No. Niantic Kids and Pokémon Trainer Central are separate account systems. Pokémon describes Niantic Kids as an alternative child-access option for Pokémon GO, but the accounts cannot be linked to transfer progress. Pokémon’s current child-account help uses the name “Pokémon Trainer Central,” although “Pokémon Trainer Club” still appears in some support labels and titles.
What is the difference?
Both systems can provide a child with a way to play Pokémon GO, but they are not interchangeable accounts. Pokémon Support describes Pokémon Trainer Central as one child-account option and Niantic Kids, provided by Pokémon GO publisher Niantic, as a different system.
| Account system | What it is used for | Who manages setup |
|---|---|---|
| Pokémon Trainer Central | Child access to Pokémon GO, plus sign-in to several Pokémon games and apps, Play! Pokémon event and tournament tracking, and management of preferences and permissions for connected games, apps, and the newsletter. (Pokémon Support, updated June 10, 2026; Pokémon Support, updated January 30, 2026) | A parent or guardian adds and manages the child account through their own Pokémon account. (Pokémon Support, updated June 10, 2026) |
| Niantic Kids | An alternative account system for a child to access Pokémon GO. Pokémon’s cited FAQ identifies it as a different system but does not provide a full comparison of its features with Pokémon Trainer Central. (Pokémon Support, updated June 10, 2026) | Pokémon’s FAQ points parents to Niantic’s support and children’s privacy information for Niantic Kids details; it does not set out the account-creation steps. |
Why does Pokémon use both “Trainer Club” and “Trainer Central”?
Pokémon’s current child-account FAQs call the system “Pokémon Trainer Central,” while the support category still uses “Pokémon Trainer Club / Account,” and some help-page titles retain “Pokémon Trainer Club.” This naming overlap does not mean Pokémon Trainer Central and Niantic Kids are the same service.
How to add a child to Pokémon Trainer Central
- Sign in to your own Pokémon Trainer Central account.
- Open the profile menu and choose Add a Child.
- Complete identity verification if prompted.
- Enter the requested details for the child’s account, accept the terms, and create the account.
Pokémon’s help pages also cover verifying a child account. Follow those instructions if verification is required; the steps above apply to Pokémon Trainer Central, not Niantic Kids. (Pokémon Support, updated June 10, 2026)

Can you switch accounts or transfer Pokémon GO progress?
No. Pokémon Support says there is no account-linking or progress-transfer functionality between Pokémon Trainer Central, Google, and Niantic Kids accounts. Do not assume that changing a child’s sign-in method will move progress from one system to another. (Pokémon Support, updated February 13, 2026)

Pokémon GO’s login-provider guidance adds a related restriction: multiple login providers are unavailable for child accounts. It also says a Niantic Kids or Pokémon Trainer Club child account cannot be linked if Google, Apple, or Facebook has already been linked. This concerns Pokémon GO login arrangements; it does not offer a way to connect the two child-account systems or transfer progress. See Niantic Support’s guidance on linking an additional login provider.
