B.L.U.E. NOVA is a planned free-to-play, third-person online co-op PvE shooter from GungHo Online Entertainment, scheduled for Steam in 2027. Its main activity, Tower Raid, drops players into a live battlefield where they meet other players, clear mechanical enemy waves and field objectives, break through Barrier Towers, and converge on a central Master Tower. The “halo” in the question is the game’s Ring, officially styled R.I.N.G.: nearby allies link up, gain cooperative buffs and can unlock an ammunition-free firing state called Infinite Barrage on Steam or Unlimited Attack on the official site. The Ring is a local cooperative formation within a battlefield that can hold up to 30 Tower Raid participants, not a single team containing everyone.

The loop is a drop-in expedition: choose a Hero, enter an active battlefield, find allies, defeat escalating mechanical forces, complete objectives on the route, gather development resources, and push toward the Master Tower. The official B.L.U.E. NOVA site presents this as a large-scale cooperative fight against a rogue AI and its machines. You do not need to assemble a complete party before starting; the battlefield is designed to populate as the battle develops.
Steam describes the matchmaking model directly: “Drop-in matchmaking lets you join sessions already in progress, so you spend less time waiting and more time playing.” That makes the activity closer to a public, evolving operation than a private four-player lobby. Players may begin separately, encounter one another while moving through the map, and then cooperate when their routes meet.

How does a Tower Raid run work from start to finish?
Tower Raid is the mode that contains the game’s large-group PvE loop. GungHo announces support for up to 30 players on the battlefield, but that is a map-wide capacity, not the size of every Ring or the number of people who must remain together.
- Select a Hero and enter the operation. The publisher describes Hero selection, equippable Armor and skill trees. Steam’s drop-in system can place you in a session already under way, so your opening minutes may not match the first player’s route.
- Explore the active battlefield. You move through areas occupied by waves of mechanical enemies and occasional colossal foes. Steam identifies Barrier Towers as route objectives that stand between the starting areas and the central target. Development-build reporting from AUTOMATON described marked routes and map sections that could be arranged differently between runs; because that report covered a preview build, treat shifting layouts as an observed possibility rather than a guaranteed launch rule.
- Meet other players and form a Ring. When allies encounter one another, they can enter a R.I.N.G. formation. The Ring improves cooperative combat and can provide the ammunition-free firing effect published as Infinite Barrage on Steam and Unlimited Attack on the English official site. These are two labels for the Ring-enabled power-up, not evidence of two unrelated abilities.
- Use the formation to clear pressure points. Fighting near allies reduces reload interruptions while the group works through enemy waves and objectives. The official descriptions emphasize that cooperative combat grows the R.I.N.G. and enables a powerful Ultimate, so staying connected has a combat purpose beyond social matchmaking.
- Break through the route’s defenses. Barrier Towers and other field objectives slow progress toward the center. The practical rhythm is to regroup around an objective, clear the surrounding machines, and move on rather than sending every participant along one identical path.
- Converge on the Master Tower. Tower Raid’s announced end condition is destruction of the central Master Tower. AUTOMATON’s development-build account also described a final boss encounter before the tower was destroyed. That boss belongs to the Tower Raid sequence and should not be confused with the separate Boss Raid mode.
- Bring back materials and improve the build. In the tested preview, AUTOMATON reported choosing weapons or enhancements after tower bosses and returning with materials used for Armor upgrades and skill-tree unlocks. GungHo confirms Armor and skill trees as systems, but the exact reward sequence and drop table have not been promised as final launch behavior.
How does the Ring or “halo” mechanic work?
The Ring is a proximity-based cooperative formation created when players encounter one another. The official description says the formation boosts capabilities, while Steam explains that joining with encountered allies enables Infinite Barrage without worrying about reloading. The mechanic therefore changes how a group manages sustained fire: ammunition and reload timing become less of a constraint while the Ring’s effects are active.
What is known about Ring size?
AUTOMATON’s 2026 development-build report said two players were enough to activate the infinite-ammunition and no-reload effects it observed, and that an ordinary Ring could benefit up to six players. Those figures are observations and developer explanations from a preview, not a published final ruleset. They should not be read as a six-player limit on the entire Tower Raid battlefield.
What does the Ring Ultimate do?
Steam says cooperative combat grows the R.I.N.G. and unlocks a powerful Ultimate. AUTOMATON described a piloted-mech Ring Ultimate in its tested build and reported that developers assigned its use to the Ring participant contributing most. That allocation rule came from the preview session; GungHo has not established it as an immutable launch rule.
What is not yet specified?
No public source in the current announcements gives an exact damage multiplier, buff percentage, activation radius or strict positioning threshold. It is accurate to say that allies must encounter one another and remain close enough for the formation to function, but a precise distance should not be invented. The safest tactical reading is to treat the Ring as a reward for coordinated movement, not as a passive map-wide bonus.

Do I need a premade team to play Tower Raid?
No. The announced drop-in matchmaking model is specifically intended to place players into sessions already in progress. You can start alone, meet other players during the operation and form a Ring when paths converge. A premade group can coordinate its route and timing more deliberately, but the public matchmaking design means it is not a prerequisite.

It means your first objective is often finding other participants, after which the formation can supply stronger sustained fire and access to its cooperative Ultimate. Because the game does not publish a universal Ring radius, players should use visible ally proximity and the formation’s feedback rather than rely on a memorized distance.
Is the Ring the same thing as the 30-player raid?
No. “Up to 30 players” describes Tower Raid’s overall battlefield capacity. The Ring is a smaller cooperative grouping formed when nearby participants link up; AUTOMATON’s preview report described an ordinary Ring benefiting up to six players. Several Rings can therefore exist across one battlefield, and a player can be in a Tower Raid without every participant belonging to the same Ring.
This distinction matters for tactics. Tower Raid is a large operation with multiple routes and objectives, while a Ring is the local unit that concentrates fire, reduces reload downtime and builds toward its Ultimate. Treating the whole 30-player population as one permanent squad would imply a rule the announcements do not make.
What is the difference between Tower Raid, Boss Raid and Challenge?

The official site calls Boss Raid “A high-difficulty raid battle where you defeat a formidable foe as a small task force.” AUTOMATON specifically reported that it had not played Boss Raid, so a Tower Raid preview cannot establish how difficult or rewarding that separate mode feels. Likewise, Challenge mode’s time-gated examples do not establish a single weekly calendar for launch.
How do Armor, weapons and skill trees fit into the loop?
Progression gives the expedition a reason to continue beyond simply reaching the Master Tower. GungHo identifies Armor and skill trees as core systems, allowing a Hero’s loadout and abilities to develop between operations. In AUTOMATON’s preview account, players selected weapons or enhancements after tower bosses and carried materials back for Armor improvements and skill-tree unlocks.
That report describes one development build, so it does not prove that every launch run will award a choice at the same point or that the final material economy will use identical names and quantities. What is established is the broad structure: combat produces opportunities to strengthen a Hero, and those upgrades feed into later PvE runs.
A practical build decision
- Choose immediate power when a weapon or enhancement helps you survive the next objective and your current build is under pressure.
- Choose long-term progression when the run is stable and a material or skill-tree unlock can improve future operations.
- Coordinate choices in a Ring by covering different combat needs instead of having every nearby player select the same type of enhancement.
The third point is a coordination principle, not a published class-composition requirement: the game has not announced fixed roles or a mandatory party template.

These are the current Steam listing values, not an independent performance benchmark. An SSD is required in both tiers, so a compatible internal SSD is relevant only if an existing Windows gaming PC lacks suitable solid-state storage or enough free space. RAM or graphics-card upgrades are conditional on the rest of a computer’s configuration; no universal upgrade recommendation can be made without those details. A wired Ethernet connection is optional and is not listed as a game requirement.

AUTOMATON reported five approximately 15-minute Tower Raid runs in a development build and found the mode easy to enter but sometimes repetitive. That is a preview publication’s experience, not a guaranteed session length, difficulty curve or launch balance. It also does not provide evidence about Boss Raid because that mode was not played in the report.
The strongest confirmed picture is therefore structural: Tower Raid is a public, up-to-30-player route to a Master Tower; Ring formation rewards nearby cooperation with sustained fire and an Ultimate; and Hero progression connects one operation to the next. Exact Ring percentages, distances, final reward tables, map variation and mode schedules remain subject to change before the planned 2027 release.

- Regroup for the Master Tower. The final approach is the operation’s shared destination, even though players may have taken different routes beforehand.
- Spend post-run rewards deliberately. Use materials on the Armor or skill-tree improvements that address the next difficulty you expect, while remembering that preview reward timing may change.
What is the clearest way to understand the “halo” question?
Think of the halo as a visual shorthand for R.I.N.G., not as a separate franchise or a map-wide shield. It is the game’s local cooperation system: players encounter one another, form a Ring, gain stronger coordinated fire and can build toward a powerful Ultimate. Tower Raid supplies the large battlefield and shared objective; the Ring supplies the moment-to-moment reason to stay together.

How long does a Tower Raid run take?
AUTOMATON reported five development-build runs of approximately 15 minutes each. That figure describes the preview sessions and should not be treated as a guaranteed launch-time estimate, especially because route layouts and balance may change.
Can a Ring include more than two players?
Yes. The two-player figure comes from a preview observation about activating the ammunition effect, while the same report said an ordinary Ring could benefit up to six players. The final game may revise those limits, and no exact launch radius or buff percentage has been published.

Will the materials and upgrade choices from the preview carry over to release?
There is no promise that preview-build reward names, timing or quantities will remain unchanged. Armor and skill trees are announced systems, but the detailed progression economy can still be adjusted before launch.
Is the Master Tower the same objective as Boss Raid’s target?
No. Master Tower destruction defines the announced Tower Raid route, while Boss Raid is separately described as a six-player, high-difficulty fight against a formidable foe. The two modes should be treated as different activities rather than two difficulty settings for one encounter.
