No Man’s Sky is the closest broad alternative to ATMOSFAR if you want piloting, discovery and base building, while Astroneer is the gentler sci-fi engineering choice. For the same floating-island and travelling-home fantasy, start with Solarpunk, Everwind or Raft. If the setting matters less than a proven survival-craft loop, Valheim and Palworld are stronger 2026 recommendations.
ATMOSFAR launched into Steam Early Access on 29 October 2026. It combines flight between floating islands, resource management, a mobile airship base and solo or four-player PvE co-op, but its launch review sample is tiny and its systems are still expanding. The list below separates close fantasy matches from better-established survival games so you can choose the right kind of substitute.

What is ATMOSFAR, and what makes it different?
ATMOSFAR is an open-world survival-crafting game on Tycos, a planet made of floating islands. You salvage scrap, process minerals and organics, keep your equipment powered, and investigate the collapse of humanity’s final outpost. Most traversal happens in the air rather than on foot.
Your small aircraft are called Wasps. The launch Early Access build has a Utility Wasp that carries a portable camp, a Hauler Wasp for lifting heavy scrap and a Striker Wasp that can stun enemies. You can upgrade engines, hover modules and hulls, then repaint the craft. A Scout Wasp is planned for later Early Access; earlier announcements used different class names, so the launch roster should not be treated as four currently playable models.

The larger home is the Cloud Cruiser, a customisable mobile airbase with a Wasp hangar, fuel storage, lounge and helm. Sections are expanded as you move from island to island, and a co-op group shares one Cruiser. Survival involves backpack life-support power, fuel and repairs, cooking, research and artifact work. Hydrogen crystals can be mined and refined into fuel, while jet streams, thunderstorms, night, alien wildlife and drones create hazards.
The current build contains two regions with several biomes, three Wasps, a functioning Cloud Cruiser, and solo or online PvE for up to four players. The developer says Early Access will last at least nine months and may run longer. A third region called The Rime, the Scout Wasp, broader Cruiser construction and a story ending are planned additions. Saves are intended to persist through Early Access.

Windows PC through Steam is the confirmed platform, with full controller support and a Steam Deck listing of Playable. No PlayStation, Xbox or Switch edition has been announced. An Epic Games Store listing was reported elsewhere but is not confirmed on the developer’s own pages.
The listed launch price is $24.99, £22.49 or €25.49. A 10% introductory discount runs for the first two weeks; Steam’s European listing showed €22.94 until 12 November 2026, while the launch-day US price was reported as $22.49. The developer has said the price will rise slightly before version 1.0. The official description and current information are on atmosfar.game.
Which games are closest to ATMOSFAR’s flying-island fantasy?
No Man’s Sky — best overall match for exploration and flight
No Man’s Sky is the strongest spiritual comparison when the appeal is leaving a base, flying into the unknown, gathering materials and returning to improve your equipment. It spreads that loop across space stations and procedurally generated planets instead of Tycos’s connected sky islands, and its survival pressure is generally softer than ATMOSFAR’s fuel and life-support management.
Choose it for breadth and discovery: planetary vehicles, spacecraft, construction and multiplayer give you more established systems to explore. Choose ATMOSFAR instead if a single mobile home, weather hazards and short aerial expeditions sound more important than a huge galaxy.
Solarpunk — the closest 2026 setting match
Solarpunk places you on floating islands and lets you fly an airship to distant ones. Its emphasis is cosy survival: build a home, grow food and craft gadgets rather than fight through a harsh extraction loop. It supports solo play and online co-op on PC.
iGame Magazine recorded 81% positive Steam reviews from 1,992 reviews in October 2026. That score reflects a much larger sample than ATMOSFAR’s launch-day 25 reviews, although the games aim for different moods. Pick Solarpunk when sightseeing and low-stress building matter more than hostile creatures, fuel logistics or a colony mystery.

ASTRONEER — friendly engineering without survival tension
ASTRONEER shares ATMOSFAR’s sci-fi curiosity, resource chains, vehicles and co-operative construction. You reshape terrain and build outposts on planets, so the fantasy is engineering a network of small bases rather than maintaining one airship that moves between islands.
Its approachable systems suit players who enjoy automation, terrain projects and exploration without severe weather or combat demands. It is a better fit than ATMOSFAR if you want to experiment at your own pace; ATMOSFAR is the better match for pilots who want flight itself to be the central skill.

Everwind is a first-person sandbox survival game in which the island-ship is both vehicle and home. You build on its surface, gather materials, craft equipment and fight while rising above the clouds. That travelling-home structure is unusually close to the Cloud Cruiser idea, even though its presentation and progression differ.
It entered Early Access on 17 March 2026 and supports solo or online co-op on PC. iGame Magazine recorded 81% positive Steam reviews from 1,743 reviews. Expect an unfinished project: it is a closer setting match than a guarantee of ATMOSFAR’s flight model or story structure.
Raft — the same mobile-home satisfaction on water
Raft replaces sky islands with open ocean, but its central decision is familiar: expand a moving home while venturing away for materials and returning before supplies run out. Its first-person survival-crafting loop makes every storage box, purifier and new deck section part of the journey.
This is the best pivot if the Cloud Cruiser’s customisation is what attracts you. It is not a substitute for aerial manoeuvring, vertical weather or alien islands; it is a substitute for the rhythm of travelling, scavenging and upgrading a home that never stays still.
Which proven survival games are better if the setting is secondary?
Valheim — best co-op survival recommendation
Valheim is the safest recommendation for a group that wants a deep survival-craft game rather than a specific sky setting. Its world is land-based, with sailing as a later traversal option, and progression is structured around biomes, equipment tiers and bosses. Building has practical value, while exploration and preparation create meaningful risk.
iGame Magazine listed Valheim at 94% positive from 267,123 Steam reviews, with a Metascore of 89, and reported its 1.0 release on 9 September 2026. It supports 1–10 players on PC and consoles including Switch 2. Pick it over ATMOSFAR when you want a mature content loop and a larger party; pick ATMOSFAR when four-player aerial co-op and a shared mobile base are the priority.

Palworld — open-world survival with creatures
Palworld combines gathering, base construction and open-world combat with creature collection. Its bases can be staffed by captured creatures, producing a very different rhythm from ATMOSFAR’s manual scrap processing and aircraft maintenance. Exploration is terrestrial, with creatures and combat providing the main source of variety.
Its 2026 figures are 95% positive from 184,735 Steam reviews and a Metascore of 79, according to iGame Magazine; version 1.0 was reported for 9 July 2026. It is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox. Choose it when collection, combat and a broad established player base matter more than flying between islands.

Enshrouded is a land-based survival action RPG whose strongest differentiator is terraformable building. You can reshape the environment around substantial bases, then explore a dangerous world with class-like combat and co-op progression.
iGame Magazine recorded 87% positive Steam reviews from 51,674 reviews, a Metascore of 88, and a 1.0 release on 15 October 2026. It is available on PC and PS5. It is a good alternative for players who want construction depth and combat encounters, but not for someone specifically seeking piloting or a mobile airbase.
Subnautica 2 — alien exploration with a four-player crew
Subnautica 2 keeps the discovery-first structure but moves it underwater. Vehicles, oxygen management, base construction and unfamiliar wildlife make exploration feel like a sequence of expeditions from a carefully prepared home. The four-player co-op limit matches ATMOSFAR’s advertised group size.
It entered Early Access on 14 May 2026 and was listed at 93% positive from 72,882 reviews by iGame Magazine. The confirmed platforms are PC and Xbox Series. Pick it when environmental storytelling and vehicle-based exploration matter more than aerial flight; choose the original underwater game if you specifically want a finished analogue rather than another Early Access project.

The Planet Crafter is a science-fiction survival game built around transforming a barren planet. Gathering resources and expanding your base gradually changes the environment, so the long-term reward is seeing the world become habitable rather than simply unlocking stronger weapons.

Windrose — a ship as a mobile home
Windrose is a pirate open-world survival game where the ship serves as a travelling base. Its oceanic setting and nautical progression are a larger departure from Tycos, but the mobile-home concept is close. iGame Magazine reported 88% positive Steam reviews from 28,924 reviews and sales of two million copies in its first months.
Abiotic Factor — co-op survival in a sci-fi workplace
Abiotic Factor offers co-op survival-crafting in a science-fiction workplace-horror environment. It matches ATMOSFAR’s resource gathering and group survival more than its tone or traversal, making it suitable for players who want a stronger narrative premise and stranger hazards.
Nightingale — survival-crafting in fae realms
Nightingale is another co-op survival-craft option, set across fae realms rather than floating islands. It is worth considering for players who value portal-based exploration and a fantasy atmosphere, but it does not reproduce ATMOSFAR’s aircraft handling or shared airbase.
GRAV, EverRail and other loose matches
GRAV is an older, inexpensive floating-island survival game that can work as a budget curiosity, but key-shop prices change and should not be confused with a Steam list price. Can your PC run ATMOSFAR?
ATMOSFAR’s minimum GPU requirement is high for a survival-crafting game. Steam lists Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-7500 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, 8 GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, DirectX 11 and 25 GB of storage. Internet access is required for multiplayer.
The recommended specification is Windows 11 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-14700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 16 GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 or AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT, DirectX 12 and 50 GB of storage. Is ATMOSFAR worth buying in Early Access?
Buy it now if the combination of aerial exploration, a customisable mobile base and four-player PvE is the specific experience you want, and you are comfortable with unfinished content. The current build already has two regions, three Wasps and a complete basic Cruiser, while the Rime region, Scout Wasp, expanded construction and story ending are still planned.
Wait if you want a settled progression loop or a broad review consensus. Steam showed 52% positive from 25 user reviews at launch, a sample too small and too volatile to compare fairly with long-running games such as Valheim or Palworld. Rock Paper Shotgun’s launch report praised the aerial exploration but found the early extract-and-return survival routine humdrum, which is a useful warning about the opening hours rather than a permanent verdict.
