What changed in the January ARC Raiders update?
Embark Studios released version 1.11.0 across platforms on January 13, 2026. The update’s headline changes included adjustments to the Kettle and Trigger ‘Nade, alongside a cosmetic addition. Players had to restart the client to download the patch, according to Embark’s official patch notes.

Kettle fire rate reduced
The Kettle’s listed fire rate fell from 600 to 450. Embark said the previous rate was realistically attainable only with macros, creating an unfair advantage for players using third-party software. These are the patch-note values, not independent performance-test results.
Trigger ‘Nade changed
The Trigger ‘Nade’s damage falloff was adjusted to concentrate more damage near the explosion’s center and reduce it farther away. Its delay after being triggered increased from 0.7 seconds to 1.5 seconds. Embark said the longer delay was intended to give targets more time to react and make midair detonations harder to time, while preserving the grenade’s usefulness as a sticky bomb.
Exploit fixed and Night Raid lighting adjusted
The patch fixed a key-card exploit that allowed players to keep room keys after using them. Embark also lowered lighting in some parts of Stella Montis Night Raid, making flashlights and listening more relevant in those areas.

Why did some players object to the Abyss set?
The update added the Abyss cosmetic set, and VICE reported that some players criticized the outfit’s leg garters. The complaints described in its coverage of update 1.11.0 focused on that design detail, including requests for a way to remove it. That supports a limited conclusion: some players disliked part of the cosmetic’s appearance. It does not establish how many players felt that way, nor does it show broad opposition to the gameplay changes.
Was the Gilded Pickaxe gift still available?
No. Embark’s update notes announced a Gilded Pickaxe Raider Tool gift for players who had logged in since launch and logged in by January 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CET (2:59 p.m. PST / 5:59 p.m. EST). That eligibility window has passed, so the gift should not be treated as a current offer. The notes also marked 12 million copies sold and said the gift had been prepared after the game passed 10 million players over the holidays.

Don’t confuse this with the December backlash
A separate controversy followed the December 16, 2025, Cold Snap update, concerning a skill-tree reset and its perceived effect on Expedition rewards. That was a different issue from the January 13 update and the Abyss outfit reaction; VICE’s report on the December dispute covers that earlier controversy. The January patch also followed a January 6 preview that discussed potential Trigger ‘Nade changes, before Embark published the final adjustments in version 1.11.0 (PC Gamer’s preview).
