To fix the inconsistent or “negative acceleration” mouse feel in ARC Raiders on PC, open the game menu with Esc, select Settings, open Mouse and Keyboard, and set Mouse Smoothing to Off. The option was added in update 1.13, so current players normally do not need to edit configuration files or lower their mouse polling rate.
How to disable mouse smoothing in ARC Raiders
- Press Esc to open the game menu.
- Select Settings.
- Open the Mouse and Keyboard tab.
- Find Mouse Smoothing and change it to Off.
- Apply or confirm the change if the game prompts you.
The setting may be On by default after the update, so do not assume that simply having the new option available means smoothing is disabled. The current control is called Mouse Smoothing; there is no separate in-game switch labelled “negative acceleration.” (PCGamingWiki)

Retune your sensitivity after switching it off
Disabling smoothing can make the mouse feel faster, sharper, or more twitchy, particularly if you had adapted to the old behavior or had been using a reduced polling rate. This does not necessarily mean the fix failed.
Use the Practice Range before playing a match. Adjust these controls gradually under Settings > Mouse and Keyboard:

Change one setting at a time and test both ordinary camera movement and aiming down sights. Your goal is to establish a new consistent baseline rather than reproduce the exact hand movement you used while smoothing was enabled. The available control names are documented in the ARC Raiders settings reference.
Do you still need the 250 Hz polling-rate workaround?
Usually, no. Before update 1.13 added the in-game toggle, players commonly reduced their mouse polling rate to 250 Hz or lower through their mouse manufacturer’s software. Historical reports associated the problem with high polling rates, with particularly severe symptoms reported at 4,000 Hz and above; some players found 1,000 Hz acceptable.

- Mechanical Switch Button Tensioning: A metal spring tensioning system and metal pivot hinges are built into left and right computer gaming mouse buttons for a crisp, clean click feel with rapid click feedback
That workaround is no longer the primary solution. First leave your preferred polling rate alone and set Mouse Smoothing to Off. Only test a lower polling rate if the in-game setting does not resolve the problem on your particular setup. A March 2026 player report specifically describes the menu option as replacing the older configuration-file and 250 Hz workaround. (Reddit discussion)
Should you edit GameUserSettings.ini?
Not as the first step. The old workaround edited this file:

and added the following under the Unreal input-settings header:
[/script/engine.inputsettings]
RawMouseInputEnabled=Enabled
bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
bViewAccelerationEnabled=False
This is legacy guidance from the period before the in-game option existed. Current reports indicate that Mouse Smoothing → Off is sufficient, so manually adding these properties should not be necessary for most players.

If the menu fix does not work
Use the file method only as a fallback, and close ARC Raiders completely before editing. The running game can overwrite the file when it exits. If the [/script/engine.inputsettings] header already exists, place the properties beneath that existing header rather than creating a second copy.
Save the file with the exact name GameUserSettings.ini. Windows must not append .txt, producing the unusable filename GameUserSettings.ini.txt. Back up the file before changing it so you can restore the previous configuration if needed. This older procedure is documented by All Things How.

What the “negative acceleration” problem feels like
Players used the term “negative acceleration” to describe aim that did not feel consistently proportional to mouse movement. A slow movement and a fast movement covering a similar physical distance could produce an unexpectedly different turn, making flicks, tracking, and muscle memory feel unreliable. Mouse smoothing was the exposed setting added to address the relevant behavior; it is not a separate negative-acceleration toggle.
Older guides may also describe the issue as a UE4 problem. That explanation is incorrect: ARC Raiders uses Unreal Engine 5. The engine label does not change the practical fix, but it is useful context when evaluating old troubleshooting posts.
Quick Recap
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that you changed Mouse Smoothing, not a sensitivity or zoom multiplier.
- Verify the option is actually set to Off; it may default to On after the update.
- Restart the game if the behavior does not change immediately.
- Test in the Practice Range before changing several sensitivity values.
- Keep your normal polling rate initially; do not jump straight to 250 Hz unless the menu fix fails.
- If you use the legacy file method, close the game first and check that the filename is not ending in
.txt.
