What is Atlantis Studio?
Atlantis Studio is an independent, privately funded French game studio. Its official about page places it in Avignon, in southern France, and describes its creative interests as storytelling and emotionally driven gameplay. The studio emerged from stealth in May 2025, when it announced a focus on immersive games built with Unreal Engine 5 for PC and console.
At the announcement, the first game was already in development, but the studio did not identify it. VentureBeat reported that the team included experience at Ubisoft, Ready At Dawn Studios, and Midgar Studio; it did not disclose the studio’s headcount or funding amount.

Who founded Atlantis Studio?
The studio was co-founded by Ru Weerasuriya and Nico Augusto. VentureBeat identifies Weerasuriya as a former president of Ready At Dawn. Atlantis Studio’s own page describes Weerasuriya’s experience at Blizzard, Ready At Dawn, and Meta, and Augusto’s work as an author, creative director, and entrepreneur. Those career descriptions come from the studio’s biography.
At launch, Weerasuriya said, “We are thrilled to announce the creation of Atlantis Studio in the beautiful South of France region”.
What does the studio’s Unreal Engine 5 focus mean?
Unreal Engine 5 is Epic Games’ real-time 3D creation engine. Its toolset includes technologies such as Nanite, Lumen, and World Partition, alongside animation tools and other features. Atlantis Studio’s 2025 announcement named UE5 as its engine, but the available studio statements do not say which particular engine features it uses in its games. What is Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch?
Beyond the Dark: Nightwatch is Atlantis Studio’s first announced game. It is described as an asymmetric cooperative experience for two players, with communication between them central to surviving. The studio’s Gamescom post frames it as a horror game and highlights trust, communication, and nerves.

“Asymmetric” indicates that the two players do not have identical roles or perspectives, but the studio’s public descriptions do not establish the exact role split, gameplay loop, or horror subgenre. They also do not confirm other platforms or editions.
