B1 Free Archiver is a free archive utility and file manager with official download routes for Windows, Linux, Mac and Android, plus a browser-based extractor. Download it through B1’s official navigation at b1.org/online, rather than a third-party installer. It can open ZIP, RAR/RAR5, 7z, TAR, GZIP, ISO, B1 and many other formats, while desktop editions create ZIP and B1 archives. Android adds archive browsing, partial extraction and multipart extraction, but its store listing is dated April 3, 2019 and includes ads and in-app purchases. What is B1 Free Archiver?
B1 Free Archiver is a cross-platform archive utility combined with a file manager. The project began with the B1 format in 2011 and later expanded into Windows, Linux, Mac and Android applications. The official feature page also lists a web version that runs in a browser. Its purpose is practical: open compressed packages, inspect their contents, extract selected files, and create new archives without installing a separate program for every format.

B1’s feature page says it supports almost 40 formats. The list includes B1, ZIP, RAR, RAR5, 7z, JAR, ARJ, GZIP, TAR, ISO, LZH, RPM, XAR, XZ, DMG and comic-book archive extensions. “Supports” primarily means opening or extracting; it does not mean every edition can create every one of those formats.
Where can I download B1 Free Archiver safely?
Use B1’s official download navigation at b1.org/online. The navigation presents separate routes for B1 Free Archiver on Windows, Linux and Mac, and B1 Archiver and B1 File Manager for Android. Select the route matching your operating system and avoid repacked installers from download portals, because a mirror can change the installer or add unwanted software.

The reviewed official pages do not expose a current desktop version number or a definitive release date. Do not infer that an installer is the newest build merely because a download button is present. After downloading, check the file name, operating-system architecture and your operating system’s signature or reputation warning before opening it. Keep the original installer until you have confirmed that the application launches and can read a test archive.
Which download should I choose?
- Windows: choose the Windows route for the edition matching your system.
- Mac: use the Mac route and follow the operating system’s application-permission prompts.
- Linux: use the Linux route; package format and installation steps can differ by distribution.
- Android: install from the official store listing reached through B1’s Android navigation. Expect ads and in-app purchases according to that listing.
- No installation: use the online archiver for a supported archive when uploading the file is acceptable.
Which archive formats can B1 open, and which can it create?
B1 is most useful as a broad reader. It can open common game-mod, save-backup and download formats such as ZIP, RAR, RAR5, 7z, TAR, GZIP, ISO and B1, along with less common formats listed by B1. Opening an archive and creating one are different capabilities, so check the table before planning a workflow.

How do I install B1 and open an archive?
Installation labels vary by operating system, but the first-use sequence is consistent: install from the official route, launch B1, then open the archive from its file manager or an Open command.
- Download the installer or app from B1’s official platform navigation.
- Run the installer, accept only the permissions required by your operating system, and finish setup.
- Launch B1 and navigate to the folder containing the archive.
- Select the ZIP, RAR, RAR5, 7z, TAR, GZIP, ISO, B1 or other supported file.
- Browse the file list before extracting. This lets you confirm the archive is the one you intended to open.
- Choose an extraction destination with enough free space, then start extraction.
- Open a few extracted files or compare their sizes with the source application’s documentation before deleting the archive.
On Android, B1 can browse an archive without extracting everything and can extract only selected files. That is useful when a large game resource package contains one configuration file or save that you need, rather than the entire contents.
How do I create a ZIP or B1 archive?
B1’s help documentation describes archive creation as a three-click operation. The exact labels can differ slightly between desktop and Android, but the decision points are the same.

- Select the files or folder in B1’s file manager.
- Choose the command to create a new archive and select ZIP or B1 as the format.
- Set the destination and optional password, then confirm creation.
Use a folder as the input when you want the directory structure preserved. For a game mod, include a readme and the expected top-level folder so the recipient can extract it without guessing where files belong. Test the resulting archive by opening it in B1 and extracting it to a temporary directory.

The B1 format supports password protection using 256-bit AES encryption. B1 also describes an Adler-32 integrity check performed before unpacking, which can detect certain data errors before extraction. These features protect the archive contents and help identify damaged data, but they do not make a weak password safe.
When creating a password-protected archive, use a long, unique passphrase and send it through a different channel from the archive. A password stored in the same message as the download offers little protection. Keep an unencrypted backup when losing the password would make the only copy unrecoverable; archive encryption generally cannot be bypassed legitimately.
Android’s published listing specifically says it can create password-protected ZIP and B1 archives. The desktop feature information confirms ZIP and B1 creation, but does not state that every desktop format supports encryption. Select B1 when you need its documented AES protection, and use ZIP for broad compatibility when encryption is not required.
How do I extract split or multipart archives?
B1’s help center documents split archives using names such as part0001, part01, 001 or z01. These are pieces of one archive, not independent files.

- Download every part into the same folder. A missing piece will usually prevent successful extraction.
- Do not rename the parts unless the archive creator’s instructions explicitly require it; numbering is how the program identifies their order.
- Open the first part in B1. For ZIP sets this is commonly the file ending in
.zip, with.z01,.z02and later pieces beside it. - Start extraction and select a destination with space for the complete uncompressed contents.
- If B1 reports a missing volume, compare the downloaded names and numbering, then re-download the absent or damaged part.
Android supports multipart extraction as well as selective extraction. That can reduce storage use when you need only a few files from a large set.
Is the B1 online archiver safe for private files?
The online option is convenient when you cannot install software, but it requires uploading the archive to a web service. B1 states that uploaded files are completely deleted a few minutes after you close the page. That is a vendor retention statement, not a substitute for your own risk assessment.
Do not upload passwords, personal records, unreleased game assets, proprietary source code or any other material that your security policy forbids sending to a third party. For sensitive archives, use the local desktop or Android application instead. If you do use the browser tool, close the page after extraction and avoid sharing the resulting download link.
Is B1 Free Archiver safe, ad-free and private?
B1’s feature page says the desktop product is free of malware and adware and does not gather personal information. Those are statements from the vendor; the page does not provide an independent test method, audit or reproducible evidence. Treat the installer as you would any downloaded executable: obtain it from the official route, scan it with your security software and keep your operating system updated.
Do not apply the desktop statement to Android. The Android store listing identifies ads and in-app purchases, requests external-storage access, and reports network access for an analytics module. Review the permissions shown on your device and remove the app if its behavior does not match your needs.

Is B1 still supported and maintained?
There is no authoritative current desktop build number or release date on the reviewed official pages. The feature page carries a 2025 copyright notice, while the Android listing says it was updated on April 3, 2019. Those dates establish what the pages display, not a guarantee of active maintenance or compatibility with every current operating-system release.
For a low-risk task such as opening a ZIP, test B1 with a copy of the archive first. For a long-lived production workflow, keep a second extraction tool available and retain the original files. If a current operating-system update causes a problem, check B1’s official download navigation for a newer platform route rather than installing an unofficial repack.

B1’s feature page says the software is free for personal and commercial use. Its EULA, however, grants a restricted personal, non-commercial license and says the software is provided “AS IS.” Those statements do not align cleanly. Before bundling B1 with a game, distributing it to customers, or using it in a company-wide deployment, read the current EULA and obtain clarification from the rights holder if the wording remains ambiguous.
Using B1 to open an archive you received is different from redistributing the application or incorporating its libraries into your own product. Keep a copy of the applicable terms with your deployment records, especially when commercial distribution crosses jurisdictions.
What is the B1 archive format?
B1 is an open archive format associated with the project. B1 links to open-source tools and libraries, and the B1 Pack repository describes modules that implement the format, including a cross-platform command-line tool and a Java library for creating and extracting B1 archives.

The format’s documented 256-bit AES protection and integrity checking can be useful for backups or private transfers. Its main trade-off is interoperability: recipients need software that understands B1, whereas ZIP is familiar to a wider range of operating systems. Choose the format based on who must open the archive, not only on the feature list.
What should I do if an archive will not open?
- Check the extension: confirm that the file is really an archive and was not renamed incorrectly.
- Check multipart completeness: place every numbered part in one folder and begin with the first volume.
- Re-download: a truncated download can trigger an integrity error even when the name is correct.
- Try local extraction: if the online service fails, use the desktop application so you can inspect the complete error and file list.
- Check the password: passwords are case-sensitive; copy it without adding spaces.
- Preserve the original: never overwrite the only copy while testing repairs or alternate extractors.
An integrity error does not prove that B1 caused the damage. It can indicate an incomplete download, a missing split volume, a wrong password or corruption in the source archive.

Does B1 Free Archiver run on Chromebooks?
The published platform routes list Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and a browser-based option, but do not identify a ChromeOS application. On a Chromebook, the web archiver is the clearly documented no-install route; ChromeOS support for a Linux package depends on the device and its Linux environment.
Can B1 open an archive without extracting the whole game folder?
