bcgcbpro860u80.dll is a third-party application DLL, not a Windows component. When bcgcbpro860u80.dll is missing or cannot load, repair the program that requested it rather than downloading a replacement into a Windows system folder.

Start with this diagnostic checklist

Before changing anything, record:

  • Which program shows the error: Read the application name in the error dialog or note which shortcut you opened.
  • When it happens: Does the message appear at startup, while opening a project, or when Windows starts?
  • The affected executable: Find the program’s .exe file in its installation folder.
  • The application path: Note the folder containing the executable and any copy of the DLL.
  • Your Windows version: Check Settings > System > About.
  • The application architecture: A 32-bit program normally needs 32-bit libraries, even on 64-bit Windows.

Do not assume the program is Nero simply because public file metadata associates this DLL with Nero Burning ROM and Nero BackItUp. Those are reported associations, not a complete or officially confirmed application list. The executable and installation folder on your computer are the evidence that matters.

What is bcgcbpro860u80.dll?

The file is associated with BCGControlBar Professional Dynamic Link Library, an MFC extension and user-interface component from BCGSoft Ltd. BCGControlBar provides interface features such as ribbons, toolbars, menus, controls, and docking panes for Windows applications.

Public metadata for a known file identifies these details:

Item Reported information
Product BCGControlBar Professional Dynamic Link Library
Reported version 8.60.0.0
Reported architecture Win32, or 32-bit
Reported size Approximately 2.9 MB
Reported applications Nero Burning ROM and Nero BackItUp

These details come from third-party file metadata and may not describe the exact copy your application requires. Do not use the reported version or size alone to select a replacement.

What the error messages mean

You may see one of these messages:

  • “The program can’t start because bcgcbpro860u80.dll is missing from your computer.”
  • “BCGCBPRO860u80.dll Not Found.”
  • “Error loading bcgcbpro860u80.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
  • “The code execution cannot proceed because bcgcbpro860u80.dll was not found.”
  • “bcgcbpro860u80.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”

The wording indicates that Windows could not load a library required by an application. “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL itself is absent. Windows may locate bcgcbpro860u80.dll but fail because another DLL that it depends on is missing, damaged, blocked, or the wrong architecture.

1. Find the application that needs the DLL

This is the fastest way to avoid repairing the wrong program.

  1. Close the error dialog and open the application again.
  2. Write down the program name shown in the title bar or message.
  3. Right-click the program’s shortcut and select Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, read the path beside Target.
  5. Open that folder in File Explorer.
  6. Look for bcgcbpro860u80.dll in the same folder or a nearby Bin, Program, or component directory.
  7. Right-click the application’s .exe, select Properties, and open Details.
  8. Record the Product name, File description, File version, and Publisher, if present.

If the DLL exists in the application folder but the program still reports that it cannot load, the problem may be a missing dependent DLL, a damaged file, an incompatible build, or security software blocking it.

If the message appears immediately after Windows starts, check for an orphaned startup entry:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  2. Select Startup apps.
  3. Look for an entry belonging to the old application.
  4. Right-click it and choose Disable.
  5. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and remove the abandoned program if it is still listed.

Confirm the entry belongs to the old application before disabling or uninstalling it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Repair the parent application

Use the application’s own repair function first. This restores the files selected by the installer and preserves the correct version relationship between the executable and its libraries.

  1. Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
  2. Find the program named in the error.
  3. Select the three-dot menu beside it.
  4. Choose Advanced options, if shown.
  5. Select Repair.
  6. Restart Windows and launch the program again.

Not every traditional desktop application provides this option. If Repair is missing or the error remains:

  1. Save any application settings or projects you need.
  2. Close the application.
  3. In Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the program.
  4. Choose Uninstall.
  5. Restart Windows.
  6. Reinstall the application using its original installer or the current installer supplied by the application’s official publisher.
  7. Launch the program before restoring optional plug-ins or custom files.

For older software, compatibility with current Windows versions may depend on the application vendor’s supported build. The reported 8.60.0.0 file is legacy metadata, not proof that every file with that name is interchangeable.

If the affected software is a game or launcher, use its built-in Verify, Repair, or Verify integrity of game files command instead of copying a DLL manually. The exact menu name depends on the launcher. Restart the launcher after verification and test the game again.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

3. Check antivirus quarantine

Security software may remove or quarantine an application DLL after an update, cleanup, or malware scan.

In Windows Security:

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Choose Protection history.
  4. Expand recent detections related to the affected application or DLL.
  5. Read the detection details, file path, and action taken.

Restore or allow the file only if you can verify that it came from the application’s original installation and the application publisher. If the file’s origin is uncertain, do not restore it. Repair or reinstall the parent application instead, then run a full scan.

Also check the quarantine area of any third-party security product installed on the computer. A file restored from quarantine can be removed again if the underlying installation remains damaged or the detection is valid.

4. Install a missing runtime only when diagnostics point to it

A missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime can cause a valid application DLL to fail during loading, but the Visual C++ Redistributable does not supply bcgcbpro860u80.dll.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Install a redistributable only when the application documentation, its installer, or a dependency diagnostic identifies it as required.

For a 32-bit application, the x86 redistributable is normally the relevant architecture. A 64-bit Windows installation can run 32-bit programs, but it does not turn a 32-bit application into a 64-bit one. Microsoft’s latest supported Visual C++ Redistributables explain the architecture requirement.

After installing the runtime:

  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Launch the affected application.
  3. If the same named DLL error remains, return to repairing or reinstalling the parent application.

Installing both x86 and x64 packages can be appropriate when different applications need them, but neither is a substitute for the BCGSoft library.

5. Repair Windows components and protected files

SFC and DISM repair Windows components. They will not normally restore a third-party BCGSoft DLL, but they are useful when broader system corruption is also present.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Start and type Command Prompt.
  2. Right-click Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Run this command:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for it to finish.
  2. Then run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows and test the application.

A successful repair may report that corruption was found and repaired. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run the commands again, then install pending Windows updates through Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Repeating system scans will not recreate a missing application file. If Windows repairs successfully but the application still fails, reinstall the application that owns the DLL.

When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC/DISM leaves you unsure what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what it identifies; its free scan shows the issues, while repair is handled by the full version. Reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix when this DLL belongs to that program.

6. Check architecture, corruption, and file location

The known legacy metadata describes a 32-bit Win32 file, but the copy on your computer must be checked directly.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the application’s installation folder.
  2. Right-click bcgcbpro860u80.dll, if it exists.
  3. Select Properties > Details and record the available version information.
  4. Open Properties > Digital Signatures, if that tab exists.
  5. Check whether the file is located inside the application’s own directory.

The absence of a Digital Signatures tab does not by itself prove that a file is malicious. Likewise, a file with the correct name is not automatically genuine. If the file is in a temporary folder, a user profile directory, or an unexpected system location, scan it and reinstall the owning application.

Do not replace a 32-bit library with a random 64-bit download. A 32-bit DLL must match the process and application build that loads it.

7. Update Windows and relevant drivers

Windows updates can address compatibility problems, while a driver update may help when the application also crashes around graphics, storage, or device access. Updating a driver will not normally recreate bcgcbpro860u80.dll.

To update Windows:

  1. Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates.
  3. Install available updates.
  4. Restart when prompted.

To check a relevant driver:

  1. Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand the category related to the failure, such as Display adapters, Storage controllers, or Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click the device.
  4. Select Update driver.
  5. Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  6. Restart Windows if a driver is installed.

When identifying stale drivers across several devices becomes guesswork, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver versions; its free scan shows what it finds, while installation is handled by the full version. This remains secondary to repairing the specific application that requested the DLL.

Why copying the DLL and using regsvr32 usually fail

Do not download bcgcbpro860u80.dll from a random DLL website. The file may contain malware, be the wrong version, target the wrong architecture, lack trustworthy provenance, or still fail because another dependency is missing.

Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is also usually wrong. Windows normally searches the application directory first, and a system-wide copy can create version conflicts or expose other programs to an untrusted DLL search path. Use the application’s official installer instead.

regsvr32 normally does not apply. It is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, typically COM or ActiveX components. An ordinary application library commonly returns an error when registered and this does not repair a missing dependency.

If the error continues after reinstalling

Collect this information before contacting the application vendor:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Exact error text and a screenshot
  • Name and path of the affected executable
  • Full path of any copy of bcgcbpro860u80.dll
  • Application version and publisher
  • Windows version and system architecture
  • File Properties and Digital Signatures details
  • Antivirus detection or quarantine event
  • Relevant entries from Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application

Then try these controlled checks:

  1. Perform a clean boot to identify software interference.
  2. Test the application from a new Windows user profile.
  3. Check the application’s repair or verification log.
  4. Run a full Windows Security scan.
  5. Use System Restore if the failure began after a recent installation or update. Open Start, search for Create a restore point, select System Restore, and choose an appropriate restore point. Changes made after that point can be lost, although personal files are not normally changed.

The application vendor is the correct escalation point for an old build, an unavailable installer, or a DLL that fails signature, architecture, or dependency checks.

FAQ

Is bcgcbpro860u80.dll a Windows file?

No. It is associated with BCGControlBar Professional, a third-party UI library used by Windows applications.

Is Nero always the program that needs it?

No. Nero Burning ROM and Nero BackItUp are reported associations, but they are not an exhaustive application list. Identify the executable that displays the error.

Is the DLL 32-bit or 64-bit?

Public metadata for the reported 8.60.0.0 file identifies it as Win32, or 32-bit. Verify the actual application and file on your computer before replacing anything.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will Visual C++ Redistributable restore the file?

No. It may provide a separate runtime dependency, but it does not normally contain this BCGSoft DLL.

Should I register it with regsvr32?

Normally no. Repair or reinstall the parent application instead.

What is the safest fix?

Use the application’s Repair option or reinstall it from the original or official publisher installer. This restores the matching executable, DLLs, and dependencies together.
