What should I do before changing emulator or handheld?
Do not uninstall, update, or reset the current setup until you have identified what you have and copied the data you may need. Make the decision from the exact device, system, and emulator build—not from a product listing or a bundled-app description.
- Record the setup. Write down the handheld’s full model name, operating system, emulator name, exact build or version, and the wording and source of the support notice. Note whether the app came from the emulator project, the device vendor, or another distributor.

In particular, “Not Tested” does not establish that a game works or fails; the tracker has no reported result for it. A poor game result also does not, by itself, prove that the handheld has lost official support. Keep the device-support question and the title-compatibility question distinct when deciding whether a replacement is necessary.
Can I keep using my current handheld?
Possibly. The practical question is whether it can run an officially distributed Azahar build on an operating system the project lists, and whether the resulting controls, display, and performance work for your needs. The platform list does not certify every handheld running Android or Linux, so verify the exact model and software path rather than relying on the operating-system name alone.
If the device can use a supported build, compare the disruption of changing the software with the cost of replacing hardware. Should I switch emulator or buy a supported handheld?
Start with official support and your priority games, then weigh controls, display, migration effort, vendor policy, and total cost. There is no evidence here that one replacement model is best for every player, and no particular handheld can be promised to run every 3DS title perfectly.
When a supported build on the same device makes sense
Stay with the current handheld if it can run a platform for which Azahar distributes an official build, your essential games have acceptable compatibility reports, and the device’s controls and display suit how you play. An Android gaming handheld is one possible category because Android is an official Azahar distribution target. Before buying, verify that the device’s operating system and install method match the emulator project’s current documentation. When not to replace anything yet
If you only care about one or two games, a replacement may not be worth the cost until you have confirmed that those titles cannot be played satisfactorily on a supported build you already have access to. Keep an untouched copy of the original save files. Once you have installed the intended replacement build, follow its current documentation for locating or importing saves, then check the relevant game before removing the old setup. If the new build does not recognize a save, stop and preserve both copies rather than overwriting or converting the only original. Keep configuration files separately; restoring settings may require more care than restoring a save.

What should I know about games, firmware, and unofficial forks?
Use game and system data that you are entitled to access, and follow the emulator project’s stated boundaries. Azahar says it will not provide game-copying guides; its guidance instead focuses on setup, firmware installation, and access to titles obtained through official applications such as the eShop. Its project blog has also stated opposition to piracy, which it says puts emulation development and game preservation at high risk.
Do not treat an unofficial fork or a vendor-provided bundle as equivalent to an official project release. In this dispute, the reported concern specifically involves promotion of unofficial, piracy-focused forks. Check the origin of any build and the project’s current policy before installing it.
