For Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition version 2.0 and later, enable the console by adding SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1') to the game’s Baldur.lua settings file. In game, press Ctrl+Space, enter a command with the C: prefix, and press Enter. Older instructions use a different file and setup, so don’t combine them with the newer method.
How do I open the console in BG2:EE?
Beamdog’s instructions for version 2.0 and later use Baldur.lua and the debug-mode setting below. The file is in the game’s user settings folder; its location and the precise steps to reach it can vary by system.
- Find the user settings folder for your BG2:EE installation and open
Baldur.lua. - Add this line to the file, then save it:
SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1'). - Start or return to the game and press Ctrl+Space.
- Enter a command beginning with
C:, then press Enter.

Which console command prefix works?
For the version 2.0-and-later workflow, use C: before the command, as in C:AddGold("1000"). Older BGEE customization material may use the legacy CLUAConsole: prefix. That older reference is not a reason to substitute its setup or assume every example works in every BG2:EE build.

Useful BG2:EE console command examples
Beamdog’s older customization reference lists the following examples. They are documented examples, not a guarantee that every command or effect is identical across versions and game contexts.

What should I check if Ctrl+Space does nothing?
- Confirm that you edited and saved the
Baldur.luafile in the user settings folder for the relevant game, rather than a different installation’s file. - Check that the setting line is present as written, then restart or return to the game and try the shortcut again.
- On some Windows configurations, multiple enabled input languages may interfere with Ctrl+Space. Beamdog’s older, Windows-oriented support post mentions this as a possible cause; it is not a guaranteed fix for current systems. See Beamdog’s console troubleshooting post.
Why do some guides say Baldur.ini?
Older BGII:EE instructions refer to Baldur.ini and a different setting representation. They predate the version 2.0-and-later Baldur.lua method, so follow one set of instructions that matches the game version rather than mixing the files or settings. Beamdog’s older support post also documents a few issue-specific commands: C:CreateItem("ohhcloak") for the lost Dragomir’s Cloak, and C:SetGlobal("HexxatLovetalksTimer","GLOBAL",1) for a Hexxat conversation timer. These are examples for those particular problems, not universal fixes.
Optional cheat keys and cautions
The older customization reference also lists these keyboard shortcuts. Save before using them: teleporting, recruiting, restoring, or killing a creature can disrupt play or alter the situation in ways you may not want.

- Ctrl+Q: recruit the creature under the cursor.
- Ctrl+R: restore the targeted creature and remove effects.
- Ctrl+Y: kill the targeted creature.
- Ctrl+T: advance game time by one hour.
The same reference marks Ctrl+C as “Do Not Use.” It does not explain a safe use for that shortcut, so avoid it.
