Verdict: The ASUS TUF Gaming T500 is worth considering if you want a compact, ready-to-use gaming desktop with a discrete graphics card. It is less compelling if you prioritize a socketed desktop CPU, quiet sustained cooling, abundant rear connectivity, or easy long-term upgrades.
There is one essential catch: “T500” is a product family, not one fixed specification. The 2025 Intel-based T500/T500MV and the newer 2026 AMD-based T500/TM500 can have different processors, graphics cards, power supplies, dimensions, ports, and storage arrangements. Check the complete model number before comparing prices or performance.

First, identify the exact T500
Do not buy from the name alone. Look for the full model code, such as T500MV for the 2025 Intel family or TM500MH for the 2026 AMD family. Retailer suffixes can also change the GPU, memory, SSD, operating system, PSU, and included accessories.
ASUS announced the 2025 TUF Gaming T500 with mobile-class Intel processors such as the Core i5-13420H and Core i7-13620H, plus RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti options. ASUS’s current global specification page lists 2026 TM500 systems with Ryzen 7 260 or Ryzen 5 220 processors and a much wider range of GPUs, including the RTX 5060 Ti, RTX 5060, RTX 5050, RTX 3050, and Radeon RX 9060 XT.

“Up to 64GB” describes supported capacity, not the memory installed in every machine. Likewise, two M.2 connectors do not guarantee that the second one is vacant. Confirm the individual listing.
Size: compact, but not portable
The T500 is genuinely smaller than a conventional gaming tower. The 2025 version is approximately 15.5cm wide, 29.6cm tall, and 34.7cm deep, while the global 2026 specifications list a slightly deeper and taller chassis. Weight is around 6kg.
That makes it suitable for a modest desk or an open TV stand, but it is not a laptop substitute. You still need a monitor or television, keyboard, mouse, and power cable. Measure depth with rear cable clearance included, and leave open space around the intake and exhaust areas.
Do not place the T500 tightly inside an entertainment cabinet. A confined shelf can recirculate hot air and turn a reasonable compact design into a sustained-temperature problem. The machine should sit where its vents can breathe, especially during long gaming sessions.
Gaming performance depends mainly on the GPU
The T500 can be a serious 1080p or 1440p gaming machine when equipped with an RTX 5060 Ti or RX 9060 XT, but the family also includes substantially weaker RTX 5050 and RTX 3050 configurations. Treating all of them as equivalent would be misleading.

RTX 5060 Ti
This is the most convincing configuration documented in review coverage. WIRED’s tested RTX 5060 Ti model delivered roughly 60–90 frames per second at 1080p in its evaluated games. It exceeded 60fps in Helldivers 2 and reached more than 90fps in Marvel Rivals at 1440p.
Those results support high-refresh 1080p play and sensible 1440p settings. They are not universal T500 benchmarks: an RTX 5060, RTX 5050, RTX 3050, or Radeon-equipped system can perform differently, as can a different CPU, memory arrangement, driver version, or power limit.

RTX 5060
An RTX 5060 T500 is best understood as a strong 1080p system with entry-level to moderate 1440p capability. Demanding games may require reduced settings, upscaling, or frame generation. Do not use RTX 5060 Ti review results as a guarantee for this model.
RTX 5050 and RTX 3050
These are lower-tier choices. They may make sense at a substantially lower price, but buyers should expect a larger compromise in demanding AAA games and should be particularly cautious about pairing them with an expensive high-refresh or 4K monitor.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
The 2026 global specifications and an ASUS Japan listing document a TM500 configuration with a 16GB Radeon RX 9060 XT. That larger VRAM capacity may appeal to buyers focused on traditional rasterized gaming, but the available dossier does not establish model-specific benchmark results. Judge this version by its exact price and independent testing rather than assuming it matches an RTX-equipped T500.
The 2025 model’s mobile CPU is a real compromise
The 2025 T500’s Core i7-13620H is a laptop-oriented processor installed in a desktop chassis. This helps ASUS keep power consumption and physical size under control, but it is not equivalent to a full-power desktop Core i7 or a modern socketed desktop Ryzen processor.
For GPU-limited 1080p and 1440p gaming, the processor can be adequate. The compromise becomes more significant in CPU-heavy strategy and simulation games, high-refresh competitive gaming, streaming, compiling, and sustained productivity workloads.
Windows Central reported thermal-throttling concerns with its tested mobile-Core-i7 configuration and criticized the value and upgrade path. That finding should be attributed to the tested configuration, not generalized to every T500. The 2026 AMD TM500 models use a different platform and should be evaluated separately.

Cooling and noise: acceptable acoustics, limited headroom
Compact hardware always has less room for airflow than a larger tower. WIRED found its 2025 unit relatively quiet under load but warm, with a single 90mm rear fan doing much of the airflow work. It also warned that installing a higher-end GPU could worsen thermal conditions.
Windows Central’s experience was more critical, citing thermal throttling in its tested configuration. The differing reports are a useful reminder that GPU, firmware, room temperature, fan behavior, PSU, and exact SKU all matter.

- 3.6-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
A system can be quiet while still running hot. For long sessions, sustained clocks and frame-time consistency matter more than a short average-fps result. Keep the T500 in open air, avoid blocking its intake, and do not assume that a physically compatible graphics-card upgrade will have adequate cooling.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat can you upgrade?
The T500 is upgradeable in limited, useful ways, but it is not a standard DIY desktop.
- Memory: Two SO-DIMM slots support up to 64GB according to ASUS. Use laptop-style DDR5 SO-DIMMs, not ordinary desktop DIMMs, and check the installed module arrangement and supported speed for the exact SKU.
- Storage: Two M.2 connectors are documented, although one may already be occupied and some listings may differ. The ASUS Japan TM500 listing identifies one free connector on that particular configuration.
- Graphics: A replacement GPU may be possible, but clearance, the card’s power requirements, PSU capacity, cooling, firmware, and the slot arrangement all impose limits.
- CPU and motherboard: Do not buy the T500 expecting a simple processor, cooler, motherboard, or case replacement later.
The ASUS Japan listing specifies that the supplied graphics slot operates electrically at PCIe 4.0 x8 and is occupied by the included GPU. WIRED also raised concerns about moving the system into another case because of its custom layout and cooling design.
In practical terms, plan to upgrade RAM or add storage—not to transform the T500 into a different class of desktop.
Ports and connectivity
Connectivity is adequate for a basic gaming setup but less generous than on many conventional towers. Documented 2026 specifications include front USB-A and USB-C, rear USB-A, DisplayPort, HDMI, audio, Gigabit Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 6. Exact arrangements vary between generations and SKUs.
WIRED criticized the 2025 model’s rear connectivity, noting that several rear USB-A ports were USB 2.0. A USB hub may be useful if you connect a webcam, microphone, external SSD, headset receiver, controller, racing wheel, and other accessories simultaneously.
When a discrete graphics card is installed, connect the monitor to the GPU’s DisplayPort or HDMI output rather than automatically using a motherboard video output. The exact rear panel differs by model, so check the manual and the ports physically present on your unit.
Setup, software, and included accessories
Windows 11 is included, with Home or Pro depending on region and configuration. Some systems may include an RGB keyboard and mouse, but this is not universal. Confirm the box contents before buying replacements.
WIRED reported McAfee and other preinstalled software on its tested machine. The Windows image can vary by market, so treat that as a configuration-specific observation. After first boot, install current graphics drivers, run Windows Update, check ASUS firmware and utility updates, and remove unwanted trial software if you do not need it.

If the machine arrives with only a 512GB SSD, storage can become a practical limitation after installing several large games. Check whether the exact unit has a vacant M.2 connector before buying a second drive.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Durability claims need context
ASUS markets TUF products around rugged styling and durability. The ASUS Japan TM500 listing cites MIL-STD 810H-related qualification. That is a manufacturer claim about testing requirements, not a promise that every individual desktop is drop-proof, damage-proof, or suitable for abuse.
Use the claim as a small confidence signal, not as a reason to ignore ventilation, careful handling, or the warranty terms for your region.
Value: configuration and discount determine the answer
Historical US review prices illustrate the range but are not current quotations. WIRED reviewed a T500 at approximately $900 through ASUS, while citing other listings around $960 for an RTX 5060 model and $1,294 for another configuration. Windows Central reviewed a model listed at $1,299.99 and cited a lower RTX 5060 configuration at $959.99, discounted to $899.99 at the time.
Those prices belong to the respective review periods and should not be treated as September 2026 US pricing. A Japan ASUS Store listing observed in August 2026 showed a Ryzen 5 220, RX 9060 XT 16GB, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD configuration at ¥159,800, reduced from ¥199,800. That is Japan-specific and should not be converted into a US price or assumed to represent other markets.
The buying rule is straightforward:
- At a substantial discount, the T500 can be a sensible turnkey compact gaming PC.
- Near the price of a standard custom desktop, its mobile or restricted platform, compact cooling, and limited upgrade path become harder to justify.
- Compare complete systems, including Windows, memory, storage, warranty, assembly, and peripherals—not just the graphics card.
- The more expensive the T500, the more closely it should be compared with a larger prebuilt or a custom micro-ATX build using standard desktop parts.
Who should buy the T500?
- First-time PC gamers who want a finished Windows system.
- Console players moving to PC gaming.
- Students and apartment dwellers with limited desk space.
- Living-room gamers who want a small desktop connected to a TV.
- Buyers who value ASUS support and simple setup more than maximum upgrade flexibility.
- Anyone who finds the exact CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, and PSU configuration at a strong discount.
Who should skip it?
- DIY builders who want standard ATX or micro-ATX parts.
- Players of CPU-heavy simulations or competitive games at very high refresh rates.
- Users planning future CPU, motherboard, cooler, and case upgrades.
- Buyers who need extensive rear I/O or many internal expansion options.
- Anyone who can buy a better-cooled conventional desktop for similar money.
- People who need portability; a gaming laptop includes its display, keyboard, battery, and webcam.
Buyer’s checklist
- Record the complete model number, not just “TUF Gaming T500.”
- Confirm the exact CPU and GPU.
- Check installed RAM capacity, number of modules, and whether the system uses SO-DIMMs.
- Confirm SSD capacity and whether a second M.2 connector is free.
- Check PSU wattage and efficiency rating.
- Compare the listed dimensions with your desk or TV stand, including cable clearance.
- Verify the rear ports and wireless standard.
- Confirm Windows edition and included keyboard or mouse.
- Check the warranty and return policy in your country.
- Compare the complete price with a standard prebuilt and a custom desktop.
Alternatives worth considering
A conventional custom-built desktop offers a socketed CPU, standard components, stronger cooling choices, and easier repairs. Its disadvantages are assembly, setup, and troubleshooting.
A gaming laptop is the better choice if you regularly move between rooms, classes, or homes. The T500 may offer a more convenient TV setup and a desktop-style discrete GPU, but it is not portable.
A larger prebuilt desktop is preferable when you want a higher-power CPU, a larger graphics card, more storage bays, or easier future upgrades. Newer ASUS TUF desktop families may also be worth comparing where available, although regional pricing and stock differ.

The ASUS TUF Gaming T500 is a good fit for a specific buyer: someone who wants a compact, low-effort gaming desktop and is willing to accept limited platform upgrades in exchange for a smaller footprint. An RTX 5060 Ti or RX 9060 XT version can be a credible 1080p/1440p gaming machine, while lower-GPU configurations need to be judged on their own price and targets.
It is not the best universal gaming PC. The 2025 model’s mobile CPU, restricted cooling, modest rear I/O, and nonstandard upgrade path matter—especially when the price approaches that of a better-cooled conventional desktop. Buy the T500 only after verifying the exact SKU and confirming that its GPU, PSU, storage, and price match your intended games and display.
