Baldur’s Gate 3’s September 29, 2026 hotfix addresses three different problems: a startup crash when launching through the GOG Mac launcher, being booted while placing map markers on PS5, and patchy-looking beards. But Larian’s announcement does not say which, if any, is the issue that had supposedly lingered for three years. The headline’s live-service comparison is opinion, not a conclusion established by the patch notes.
What Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix 4.1.1.7631656 changes
Larian’s Community Team announced the update on September 29, 2026, identifying it as game version 4.1.1.7631656. The official post describes three fixes:
- GOG on Mac: Players can start the game through the GOG Mac launcher without the described crash. Larian does not give a technical cause or reproduction steps.
- PS5: Players can create map markers without being booted from the game.
- Beards: Beards should look “slightly less patchy,” a cosmetic adjustment.
Larian’s announcement summarizes the changes as: “Update to the latest version of Baldur’s Gate 3 to enjoy a crash-free experience when starting the game through the GOG Mac launcher, safely create map markers on PS5 without getting booted, and grow slightly less patchy beards.” Read the official Hotfix #32 announcement for the full update details.
Which fix had been around for three years?
The September 29 announcement does not identify a three-year-old issue or give the history of any of the three fixes. It does not establish when the GOG Mac crash or PS5 map-marker problem began, how many players were affected, or whether the beard change addresses a complaint of that age. So it would be misleading to say that Larian specifically fixed the PS5 bug—or either of the other changes—after three years.

Larian’s September 2025 Hotfix #34 post documents earlier fixes, but it does not connect any of these three issues to a three-year timeline. Without a source identifying the issue and documenting its history, the duration remains unverified.
Does this show live-service RPGs would leave problems unfixed?
No. The hotfix confirms what Larian says it changed in Baldur’s Gate 3; it cannot establish what other RPG developers would fix or how quickly. The comparison in the headline is rhetorical rather than a finding supported by these patch notes. The documented fixes also differ in kind: two address game interruptions on specific platforms, while the beard change is cosmetic.
