Baldur’s Gate 3 earned a 96 Metascore on PC in the Metacritic snapshots accessed on October 7, 2026. On the PC critic-review listing, Metacritic displayed 111 positive reviews, one mixed review and no negative reviews. Its separate PC overview described the same 96 score as based on 112 critic reviews. These are page-specific counts, not a single combined total, and the aggregate can change.
What the PC critic score says
The 96 is Metacritic’s PC critic aggregate, not a universal score for every version of Baldur’s Gate 3 and not a user rating. The critic listing’s displayed split was overwhelmingly positive but not unanimous: it included one mixed review. The separate overview’s count differs, so the two page presentations should be read in their own context rather than merged into one fixed review total. See Metacritic’s PC critic-review listing and PC overview.
Metacritic lists PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions, with separate platform aggregates. The 96 figure here applies to PC; check the overview’s live platform entry for a current console score rather than assuming it matches. Baldur’s Gate 3 initially released on August 3, 2023, according to that overview.
What critics praised—and the caveat they noted
Across the accessible review excerpts, critics frequently praised the breadth and detail of the fantasy world, the freedom to role-play, the Dungeons & Dragons-derived systems, its characters and the consequences attached to player choices. The common thread is a game built to let players approach situations in multiple ways and see those decisions shape what follows.

That scale can also be a lot to take in. Some reviews warned that the game’s size and complexity may feel daunting to newcomers; it is a qualification, not a universal objection. Some excerpts also discuss post-launch refinement, so launch-period commentary should not be treated as a definitive description of the current patched game.
How to interpret the score
- It is an aggregate, not an explanation. The number summarizes critic reviews; reading individual reviews is the way to understand what a particular reviewer valued or disliked.
- Counts and scores are snapshots. Metacritic’s displayed review totals can change as entries are added or page presentations update.
- Critic and user ratings are different measures. This article covers critic reviews; user ratings should not be substituted for the critic aggregate.
- Comparisons need matching context. Compare platform, score scale, included review count and the type of aggregate before treating two scores as equivalent.
Verdict
Metacritic’s October 7, 2026 PC snapshot records exceptionally strong critical reception: a 96 Metascore and a critic split with 111 positive, one mixed and zero negative reviews on the listing. Critics’ praise centers on role-playing freedom, detailed world-building and consequential choices, while the game’s size may be a hurdle for newcomers. Treat the number as a dated PC aggregate, not a score for every platform or a substitute for the individual reviews.
