Yes, Windows 11 24H2 caused genuine gaming problems—but not every crash is a 24H2 bug. Microsoft confirmed a narrow compatibility problem involving older Easy Anti-Cheat drivers on some Intel Alder Lake-or-newer vPro systems. That issue was marked resolved on July 24, 2025, and Microsoft also released updates for unexpected restarts when launching Easy Anti-Cheat games.
If your games are crashing now, first identify whether the failure began after the original feature upgrade, a later cumulative update, a graphics-driver change, or a game patch. Then apply the least destructive fix that matches the symptom.

First, identify what kind of crash you have
The symptom matters more than the phrase “24H2 crash.” Use this as a starting point:

A single game crashing does not prove that Windows is responsible. A game patch, corrupted files, mods, ReShade, overlays, unstable overclock, defective RAM, or an anti-cheat update can create the same symptoms.

Was Windows 11 24H2 actually responsible?
The connection is more convincing when the problem started immediately after the upgrade or a named cumulative update, affects several games, or affects games using the same anti-cheat, graphics API, launcher, or GPU driver. It is also significant if Windows Reliability Monitor, Event Viewer, or a blue-screen message identifies a Windows, graphics-driver, or anti-cheat component.
“Windows 11 24H2” is not one unchanging update. It is a feature-update version that received continuing monthly cumulative updates. Check Microsoft’s Windows 11 24H2 release-health page and compare the exact KB number and installation date with the beginning of the failures.
The confirmed Easy Anti-Cheat problem was narrow
Microsoft documented crashes, freezes, and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT blue screens on a limited group of systems using Intel Alder Lake-or-newer processors with the vPro platform and older Easy Anti-Cheat drivers, particularly drivers released before April 2024. Microsoft placed a safeguard hold on affected devices and marked the issue resolved on July 24, 2025.
That does not mean every Easy Anti-Cheat game, Intel PC, or 24H2 installation is affected. Easy Anti-Cheat updates are supplied through game publishers, so installing Windows updates alone may not update the component inside a game. Update the game and its launcher first.
Microsoft also released the out-of-band KB5063060 update on June 11, 2025, addressing unexpected restarts when opening games that use Easy Anti-Cheat. The Microsoft resolved-issues page contains the official scope and status.

1. Check your Windows version and recent KB update
- Open Settings > System > About and confirm the Windows version and OS build.
- Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history.
- Note whether the crashes began after the 24H2 feature upgrade or after a later cumulative update.
- Check Microsoft’s release-health pages for a matching issue before removing anything.
Also record whether one game or several games are affected, whether a blue-screen stop code appears, and whether the PC restarts without warning. That evidence prevents you from treating a game-specific problem as a Windows-wide failure.
2. Install every pending update
Go to Settings > Windows Update, install available updates, and use Restart afterward rather than sleep or hibernation. Later cumulative updates may contain fixes for earlier 24H2 problems.

3. Update the game, launcher, and anti-cheat component
Open the game through its normal launcher and allow all pending game, launcher, and anti-cheat updates to finish. Restart Windows after an anti-cheat update. If only one Ubisoft or other publisher-specific game fails, the publisher’s patch or anti-cheat package is a stronger suspect than Windows globally.
4. Update—or carefully roll back—the graphics driver
Download drivers from the official Nvidia, AMD, or Intel support site. A driver delivered through Windows Update may not be the newest Game Ready, Adrenalin, or Arc release.

Laptop owners should check the laptop manufacturer first when the system uses switchable or hybrid graphics, because custom power-management and display configurations can make the generic GPU package unsuitable.
If the crash began immediately after a new graphics driver, use the manufacturer’s rollback option or perform a clean installation of a known-stable driver. Do not interpret Microsoft’s older Nvidia safeguard guidance as proof that all Nvidia cards are incompatible with 24H2. That warning concerned specific affected driver versions during the upgrade process.
5. Repair the game and remove common conflicts
Use the launcher’s Verify files, Repair, or equivalent option. Then temporarily remove or disable:
- Mods, ReShade, DLL injectors, and custom launch arguments
- Discord, recording, FPS, RGB, and hardware-monitoring overlays
- Third-party antivirus or anti-ransomware game integrations
- GPU tuning, undervolting, overclocking, and XMP/EXPO memory profiles
Test at stock hardware settings. An operating-system or driver change can expose instability that was already present in RAM, the GPU, cooling system, power supply, or motherboard firmware.
6. Repair Windows system files with DISM and SFC
Open Command Prompt as administrator and run DISM first:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestorehealthWait for DISM to finish successfully. Then run:
sfc /scannowLet verification reach 100 percent and do not close the window while SFC is running. Microsoft explains these tools in its System File Checker guidance.
DISM repairs the Windows image and SFC checks protected system files. They cannot repair a broken game patch, failing GPU, defective RAM, or an anti-cheat driver that the publisher has not updated. If SFC cannot perform the requested operation, retry in Safe Mode or continue with Windows recovery and repair options.

Consider removing a cumulative update when several games or graphics-heavy applications began failing immediately after one named KB, driver and game updates did not help, and Microsoft’s release-health page lists a matching problem. Removing a security update reduces protection, so it is not the default first step.
In Windows, go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates. Select the suspected update, choose Uninstall, and restart.

Some updates cannot be removed. If Windows will not boot, enter the Windows Recovery Environment and select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates. Choose Uninstall latest quality update, or the feature-update removal option when available. Microsoft’s current support instructions contain slightly different wording in one recovery section, so the exact labels can vary by build. See the official update-removal guide.

8. Roll back 24H2 if the feature upgrade caused the failure
Use Settings > System > Recovery > Go back when the problem began directly after the feature upgrade and normal updates, game repairs, and driver changes have not solved it.
Microsoft says Go back is usually available for only 10 days. Personal files are retained, but applications and drivers installed after the upgrade, along with later Settings changes, may be removed. The option also depends on the previous-version files, including Windows.old, still being present.
Rollback is a temporary compatibility measure, not a long-term plan. Microsoft lists Windows 11 25H2 as the latest Windows 11 version in the supplied lifecycle information, while Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions are scheduled to reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. Check the current release-health page before making a version decision.

Use increasingly disruptive recovery options:
- System Restore: choose a restore point from before the crashes. It normally preserves personal files but can remove software, settings, or updates installed afterward. See Microsoft’s System Restore guidance.
- Windows repair or reinstall while keeping personal files: use this when Windows components remain unstable after less destructive repairs.
- Reset this PC: use only after backing up data, confirming game-save synchronization, and locating application installers, licenses, and the BitLocker recovery key. Even when personal files are retained, applications and settings can be removed.
Microsoft’s recovery-options matrix maps a recent update problem to Uninstall an update and a problem following a new Windows version to Go back to the previous version of Windows.
When the problem probably is not Windows
- Only one game fails while other demanding games work.
- The game received a patch immediately before the crashes.
- Disabling mods or overlays fixes the issue.
- The PC crashes under other workloads, suggesting RAM, GPU, storage, cooling, firmware, or power problems.
- The failure appears only with an overclock, undervolt, XMP/EXPO profile, HDR setup, or multi-monitor configuration.
- The crash is tied to a publisher-specific launcher or anti-cheat update.
Repeated blue screens, full system restarts, overheating, corrupted files, or crashes outside games are reasons to stop repeatedly reinstalling games and test the hardware or seek professional support. Capture the stop code and dump information when possible.
