non-extraction value and the Level 4, over-six-minute extraction value are specifically recorded as accurate for that update.
Scrappy’s feeding boost is separate from his level upgrades
The Flashpoint update, launched on March 31, 2026, added Scrappy’s feeding boost mechanic. Feeding affects the resource categories and bonus items he can return, but it does not replace or alter the permanent item requirements listed above. Details about the feature are covered in PC Gamer’s Flashpoint update coverage.
Scrappy’s food queue holds six items. Current data states that you must remain in a round for at least six minutes for him to consume the next queued food and grant its additional reward. Each food entry adds a flat +5 to its listed base-resource effect, regardless of Expedition count. These feeding rules are separate from the Level 2–5 upgrade checklist.
Quick Recap
Common outdated information
- “Train” is missing: The control was moved to the top of the Scrappy panel and is now presented as the level-up control with the other station upgrades.
- Level 2 needs a Torn Blanket: That comes from playtest-era information. The full-release requirement is Dog Collar ×1 only.
- There are only four Scrappy levels: The current progression has five levels, with Level 1 unlocked automatically and upgrades continuing through Level 5.
- Apricots total 12: The correct full-path total is 15: three at Level 3 and 12 more at Level 5.
- Scrappy produces materials while you wait in the hub: He requires raid activity; hub idling does not generate scavenged resources.
