If Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition won’t get past its launcher on Windows 7, first identify where it stops: an old key prompt, the launcher failing to open, or the game not starting after you click Play. Those are different problems, and the available fixes are not interchangeable. Start with the checks below that match your symptom; none is a guaranteed Windows 7 fix.
First, identify the failure stage
Write down the exact error text, or take a screenshot, and note whether the launcher opens at all. Also record where you installed the game—Steam, GOG, Epic, or disc—and which Windows 7 edition and system type (32-bit or 64-bit) you use. “The game does not launch” can mean several different things, so these details help narrow down the cause.

- An old SecuROM or Games for Windows Live prompt appears: use the Steam-specific check below if you own the Steam version.
- The launcher will not open, or its Play button does nothing: consider the alternative-launcher option, after the lower-risk checks.
- The launcher opens, but the game fails after you click Play: try the DirectX runtime check.
Check Steam for an old key prompt
If you are using Steam and still see a SecuROM or Games for Windows Live prompt, a Steam community discussion recommends confirming that you are launching the updated GOTY edition and verifying the installed files. This advice applies to that legacy-prompt symptom; it is not a general launcher fix. Read the Steam community discussion.
In Steam, open your Library, right-click Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Steam will check the installation and replace files it finds damaged or missing.

If the game fails after clicking Play, try the bundled DirectX runtime
The official Square Enix PC manual lists DirectX 9 or later as a requirement, but its launch instructions cover Windows XP and Vista rather than Windows 7; it does not give a Windows 7-specific launcher fix. See the official PC manual.
Some Steam users report resolving launch problems by installing DirectX from the game’s own redist/DirectX folder. A separate community report describes a Windows 7/8 launch-page failure involving a missing DirectX DLL that improved after installing Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). - Open the game’s installation folder and look for
redist/DirectX. - Run the DirectX installer found there and follow its prompts. Restart Windows if the installer asks you to.
- Try launching the game again. Do not download an individual DLL from a third-party DLL site.
If the launcher itself is the blocker, consider an alternative launcher
The third-party AsylumLauncher project documents an alternative launcher and a -nolauncher option for Steam, GOG, Epic, or a Windows shortcut. Its instructions involve adding files to the game’s Binaries folder and may unblock the original BmLauncher. This is community software, not official publisher guidance, and the project does not establish that it will work for every Windows 7 installation. Review the project and its instructions.

Before adding or replacing executable files, back up the game folder and follow the project’s documented instructions carefully. If you are not comfortable modifying the installation, skip this option. Keep in mind that third-party launcher support and compatibility are separate from WB Games support.

Leave compatibility settings and extra dependencies until later
Community suggestions include .NET Framework 3.5, Visual C++ x86 redistributables, administrator settings, and Windows compatibility mode, but reports are inconsistent and sometimes contradictory. They are not established as universal first steps for this game. If you test an administrator or compatibility setting, note its original value first and revert it if the result gets worse. Avoid changing several settings at once; that makes it harder to tell which change mattered.

Include your storefront or installation source, Windows 7 edition and 32-/64-bit type, the exact error text or screenshot, and whether the failure happens before the launcher opens or after clicking Play. Steam lists the game’s release date as March 26, 2010; the official manual’s documented Windows launch instructions stop at XP and Vista, so it does not establish a Windows 7-specific remedy.
