ASUS announced the 2025 TUF Gaming A14, model family FA401KM, on April 18, 2025. Its headline configuration combines an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU and a 14-inch 2560×1600 display with a 165Hz refresh rate, all in a chassis weighing about 1.46kg.
The compact design and high-quality display are the main attractions. The important caveats are the relatively high observed U.S. price, soldered memory, heat and fan noise under load, and configuration differences between regional SKUs. This article concerns the 2025 FA401KM—not the newer 2026 TUF Gaming A14 FA401GM.

What the Ryzen AI 7 350 adds
The Ryzen AI 7 350 is an eight-core, 16-thread processor with an integrated NPU rated by ASUS at up to 50 TOPS. That hardware supports local AI workloads, compatible Windows features and communication or productivity tools without making the RTX GPU handle every AI task.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →However, the AI branding should not be mistaken for a direct gaming-performance guarantee. In games, the RTX 5060, its configured power limit, cooling system and software settings matter far more than the NPU. Copilot+ experiences and other AI features can also vary by region, software version and device configuration.
RTX 5060 gaming performance
The laptop RTX 5060 includes 8GB of GDDR7 memory and is listed by ASUS at up to 110W TGP in Manual Mode. That is a meaningful specification because laptop GPUs with the same name can perform differently at different power limits and in different chassis.
The GPU supports RTX 50-series features including DLSS 4, Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction. These can improve perceived smoothness or image quality in supported games, but generated frames should be distinguished from the frames rendered natively by the GPU.
In Tom’s Guide’s review testing, the RTX 5060 configuration scored 8,331 in its 3DMark test. The review recorded 32.33 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra, 39.5 fps in Red Dead Redemption 2 at 1080p Ultra and 99 fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p.

- READY FOR ANYTHING – Power through your day with Windows 11 Home, an AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 Processor with Radeon 8060S integrated graphics.
- FAST MEMORY AND STORAGE – Multitask quickly with unified 32GB of LPDDR5X 8000 quad-channel memory, and enjoy faster load times with a 1TB PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD.
- QUAD-CHANNEL UNIFIED MEMORY DESIGN - The A14’s unified memory design dynamically allocates its quad-channel memory between system RAM and VRAM. This lets you boost graphics performance when gaming or prioritize memory for demanding creative and productivity workloads.
- NEVER MISS A MOMENT – Keep up with the pros thanks to its 2.5K 165Hz display with 3ms response time
- BLOW AWAY THE COMPETITION – High core count CPUs create more heat when at full load. The TUF Gaming A14 is equipped with a redesigned keyboard to increase airflow and reduce surface temperatures with an upgraded pair of 97-blade fans.
Those are measurements from one review unit and test setup, not guarantees for every game. Firmware, drivers, temperature, power mode and game settings all affect results.
What to expect at 2560×1600
The panel’s native 2560×1600 resolution is sharper and more spacious than 1080p, but it also demands more from the RTX 5060. Competitive games and less demanding titles are more likely to take advantage of 165Hz at native resolution. Modern, graphically intensive games may require reduced settings, upscaling, DLSS or a lower render resolution to maintain high frame rates.
In other words, the 165Hz specification describes the screen’s capability—not a promise that every game will run at 165 frames per second.
The 165Hz 2.5K display is a major strength
“2.5K” is marketing shorthand here. The exact resolution is 2560×1600, also commonly called WQXGA. The 16:10 aspect ratio provides more vertical workspace than a conventional 16:9 panel, which benefits documents, coding, timelines and general productivity as well as games.
The announced configuration adds a 165Hz refresh rate, 3ms overdrive response time, G-SYNC support, 100% sRGB coverage and 400-nit brightness. Tom’s Guide measured approximately 393.6 nits average brightness and described the display as smooth and colorful, with approximately 80.8% DCI-P3 coverage on its review unit.
This is a practical advantage for students and creators who want one machine for work and gaming. It is also a more balanced specification than pairing a powerful GPU with a basic 1080p panel.
Portability comes with thermal compromises
At approximately 1.46kg, with dimensions around 31.1×22.7cm and thickness of roughly 1.69–1.99cm, the A14 is considerably easier to carry than many 15- or 16-inch gaming laptops. The 14-inch format makes sense for commuters, students and mobile professionals who still need Windows software and dedicated graphics.

- READY FOR ANYTHING – Dive headfirst into gaming on Windows 11 powered by the Intel Core 5 210H processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 laptop GPU with a Max TGP of 115W and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus.
- SUBTLE STYLING – The TUF Gaming F16 maintains its classic design, boasting a subtle embossed TUF logo on its sleek cover.
- IMMERSIVE VISUALS – The TUF Gaming F16’s FHD 144Hz display with 100% sRGB color draws you into the action. Adaptive-Sync technology reduces lag, minimizes stuttering, and eliminates visual tearing for ultra-smooth gameplay.
- MILITARY GRADE DURABILITY – As a TUF gaming machine, the F16 has been rigorously tested to meet Military Grade testing standard, MIL-STD-810H. Rest easy knowing this laptop will operate at peak performance in harsh conditions.
- EFFICIENT COOLING – Equipped with Arc Flow Fans, 4 exhaust vents, 5 dedicated heat pipes, and an anti-dust filter, the TUF Gaming F16 optimizes cooling performance without extra noise.
The trade-off is limited thermal space. A thin chassis has less room than a larger gaming laptop for cooling hardware, and the A14 can become warm and loud during sustained gaming. Tom’s Guide recorded a keyboard temperature of about 105.9°F and a hottest point of about 115.7°F in its testing.

Battery life: good for work, not for unplugged gaming
Tom’s Guide recorded 11 hours and 10 minutes in its web-browsing battery test. That suggests the 73Wh battery can support a useful day of lighter productivity, although real-world results vary with brightness, background software, wireless use and power settings.
The same review recorded 1 hour and 45 minutes in its 3DMark gaming battery test. This distinction is important: the web-browsing figure should not be interpreted as gaming endurance. Like most gaming laptops, the A14 is primarily a plugged-in gaming machine.

The announced 16GB of LPDDR5X memory is onboard. PC Gamer identifies the memory as soldered and non-upgradable, so buyers cannot later replace it with a larger kit.

ASUS lists selected models with up to 32GB, making the purchase configuration particularly important. Choose 32GB at the outset if you expect to run large creative projects, virtual machines, development tools, demanding multitasking or the laptop for many years.
Storage is more accommodating. The launch configuration includes a 1TB SSD and an additional M.2 2280 slot. ASUS notes that the second slot is limited to PCIe 4.0×2 speeds on Ryzen AI 7 350 systems because of platform limitations. It remains useful for adding games and files, but it should not be treated as a full-speed PCIe 4.0×4 slot.

Price and value
Best Buy listed the U.S. FA401KM-DS74 configuration at $1,699.99 on the retailer page examined for this coverage. PC Gamer also identified a roughly $1,700 price for its review configuration. This is a retailer price signal, not a permanent worldwide MSRP; promotions, stock, taxes, warranty terms and regional configurations can change.
At that price, the A14 is not an obvious performance-per-dollar winner. Larger RTX 5060 laptops may offer stronger cooling, more power or a lower price because they do not have to fit the same 14-inch, 1.46kg design. The A14’s justification is its combination of portability, display quality, build and dedicated graphics.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsA larger Lenovo LOQ or Acer Nitro model may make more sense for buyers prioritizing raw value. The ROG Zephyrus G14 is a more premium 14-inch alternative, but it generally targets a higher price tier.
Do not confuse it with the 2026 TUF Gaming A14
ASUS also lists a 2026 TUF Gaming A14, model FA401GM, with a Ryzen AI 9 465 processor and an RTX 5060 listed at up to 115W. It is a different generation and configuration. Current search results can mix it with the 2025 FA401KM, so check the model number before comparing prices or specifications.
The 2025 product discussed here is the Ryzen AI 7 350/RTX 5060 model announced on April 18, 2025. Details for the 2026 version should not be used as though they describe this laptop.
Who should buy the 2025 TUF Gaming A14?
- Good fit: students, commuters and mobile professionals who want RTX 5060 gaming in a laptop around 3.2lb.
- Good fit: buyers who value a sharp 16:10 display, high refresh rate and strong everyday portability.
- Good fit: users comfortable gaming mainly while plugged in and adding storage later.
- Poor fit: buyers who need replaceable RAM or expect to upgrade from 16GB later.
- Poor fit: shoppers focused primarily on maximum gaming performance per dollar.
- Poor fit: users who need a large desktop-replacement screen or quiet operation during sustained gaming.
- Poor fit: anyone expecting maximum settings at native 2560×1600 in every new AAA game.
Verdict
The 2025 ASUS TUF Gaming A14 FA401KM is a compelling portability-first gaming laptop. Its 1.46kg chassis, 165Hz 2560×1600 display and RTX 5060 make it unusually capable for a 14-inch machine, while the Ryzen AI 7 350 adds modern CPU and local-AI capabilities.
It is less compelling as a pure value purchase at the observed $1,699.99 U.S. price. Before buying, verify the exact SKU, confirm whether it has 16GB or 32GB of soldered memory, and compare it with larger RTX 5060 laptops available at the same price. For buyers who specifically want a light 14-inch gaming laptop, the A14 is worth considering—especially at a discount—but its portability is what you are paying for.
