Yes—in DOOM lore, Hell’s forces are portrayed as fearing the Doom Slayer, better known to many players as Doomguy. But that reputation does not make demons stop attacking: the games still send them against the player in relentless combat.
Why do demons fear Doomguy?
Doomguy and the DOOM Slayer are names used for the same character. In a developer interview, the studio’s terminology for him includes Doom Guy, Doom Marine and Doom Slayer.

The lore gives the Slayer a fearsome reputation among Hell’s forces. The community-maintained Doom Wiki attributes this description to his story: “Despair spread before him like a plague, striking fear into the shadow-dwellers, driving them to deeper and darker pits.” That wording supports the idea that demons fear him, though the cited source is secondary rather than the game’s codex itself.

If demons fear him, why do they still attack?
The lore describes the Slayer’s reputation; gameplay depicts the fights players have to survive. Bethesda describes DOOM Eternal as a campaign in which the Slayer fights through a relentless demon onslaught, with enemies that grow more demanding. So fear should not be read as a rule that every demon flees or refuses to fight.

Developer commentary also treats the conflict as ongoing, rather than as a war that ends once demons know who the Slayer is. Executive producer Marty Stratton said the title Eternal symbolizes “that there’s always going to be demons and there’s always going to be a Slayer,” describing an enduring struggle between good and evil. When do demons start fearing Doomguy?

What the games show about their enemies
DOOM’s enemy design is built around fighting, not simply watching demons run away. Bethesda’s Slayers Club article describes creative director Hugo Martin’s collaboration with Noclip on the DOOM Eternal bestiary and the design of familiar and new enemies, calling them brutal and relentless. That context fits the distinction: demons can be fearsome opponents in play while the lore gives the Slayer a fearsome reputation in Hell.
