ASUS’s ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is a real, commercially released gaming monitor, but its headline specification needs context: it reaches 720Hz only at 1280×720 resolution. At its full 2560×1440 resolution, it runs at 540Hz. ASUS calls it the world’s fastest OLED gaming monitor, although LG sells a closely comparable dual-mode OLED with the same 1440p/540Hz and 720p/720Hz configuration.
What the ASUS PG27AQWP-W actually offers
The PG27AQWP-W is best understood as a 26.5-inch-class, 1440p 540Hz OLED monitor with a 720Hz HD mode—not as a 1440p monitor that can run at 720Hz.

| Mode | Resolution | Maximum refresh rate | Refresh interval | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QHD | 2560×1440 | 540Hz | About 1.85ms | High-detail competitive gaming |
| HD | 1280×720 | 720Hz | About 1.39ms | Extreme esports and aim training |
Those refresh intervals describe how often the panel can begin another refresh; they are not guarantees of total system latency. A game must also render and deliver frames quickly enough for the higher refresh rate to matter.
ASUS announced availability on November 6, 2025. Its announcement and product page describe the monitor’s dual-mode operation as QHD at 540Hz or HD at 720Hz.

Why the “world’s fastest OLED” claim needs qualification
“World’s fastest OLED gaming monitor” is an ASUS marketing claim, not an uncontested industry title. The LG UltraGear 27GX790B-B offers the same basic headline combination: 2560×1440 at 540Hz and 1280×720 at 720Hz. RTINGS’ comparison identifies the two monitors as direct competitors from the same Tandem OLED panel family.
ASUS may be using launch timing, market availability or a narrower product-positioning definition for its “fastest” wording. The defensible conclusion is that the PG27AQWP-W is among the fastest OLED monitors available, while its absolute ranking depends on how competing products and resolutions are compared.
Key specifications
- Panel: Tandem TrueBlack Glossy OLED, also described in current retail material as a fourth-generation WOLED design.
- Size: 26.5-inch viewable area, commonly marketed as 27 inches.
- Modes: 2560×1440 at 540Hz or 1280×720 at 720Hz.
- Response-time claim: 0.02ms gray-to-gray. This is a manufacturer specification, not a measurement of complete input latency.
- HDR: VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black.
- Colour: ASUS lists 99.5% DCI-P3 coverage and Delta E below 2.
- Adaptive sync: G-SYNC compatibility, with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro also identified in retail material.
- Mounting: 100×100mm VESA support.
- Power: ASUS lists consumption below 55W under its stated conditions.
ASUS says the Tandem OLED design delivers 15% higher brightness, 25% greater colour volume and 60% longer OLED lifespan than previous-generation WOLED panels. These are ASUS’s comparative claims, not independent test results.

Why DisplayPort 2.1a matters
The monitor includes one DisplayPort 2.1a input with full UHBR20 support and 80Gbps bandwidth. ASUS positions this connection for high-bandwidth, uncompressed QHD output at 540Hz. It also has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and a headphone output.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Having a high-bandwidth input does not guarantee that every computer can use every maximum mode. Before buying, check that:
- Your graphics card has a suitable DisplayPort 2.1 output if you want to target the full-bandwidth QHD mode.
- You are using the supplied or an appropriately certified high-bandwidth cable.
- The monitor is connected directly to the GPU, not through an incompatible dock, adapter, KVM or older receiver.
- Your operating system and graphics driver expose the required refresh rate.
- The game is configured for the intended resolution and refresh rate.
- HDR and adaptive-sync settings do not alter the available mode list.
The exact result still depends on the GPU, driver, cable and display configuration. The monitor’s DisplayPort specification alone cannot guarantee 1440p at 540Hz or 720p at 720Hz on a particular system.
Does 720Hz make a practical difference?
It can, but only for a narrow audience. Games such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Overwatch 2, Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League, along with lightweight aim trainers, are the most plausible use cases. A powerful PC may render these games at frame rates high enough to make an extreme-refresh mode relevant.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If a game is running at 300fps, the monitor can refresh more frequently, but the system is not delivering a new rendered frame for every refresh. Frame pacing, game-engine limits, CPU performance and latency settings remain important.

- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
For most players, 1440p at 540Hz is likely to be the better everyday mode. It preserves substantially more image detail while still offering a refresh rate far beyond what most gaming monitors provide. The 720Hz setting is an experimental or specialist option for players who value the smallest possible refresh interval over resolution.
At 27 inches, 1280×720 will look noticeably soft, particularly on the desktop or when viewed from a normal close monitor distance. That is an expected trade-off rather than a panel defect.
OLED benefits—and the ownership compromises
OLED is a natural fit for high-refresh gaming because its pixels can change state extremely quickly. It also provides deep blacks, strong contrast and a glossy TrueBlack presentation that can look vivid in controlled lighting.

The glossy finish can reflect windows and room lights, however. OLED also remains vulnerable to image retention and burn-in under some usage patterns. The PG27AQWP-W includes ASUS OLED Care Pro features such as pixel cleaning, pixel shifting, logo-brightness adjustment and other panel-protection tools. Its Neo Proximity Sensor can help reduce activity or protect the screen when the user moves away.

These features reduce risk; they do not make the panel burn-in-proof. For longer ownership:
- Keep automatic OLED protection enabled unless you understand the trade-off.
- Allow pixel-cleaning cycles to finish.
- Use screen savers and display-sleep settings.
- Avoid leaving fixed desktop elements at maximum brightness for unnecessarily long periods.
- Check the burn-in and brightness coverage in the warranty for your country.
- Review a retailer’s dead-pixel, return and extended-warranty terms before purchase.
Warranty terms are geography- and policy-dependent, so ASUS’s regional support page and the retailer’s written policy should take priority over general assumptions.

Price and availability
During the research period, a U.S. Best Buy listing showed the ASUS PG27AQWP-W at $1,099.99. That is a dated retail price signal, not a guaranteed permanent MSRP or worldwide price. Check the current retailer listing for stock, seller, delivery date and return terms, and use ASUS’s specification page for the current feature list.
Who should buy it?
The PG27AQWP-W makes sense if you:
- Play competitive PC games at very high frame rates.
- Want OLED contrast and response characteristics.
- Have a compatible high-bandwidth GPU and cable.
- Can afford a roughly $1,100 monitor.
- Understand that 720Hz means 720p.
- Are willing to use OLED-care features and sensible static-content habits.
Look elsewhere if you:
- Mainly play modern AAA games at high image quality.
- Rarely exceed 240–360fps.
- Want strong desktop text clarity, 4K resolution or maximum value.
- Dislike the softness of 720p at 27 inches.
- Use the display for long, static office workloads.
- Primarily play on a console.
A 240Hz, 360Hz or 480Hz OLED will usually offer a more balanced resolution-to-performance ratio for mixed gaming. Fast LCD monitors remain worth considering for buyers who prioritise lower cost, bright-room usability or avoiding OLED burn-in concerns.

The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is technologically extreme, but its headline must be read correctly. It is a genuine 1440p 540Hz OLED that switches to 720Hz at 720p, not a 1440p 720Hz display. For elite competitive players with a very high-frame-rate PC, that unusual HD mode may be compelling. For most buyers, the monitor should be judged primarily as a premium 540Hz QHD OLED, with 720Hz treated as a specialised bonus rather than a necessity.
