Publishing is distinct from development: the announcement names Avalanche as publisher, while Supermassive remains the studio behind its games. It does not say that the studios are merging, that Avalanche has acquired Supermassive, or that existing publishers or rights holders have been displaced.
Which game is first—and when did it release?
Directive 8020 is the first title named in the arrangement. Supermassive describes it as a space-horror game in The Dark Pictures series and dates its release to May 12, 2026. How Avalanche and Supermassive fit within Nordisk Games
The arrangement expands Avalanche’s publishing role within the Nordisk Games portfolio. GamesMarket says both companies are part of Nordisk; Nordisk’s studio portfolio lists Avalanche Studios Group and Supermassive Games. Supermassive says Nordisk fully acquired it in 2022, and identifies Nordisk as part of Egmont Group; Egmont’s games page provides its group-level context.
The studios have different creative identities. Avalanche Studios Group describes its divisions as Avalanche Studios, Expansive Worlds, and Systemic Reaction, and its portfolio is centered on open-world games. Supermassive describes itself as a storytelling-games studio. Its known games include Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry, and Little Nightmares III. Does Avalanche now publish every Supermassive game?
The report describes a broad global publishing role for Supermassive titles, but does not enumerate every game covered. It also does not explain title-by-title rights, the treatment of existing contracts, platforms, regional rollout, or specific marketing and distribution plans. So the report supports saying that Avalanche is to become Supermassive’s global publisher; it does not establish a complete catalogue or the practical scope of the role for each game.
