aslmessaging.dll is an Adobe Media Core component, not a Windows DLL, so the safest fix is to repair or reinstall the Adobe application that reports it. If the error appeared while Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Audition, or another Adobe media app was starting, do not download a replacement and copy it into System32.
What this file actually does
aslmessaging.dll is an Adobe-owned library used by parts of Adobe Media Core. It can be present inside applications such as:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Premiere Pro
- Adobe Media Encoder
- After Effects
- Adobe Audition
- Some older Adobe applications, including possible related builds in Animate, Photoshop, or Captivate
The exact owner depends on the application path in the error message or crash report. Public Adobe crash reports show copies inside Adobe application directories, including paths similar to:
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Audition CC 2017ASLMessaging.dll
C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Audition CC 2018ASLMessaging.dll
It is not normally installed in:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
The file is also not a general-purpose Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. A public catalog identifies examples of 32-bit version 6.0.0.0, 32-bit version 7.0.0.0, and later 64-bit builds, but these are examples rather than a complete Adobe version list. File size and version must match the Adobe product and build that installed the file.

Fix 1: Identify the Adobe application first
Before changing Windows files, read the complete error path.
- Press
Win + R. - Enter
eventvwr.mscand press Enter. - Open Windows Logs > Application.
- Find the error at the time of the Adobe crash.
- Look for Faulting application path, Faulting module path, and the application name.
- Write down the Adobe product and whether its folder is under
Program Filesor another location.
You can also search File Explorer for ASLMessaging.dll. A legitimate copy should be inside an Adobe product directory or a related Adobe Media Core folder. The path matters more than the filename alone.
If the error names Premiere Pro, repair Premiere Pro. If it names Audition, repair Audition. Do not install a DLL into a shared Windows folder in an attempt to satisfy an unrelated application.
Fix 2: Update the affected Adobe application
An interrupted update is the most common practical explanation for a missing or mismatched Adobe DLL.
- Open the Creative Cloud desktop application.
- Select Apps or Updates.
- Find the Adobe application named in the error.
- Select Update.
- Wait for the installation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the application again.
A successful repair usually means the application reaches its normal start screen instead of stopping at Media Core initialization. If the update fails, the app still reports the same missing file, or Creative Cloud does not offer the needed repair, continue with a reinstall.
Do not assume that installing the newest available release is always appropriate. Adobe availability depends on the product, account, and current support policy. Install the same product family and architecture that the affected project or plug-in requires.
Fix 3: Uninstall and reinstall the owning Adobe app
This is the definitive fix when the DLL is missing, corrupt, or mixed with files from another Adobe release.
- Open Creative Cloud.
- Select Apps > All Apps.
- Find the affected Adobe application.
- Select the More actions button beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- When prompted, choose whether to retain or remove preferences.
- Restart Windows after removal completes.
- Open Creative Cloud again.
- Install the same Adobe application.
- Start it before adding third-party plug-ins or restoring custom settings.
Choose to remove preferences when the crash began after an update or configuration change. Retain them only when preserving workspace layouts and settings is important, and test again before assuming the old preferences are healthy.

If Creative Cloud itself is malfunctioning, use its uninstall process and select Repair when that option is offered. If repair fails, remove and reinstall Creative Cloud, then reinstall the affected Adobe application. Adobe applications should be removed before removing the Creative Cloud desktop application.
If the application works immediately after reinstalling but fails again after restoring plug-ins, one of those plug-ins or its cache is the likely trigger.
Fix 4: Reset Adobe preferences, plug-ins, and media cache
A missing-file dialog is not the only way this problem appears. Adobe may have the DLL but crash while loading Media Core because preferences, plug-ins, or cached media data are damaged.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor Premiere Pro:
- Close Premiere Pro.
- Hold
Ctrl,Alt, orShiftwhile launching it. - Use the startup dialog to reset preferences or plug-in caches.
- Start Premiere with third-party plug-ins disabled if that option is shown.
- Test the application with a new or empty project.
Premiere preferences are commonly stored under a path like:
C:Users<username>DocumentsAdobePremiere Pro<version>Profile-<profilename>
Do not delete this folder before making a backup. Rename it instead, for example:
Profile-<profilename>.old
Then start Premiere again. If it opens, the old profile was damaged. Recreate settings gradually rather than copying every old file back at once.
For other Adobe applications, use their own preference-reset or cache controls. A crash specifically at “Initializing Media Core” is a strong reason to test without third-party audio, video, or format plug-ins.
Fix 5: Check Windows Security quarantine
Windows Security may have isolated the DLL after an update or scan.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Open Protection history.
- Find the event involving
ASLMessaging.dll. - Expand it and inspect the original file path.
- Confirm that the path belongs to a genuine Adobe installation.
- If it is clearly legitimate, use Restore or Allow on device only when you understand the risk.
- Restart Windows and test the Adobe application.
Reinstalling the Adobe application is preferable to restoring an isolated DLL. A file that repeatedly returns to quarantine should not be repeatedly restored. Verify the Adobe installer source, remove unofficial modified software, and run a full security scan.
A legitimate filename is not proof that a file is safe. Malware can use the same name, particularly when it is placed outside the normal Adobe installation directory.
Fix 6: Match 32-bit and 64-bit files
Architecture mismatches can produce missing-file errors, loader errors, or the generic “not designed to run on Windows” message.
A 32-bit Adobe application needs its 32-bit companion DLL. A 64-bit application needs the 64-bit build. Do not copy a file from an older Adobe release, another computer, or a different product.
The correct repair is to reinstall the application so Adobe deploys a matched set of binaries. Manually replacing only ASLMessaging.dll can turn a clear missing-file error into a less obvious dependency or entry-point failure.
Do not copy the file to System32 or SysWOW64. Those folders are not a repair location for this Adobe component.
Fix 7: Install Visual C++ only when the error names it
ASLMessaging.dll itself is not the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. A runtime problem becomes more plausible when the error also names a file such as:

Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads and install the architecture required by the Adobe application. Some systems need both x86 and x64 packages because different applications use different architectures.

After installation:
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Adobe application.
- If the same
ASLMessaging.dllerror remains, return to the Adobe repair path.
Do not install random runtime bundles from third-party download pages. DirectX, .NET, and registry-cleaner utilities are not normal fixes for this Adobe DLL.
Fix 8: Repair Windows components when evidence points to Windows
Windows repair commands can correct damaged protected system components, but they do not reinstall Adobe’s proprietary DLL. Use them when multiple unrelated applications show system-file errors, Windows Update is damaged, or system corruption is otherwise suspected.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Adobe application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run the commands again, then focus on the Adobe installation if the DLL error remains.

Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds; its full version performs the repair, but reinstalling the Adobe application remains the definitive fix for this file.
Also install pending Windows updates:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Choose Check for updates.
- Select Download & install for available updates.
- Restart when prompted.
Fix 9: Update media-related drivers only when symptoms support it
A graphics, audio, or chipset driver does not normally restore ASLMessaging.dll. Driver work is relevant when the Adobe crash began immediately after a driver change, several media applications fail, or Event Viewer points to a display or audio module rather than the Adobe DLL.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and System devices.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Adobe application.
If the problem began after a driver update, open the device’s Properties > Driver tab and use Roll Back Driver when available. Obtain manual drivers from the hardware manufacturer, not from a DLL download site.
Manually hunting through several driver versions can be tedious when the failing module is unclear. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify stale drivers; installation is handled by the full version, and Adobe application repair is still the correct fix when ASLMessaging.dll itself is missing.

Why you should not download this DLL separately
Random DLL download sites create several risks:
- The file may contain malware.
- It may be the wrong Adobe release.
- It may be 32-bit when the application needs 64-bit, or the reverse.
- It may depend on other matching Adobe binaries.
- The download may hide the actual cause, such as a failed update or quarantine event.
- Copying it to
System32can create version conflicts.
There is no verified official standalone Adobe download for aslmessaging.dll, and Microsoft does not distribute it as a Windows component. The safe source is the official Adobe installation managed through Creative Cloud. A manual replacement is defensible only from a verified backup of the same Adobe installation and version, followed by application repair or reinstall.
Should you run regsvr32?
No, not as a routine fix.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. An internal Adobe Media Core runtime is not automatically a self-registering component. Running the command can produce another error without repairing the missing dependency.
Use Adobe’s installer to deploy this DLL instead.

Advanced checks if reinstalling does not help
If the error survives a clean reinstall:
- Recheck the exact path shown in the error.
- Look in Event Viewer for the faulting module and application version.
- Check Adobe crash reports for a different failing module.
- Temporarily remove third-party plug-ins.
- Test the application from a new Windows user profile.
- Check whether the file is being loaded from an old, nonstandard Adobe directory.
- If the failure began recently and a suitable restore point exists, consider System Restore as a fallback.
If Creative Cloud no longer offers the older Adobe version you need, availability may depend on the product, account, and Adobe’s current policy. Do not substitute a DLL from another release.
