ARC Raiders Player Counts per Map: What’s Confirmed About Squads, Matchmaking, and Raids

Embark has not confirmed a fixed number of players per ARC Raiders map. Here’s what is known about squad sizes, matchmaking behavior, Solo vs Squad, and queue problems.

Embark has not published an official player-count limit for individual ARC Raiders maps or a fixed maximum number of Raiders in each raid. The often-repeated “30 players per lobby” figure is community speculation, not a confirmed game rule. What is documented is the queue structure: players enter as Solo, Duo, or Trio, while matchmaking continuously estimates playstyle and gradually groups similar behavior without creating guaranteed “friendly” or “aggressive” lobbies.

How many players are in an ARC Raiders map?

There is no verified official number for how many Raiders can spawn on a map, and Embark does not currently publish a fixed “players per map” or “maximum Raiders per raid” value. Its matchmaking explanation does not specify a universal lobby size.

That means claims that every map contains exactly 30 players should be treated as unconfirmed. Raid populations may feel different because of region, time of day, matchmaking conditions, squad composition, map conditions, and how many players are still active when you encounter them. None of those observations establish a published player cap.

Map conditions can also alter encounter density. For example, the Bird City condition on Buried City was described as concentrating more combat around rooftops, adding flying ARC, and placing more players in proximity. That changes how busy a raid may feel, but it does not announce a separate player limit.

What squad sizes does ARC Raiders use?

The documented squad categories are:

  • Solo: one Raider.
  • Duo: two Raiders.
  • Trio: three Raiders.

Since Live Update 1.36.0, released July 7, 2026, ARC Raiders tracks playstyle separately for Solo, Duo, and Trio matchmaking. Switching from Solo to Duo or Trio therefore no longer carries the same playstyle history across all queues.

The squad leader does not receive special matchmaking weight. Each member contributes equally to the squad’s matchmaking profile, so changing who hosts or leads the party is not a way to manipulate the queue.

How ARC Raiders matchmaking actually works

ARC Raiders uses a continuous playstyle estimate rather than two fixed lobby types. Embark has specifically said there are not separate “friendly” and “aggressive” buckets. Similar behavior is more likely to be grouped together, but the system does not guarantee that every player in a raid wants the same kind of encounter.

There are also no PvE-only lobbies or servers. Every Topside raid retains the possibility of another Raider attacking you.

What affects the playstyle estimate?

The system evaluates patterns over time and changes gradually. A single shot or kill does not immediately move a player into a PvP-focused queue. Under the defensive-PvP rule being tested in Live Update 1.39.0, released July 28, 2026, only fights a player or squad chooses to start affect the playstyle estimate. Defensive actions do not count during the test, including knocking out an enemy that attacked first.

For squads, the starting side is determined across the whole party:

  • If another squad damages, downs, or knocks out any member of your squad first, your squad is treated as defending.
  • The squad that strikes first is treated as starting the fight.
  • Joining an already active fight between other squads—third-partying—is treated as initiating PvP.

This rule concerns the behavior estimate; it does not turn a raid into a protected or PvE-only instance.

What does not affect matchmaking?

  • Loadout value: expensive gear does not place you in a different difficulty bracket.
  • Looting a knocked-out player: taking another Raider’s items does not affect the matchmaking estimate.
  • Squad leadership: the leader does not have greater influence than other members.
  • End-of-round surveys: survey responses are used for broader design decisions, not as a switch for your next lobby.
  • Crossplay status: Crossplay changes the available player pool and potentially queue time, not whether a raid is friendly or aggressive.

Solo versus squads: the optional queue

Standard Solo matchmaking is not automatically a Solo-versus-squad mode. Since patch 1.13.0, released January 27, 2026, Solo Raiders who are level 40 or above can use the Solo vs Squad toggle shown above matchmaking.

Activating it places the solo player in the Squads queue against squads. In exchange, the mode grants 20% bonus XP at the end of the round whether the player extracts successfully or is defeated. If you want ordinary Solo matchmaking, leave the toggle disabled.

Why matchmaking may feel slower or less consistent

Matchmaking quality can vary by population and region. Store Update 1.38.0, released July 21, 2026, described optimization testing for situations where quality could degrade during low-population hours, in certain regions, or under particular map conditions. Embark warned that the algorithm might take longer to find a match.

Store Update 1.40.0, released August 4, 2026, did not announce a new player-count limit or replace the matchmaking rules introduced in Updates 1.36.0 through 1.39.0. Reported Xbox crashes—particularly on Series S—and PC launch error investigations are support issues, not evidence of a map-population cap.

Fix slow or failed matchmaking

1. Set the server to Automatic

Use the correct path for your platform:

  • PC: click the gear icon at the bottom right → Gameplay → Server → Automatic.
  • Console: open Social → select the gear icon on the left → Gameplay → Server → Automatic.

These steps come from Embark’s matchmaking troubleshooting guidance.

2. Check Crossplay

Embark identifies Crossplay being disabled as the most common reason matchmaking feels slow. Disabling it reduces the available pool, although enabling it does not guarantee a particular encounter style.

In a party, the most restrictive Crossplay setting applies to everyone. If one member has Crossplay disabled, the entire party queues with Crossplay disabled even when the other members have it enabled.

3. Synchronize your device clock

If standard maps work but you cannot find a match for map conditions—or cannot join those conditions—synchronize your device clock. Embark lists a clock mismatch as a possible cause of both failed matchmaking and failed access to map conditions.

Is there a player-count command or hidden setting?

No documented command syntax controls the number of players in a raid. ARC Raiders’ confirmed matchmaking controls are UI settings and toggles, such as Server, Crossplay, squad category, and the Solo vs Squad option for eligible Solo Raiders. No official player-count command or map-population setting has been published.

What players can safely conclude

You can reliably say that ARC Raiders supports Solo, Duo, and Trio play; that matchmaking considers playstyle over time; and that every Topside raid can contain hostile Raiders. You cannot reliably state that every map has exactly 30 players, that a specific map always has a fixed population, or that loadout value, surveys, or squad leadership determine the lobby.

The most accurate answer to “How many players are on this map?” is therefore: Embark has not publicly specified the number. Encounter density is real and can change with conditions and matchmaking circumstances, but observed activity should not be mistaken for an official player cap.
