In October 2021, an Axie Infinity update announcement said accounts below 800 MMR would no longer earn Smooth Love Potion (SLP) from Adventure, Arena, or the daily quest. Some players objected that this could leave people using weaker or inexpensive “floor Axies” without a way to earn rewards. The policy did not remain the Arena rule: in February 2022, Axie Infinity restored 1 SLP per Arena win for players below 800 MMR. These are historical changes, not a statement of the current reward system.
What the October 2021 announcement said
A Reddit post dated October 15, 2021 reproduced wording attributed to Axie Infinity’s Version 1.1.0a update: accounts under 800 MMR would no longer receive SLP from Adventure, Arena, or the daily quest. The thread is evidence of the announcement wording and players’ reactions, but it is not the original patch-note page and does not establish the complete rollout chronology.
MMR is the rating used to place players in Axie Infinity’s competitive ladder. The threshold mattered because the announced change covered three reward sources, not just Arena. The reproduced wording did not specify a replacement reward for accounts below 800 MMR.
Why players complained about floor Axies
In the contemporaneous Reddit discussion, players raised concerns about weak teams, bots, competition, and the cost or usefulness of “floor Axies”—Axies at the low end of the market. Some worried that a team unable to compete effectively might also be unable to earn SLP under the announced rule.

Those comments show individual reactions, not how most players felt or how the change affected the whole player base. The thread is best read as a record of concerns at the time, rather than as evidence that every low-MMR player used floor Axies or lost access to rewards.
How the rule changed by February 2022
On February 3, 2022, Axie Infinity announced Season 20 economic changes that restored 1 SLP per Arena win for players below 800 MMR. The publisher said the reward could give weaker Axies utility and encourage newer or struggling players to practice. Its February 9 Season 20 announcement described the changes as live and listed the 0–999 MMR bracket at 1 SLP per win.

| Announcement | MMR bracket | Mode and reward stated |
|---|---|---|
| October 2021 wording reproduced in a Reddit thread | Below 800 | Would receive no SLP from Adventure, Arena, or the daily quest |
| February 3, 2022 Season 20 announcement | Below 800 | 1 SLP per Arena win restored |
| February 9, 2022 Season 20 announcement | 0–999 | 1 SLP per Arena win in the published live table |
The two announcements describe different dates and reward policies. The available evidence does not establish the full sequence between October and February, so it would be inaccurate to claim that the October rule definitively took effect everywhere or to state exactly when it was delayed or reversed.
Why Axie Infinity said it was changing SLP rewards
Axie Infinity framed the changes as economic balancing intended to address SLP supply and demand. In its February 3, 2022 announcement, the publisher described SLP as being created at “around 4x more” per day than was being burned through breeding. It also said that, at the time, roughly 40% of SLP came from Adventure, roughly 44% from PvP, and roughly 14% from daily-quest claims. These are historical figures reported by the publisher, not current measurements or independently verified outcomes.

A January 2022 development journal offered further context. Axie Infinity said SLP creation had historically outpaced use and reported that the average amount burned per day had grown more than 500-fold through 2021. It also reported that average SLP per PvP battle rose about 40% from the first to the last day of Season 19. These figures describe the publisher’s account of its historical data; they should not be read as evidence of today’s token economy.
In February, the publisher paired broader reward reductions with the Arena exception for players below 800 MMR. It said Adventure and daily-quest SLP rewards would be removed as part of the balancing changes, while the Arena win reward would return for the lowest bracket. The stated aim was to give weaker Axies some utility and let players practice while learning or having difficulty with the game.

The complaint arose from an October 2021 announcement that proposed removing SLP below 800 MMR across Adventure, Arena, and the daily quest. By the February 2022 Season 20 changes, players in the lowest published Arena bracket could earn 1 SLP per win. Neither historical announcement should be used to infer Axie Infinity’s present-day reward rules.
