To reach its lower levels and vaults, get a Bank Pass from Head Clerk Meadhoney or use a stealth route through the guarded upper rooms. Spoilers: the guide below describes a story cutscene tied to the Stone Lord and explains how the bank leads toward the later search for Minsc.
How do you get into the Counting House vaults?
Find the Counting House in the Lower City and go inside. The public teller area is not the vault level: you need to pass the checkpoint to reach the lower rooms. A Bank Pass is the straightforward way through. Speak with Head Clerk Meadhoney about access, or deal with Cashguard Captain Faril at the checkpoint. BG3 Wiki’s Counting House guide describes both routes.
Where can you get a Bank Pass?
Ask Head Clerk Meadhoney
Meadhoney can provide a pass if you succeed at dialogue checks. The available approaches described in the BG3 Wiki’s High Harper guide include Persuasion, Intimidation, and Deception. Choose a character suited to the check you want to make.
Use the guarded rooms
If you would rather avoid relying on dialogue, the High Harper guide describes a stealth route through guarded upper rooms. In the first guarded room on the left, a Bank Pass sits on a side table. A book in the second room contains a clue for the vault code. A pipe connects the rooms and can be traversed by a druid in wild shape.

Compare the approaches
| Approach | What it involves | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Dialogue | Persuasion, Intimidation, or Deception checks with Meadhoney; the Counting House guide also describes bribing Faril. | You prefer social checks or a direct checkpoint interaction. |
| Stealth | Take the pass from the first guarded room and find the code clue in the second; a wild-shaped druid can use the connecting pipe. | You want to avoid relying on the checkpoint conversation and can manage the guarded-room route. |
The sources describe these routes but do not establish a universal difficulty ranking or guarantee that every route behaves identically across patches.
What happens in the vaults?
After using the pass to reach the lower levels, you can explore the ordinary vaults and the separate High Security Vaults hall. Entering the high-security hall for the first time triggers a cutscene revealing Nine-Fingers Keene’s trap for the Stone Lord. The sequence is part of the larger Lower City storyline, rather than a standalone bank errand.

Where do you find Minsc after the Counting House?
The Counting House visit advances the Stone Lord thread and points the party toward the search for Minsc. It does not itself resolve that encounter. The High Harper quest connects the investigation to the Abandoned Cistern, where the party can pursue Minsc; BG3 Wiki’s Aid the Underduke quest page provides related quest context.
