Yes. In Outlook on the web, new Outlook, and Outlook.com, open Settings > Mail > Forwarding, turn on Enable forwarding, enter your Gmail address, optionally select Keep a copy of forwarded messages, and choose Save. This sends new messages delivered to Outlook to Gmail.
Use an Inbox rule instead when you need conditions, exceptions, multiple actions, or a different reply path. The important choice is whether to use forward or redirect: forwarding presents the message as sent on by your Outlook account, while redirecting preserves the original sender and normally keeps replies addressed to that sender.

How do I automatically forward Outlook emails to Gmail?
The shortest setup is Outlook’s built-in Forwarding page. It runs on Microsoft’s servers, so Outlook does not need to remain open after you save the setting.
Outlook on the web or new Outlook
- Sign in to Outlook.
- Open Settings.
- Select Mail > Forwarding.
- Turn on Enable forwarding.
- Enter the Gmail address that should receive the messages.
- Select Keep a copy of forwarded messages if you still need the originals in Outlook.
- Select Save.
Microsoft describes this setting as enabling automatic forwarding or redirecting of messages sent to your mailbox to another account. The direct setting is designed for all new mail delivered to that mailbox; it is not a migration tool for messages that are already sitting in folders.

Outlook.com consumer accounts
Outlook.com uses the same path: Settings > Mail > Forwarding, then Enable forwarding, the Gmail destination, and Save. If two-step verification is not enabled on the Microsoft account, Outlook.com may require you to enable or complete an identity check before forwarding can be turned on. Finish that prompt, return to Forwarding, and save the setting again.

The desktop application uses a rule rather than the web Forwarding page:

- Open Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule.
- Start with Apply rule on messages I receive.
- Leave the conditions blank if every incoming message should be handled.
- Choose redirect it to people or public group for a redirect, or choose the available forward action for ordinary forwarding.
- Enter the Gmail address.
- Complete the rule, select whether to run it on existing messages if Outlook offers that option, and apply it.
The exact action names can vary slightly by Outlook build, but the distinction remains: the web Forwarding page is a mailbox-wide setting, while a classic Outlook rule can evaluate each incoming message.
Should I forward or redirect Outlook mail to Gmail?
Choose forward when you mainly want a convenient copy in Gmail. Choose redirect when Gmail should treat the original Outlook sender as the sender and replies should normally go back to that person.

The visible sender and reply destination are not cosmetic details. If you are monitoring an address but want to answer correspondents directly, redirect is generally the cleaner choice. If you simply want an additional Gmail view and do not mind replies being addressed to the forwarding account, ordinary forwarding is simpler.

How do I keep a copy in Outlook after forwarding?
On the Forwarding page, select Keep a copy of forwarded messages before saving. That leaves the delivered message available in Outlook while a copy is sent to Gmail.

Retention has a storage consequence: every retained item continues to count toward the Outlook mailbox limit. Microsoft warns that forwarding can stop when the mailbox reaches its limit. If that happens, delete or archive unneeded mail, empty folders that still consume quota, and then check that the forwarding setting or rule is still enabled.
A rule-based workflow behaves similarly. A rule that forwards or redirects without a move or delete action normally leaves the original in the mailbox. Review the complete rule action list so a later action is not silently removing the item you expected to retain.
How can I forward only certain Outlook messages?
Use an Inbox rule instead of the mailbox-wide Forwarding switch. Rules let you target messages by criteria and add exceptions, which is safer when only a project, sender, subject, or category should reach Gmail.
Create a selective rule in classic Outlook
- Go to Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts > New Rule.
- Select Apply rule on messages I receive.
- Choose one or more conditions, such as a sender or subject characteristic, then supply the requested values.
- Select the forwarding action or redirect it to people or public group, and enter the Gmail address.
- Add exceptions if some messages must stay in Outlook.
- Review any stop processing more rules option. Rule order can affect whether another rule also handles the same message.
- Finish and apply the rule.
Leaving every condition blank targets all incoming messages, so do that only when you really want rule-based forwarding for the entire mailbox. A condition-based rule is also the practical route when the direct Forwarding page is unavailable but Outlook still permits personal rules.

What changes for a Microsoft 365 work or school account?
An organization can control external forwarding separately from your personal Outlook settings. A Microsoft 365 administrator may configure forwarding in the Microsoft 365 admin center, specify an external destination such as Gmail, and decide whether a copy remains in the mailbox.
Outbound spam-filter policies can also restrict automatic forwarding to external recipients. Consequently, a missing Forwarding option, a setting that will not save, or a rule that never sends outside the organization may be an intentional tenant policy rather than a mistake in your steps.
Ask your administrator to confirm that external automatic forwarding is allowed for your account and destination. Do not attempt to bypass the policy with repeated rules; an administrator-controlled block will continue to apply.
How do I verify that forwarding works?
Send a new test message to the Outlook address from a separate account, then check Gmail for delivery. Also check Outlook if you selected copy retention. Microsoft specifically recommends checking Gmail’s Spam folder or Outlook’s Junk folder when first verifying forwarding.
No message arrives in Gmail
- Confirm that Enable forwarding is still on and that the Gmail address has no typo.
- Check Gmail Spam and any relevant filtered folders.
- Check Outlook Junk and mailbox storage. A full mailbox can stop rules from working.
- For a work or school account, ask whether external forwarding is blocked by an administrator or outbound spam policy.
- Send another test after correcting the setting; rules act on newly delivered messages.
Outlook asks for verification
On Outlook.com, a two-step-verification prompt can appear when forwarding is enabled. Complete the Microsoft identity check, return to Settings > Mail > Forwarding, and select Save again.

The message arrives but replies go to the wrong address
That is expected with ordinary forwarding: Microsoft says forwarded messages appear to be forwarded from you, and replies go to the forwarding address. Replace the forward action with a redirect rule when replies need to follow the original sender.
Only some messages are forwarded
Inspect rule conditions, exceptions, rule order, and any stop-processing action. A rule may intentionally exclude messages, or an earlier rule may handle the message before the forwarding rule sees it.
Can Outlook forward to more than one Gmail address?
Multiple destinations may be limited by account settings. If you need more than one recipient, test the arrangement with a rule that includes the addresses rather than assuming the mailbox-wide Forwarding page will accept every destination.

No special Gmail forwarding configuration is required for Outlook-to-Gmail delivery. The controlling configuration is on the Outlook side; Gmail is the receiving mailbox.

Gmail’s own help for forwarding covers sending mail from Gmail to another account, including destination verification and excluding spam. That is a different direction from this setup, so changing Gmail’s outbound-forwarding settings will not make Outlook forwarding work.
Which Outlook-to-Gmail method should I use?
- Use the Forwarding page when every new Outlook message should reach one Gmail address with minimal setup.
- Enable Keep a copy when Outlook remains an archive or you need access from both services, and monitor mailbox storage.
- Use a forward rule when you want conditions, exceptions, rule ordering, or several actions.
- Use a redirect rule when preserving the original sender and normal reply path matters.
- Contact an administrator when a work or school account hides the setting, refuses to save, or blocks external delivery.
After choosing a method, send a fresh test message and verify both delivery and reply behavior. That single check catches incorrect addresses, spam filtering, rule exclusions, storage limits, and the forward-versus-redirect difference before the workflow becomes part of your daily mail handling.

Will Outlook forward messages that were already in my mailbox?
The mailbox-wide Forwarding setting is intended for messages delivered after it is enabled; it does not retroactively send your existing Inbox history to Gmail. For older mail, use a separate manual export, copy, or migration process rather than expecting the forwarding switch to replay it.
How do I stop the automatic forwarding later?
Return to Settings > Mail > Forwarding, turn off Enable forwarding, and select Save. Disabling the setting stops future automatic deliveries; messages already copied to Gmail or retained in Outlook are not removed.
Can I test forwarding without risking an important conversation?
Send a new message from a separate account with a distinctive subject, then inspect Gmail Inbox and Spam and check the Outlook mailbox if retention is enabled. Reply to the test from Gmail to confirm whether the chosen forward or redirect behavior matches your expectation.
Why does a personal rule work while the Forwarding page is blocked?
The two controls can be governed differently in managed Microsoft 365 tenants. An administrator may disable external mailbox-wide forwarding while still permitting, restricting, or auditing user-created rules, so the tenant policy determines what is actually available.
