If a traditional film-festival submission is not the right fit, an independent web series still has four strong routes to viewers and industry attention: hosted online distribution, specialist web-series competitions, curated digital showcases, and episodic programs connected to buyers and funders. Choose according to the result you need—an enduring place to watch, awards and credibility, useful feedback, or meetings that can lead to financing and distribution.
The best release plan usually combines more than one route. Protect a private screener for industry submissions, use a specialist program while premiere eligibility lasts, then publish through a platform you control and add curated showcases for discovery.

Start with the outcome you need
“Showcase” can mean very different things. A public home for every episode solves an access problem; a competition solves validation and feedback; an industry program is designed for relationships. Decide which outcome matters most before you pay an entry fee or make a public release, because the wrong first step can make a project ineligible for a more valuable opportunity.
Recommended Free Tools
| Primary goal | Best-fit route | What success looks like | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Keep episodes watchable over time | Hosted online distribution | A persistent page, playback on common devices and a link you can share | Confirm who controls hosting, display rights and audience data |
| Earn recognition or external validation | Specialist web-series festival or competition | Selection, an award, judges’ comments or a credible public screening | Eligibility, fees and screening terms vary by cycle |
| Reach a new audience in a curated context | Online showcase | Promotion through festival channels, newsletters and social posts | Curated placement does not guarantee sustained viewing |
| Meet distributors, producers or funders | Industry-facing episodic program | Introductions, market meetings or consideration for a creator market | Premiere and public-availability rules can be strict |
Use audience fit as a second filter. The New Zealand Film Commission advises researching a festival’s audience and track record instead of submitting indiscriminately. Look for comparable series, the languages and genres the program actually presents, the regions it reaches and what selected creators did afterward.

Hosted online distribution: give the series a permanent home
VersusMedia
VersusMedia accepts independent films, short films and web series. A creator can open a free account and upload work for review. Approved titles may appear on the service’s web site and on iOS, Android, Roku and Apple TV. This route is useful when your priority is a stable, watchable destination rather than a single event date.
Treat approval as a placement opportunity, not a guaranteed audience. Before uploading, establish whether the service provides episode-level analytics, how long an approved title remains available, what promotional support is included and whether you can remove or replace an episode. Keep a master copy and your own metadata so you can move the series if the platform’s terms or reach change.
RTV’s online edition
RTV describes an online edition with free direct entry. Its stated arrangement lets creators keep videos on the original platform while granting RTV permission to display submitted materials. That can reduce the risk of maintaining another full upload, but the exact rights grant matters: read whether permission is limited to a display window, territory, language, promotional clip or the complete episode.

When hosted distribution is the right first move
- You need one link that viewers can revisit after a premiere.
- Your episodes are already public, so programs with strict premiere rules are unavailable.
- You want device coverage beyond a single social network, subject to the host’s approval.
- You can drive initial traffic yourself through an owned site, newsletter, community or social channel.
Keep a second, controlled screener for buyers and programmers even after the public version is live. A password-protected link lets you share the complete season, a pilot or a sizzle reel without changing the public release status of unreleased material.

Specialist web-series festivals and competitions
These programs are closer to a conventional festival experience, but their eligibility is built around online series and digital episodes. They can provide selection laurels, feedback, a screening opportunity or a web-native audience layer. Read each cycle’s rules rather than assuming that an online program has relaxed premiere requirements.
| Program | Formats and positioning | Published reach or benefit | Verify before submitting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hollywood Series | Online web festival for OTT and digital creators; lists long- and short-form series, web documentaries, TikToks, Instagram Reels, vlogs, pilots, podcasts and web series | Connected to a global network of more than 50 international web festivals (2026 statement) | Which category fits your project, current deadlines, fees, premiere rules and what the network connection provides in practice |
| Web Series Festival Global | Accepts online content from YouTube and Facebook as well as episodes on digital platforms | Positions the event as IMDb-recognized, with exposure and connections to audiences and industry professionals | How recognition is recorded, the current edition’s screening method and whether public availability is required |
| WRPN.tv Global Webisode Competition (WGWC) | Accepts webisodes and TV series | Advertises feedback, optional screening on WRPN.tv and stated distribution reach in more than 70 countries; its 2025 competition page also cites 13 years dedicated to web-series creators | Cycle-specific fees, dates, optional-screening terms, territories and whether “70+ countries” applies to every selected title |
| REALIST | International web-series festival combined with a business-to-business program | Competition entries are watched and voted on through the Chill vertical app and online platform | Voting mechanics, audience access, rights granted for the app and the B2B meeting process |
Hollywood Series
Hollywood Series is broad enough for projects that do not look like a conventional television season. Its published categories include short and long-form series, web documentaries, pilots and social-native formats such as TikToks, Instagram Reels and vlogs. The stated connection to more than 50 international web festivals can expand the number of possible discovery points, but it should not be read as automatic qualification or distribution. Ask whether a selection is forwarded, merely listed, or separately eligible for partner events.

This program explicitly accepts content already hosted on YouTube and Facebook, along with episodes on digital platforms. That makes it a possible fit for a series built around an existing channel rather than a private premiere. Its materials describe IMDb recognition and opportunities to connect with audiences and industry professionals. Confirm the current process for any IMDb-related listing and whether the event expects a link, downloadable screener or platform-based submission.
WRPN.tv Global Webisode Competition
WGWC advertises written or verbal feedback, an optional screening on WRPN.tv and distribution reach in more than 70 countries. Those are different benefits: feedback helps revision, a screening creates a public event, and stated reach describes the service’s footprint rather than guaranteed views. The 2025 competition page also claimed 13 years of dedication to web-series creators. Treat fees, dates and optional-screening permissions as specific to that competition cycle, and obtain the terms in writing if your rights are limited by territory or window.
REALIST
REALIST combines a festival with a B2B program. Competition entries are watched and voted on through the Chill vertical app and online platform, adding a direct audience-interaction layer. That may suit a series whose value depends on conversation and participation. Before entering, understand whether uploading to the app creates a new public release, how voting is moderated and whether the B2B portion is open to every entrant or only selected projects.

Curated online showcases for discovery
FestFlix.tv
FestFlix.tv describes online showcases that keep audiences engaged year-round. It says participating work can be promoted through festival channels, social media, email marketing and filmmaker outreach. This is a good fit when a curated context and discoverability matter more than a premiere badge.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAsk for the practical details: the showcase dates, whether episodes are embedded from your existing host or uploaded, the promotional schedule, the audience regions, and what reporting you receive. A year-round label can mean an ongoing catalog rather than continuous promotion, so distinguish a searchable listing from scheduled marketing. Supply a concise logline, episode runtimes, captions, a trailer and stills that the showcase can reuse legally.
Industry-facing episodic programs
Tribeca NOW
Tribeca NOW explicitly accepts episodic projects, including web series. Selected submitters may also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, which brings emerging storytellers together with distributors, producers, networks, funders and other industry members. Selection is not a promise of a deal; prepare for a conversation about audience, format, rights and the next season rather than only a screening.
In December 2025, Tribeca announced that Tribeca NOW would formally include social-media creators. Tribeca Festival Director and SVP of Programming Cara Cusumano described the expansion this way: “Tribeca’s interdisciplinary programming has always celebrated the best in cinematic storytelling across all platforms, injecting fresh creative voices into the independent ecosystem wherever they are found.” The change is relevant to series designed for vertical or social platforms, but the current submission categories and technical requirements still control eligibility.
Sundance episodic category
Sundance is not a pure alternative to festivals, but its episodic category can matter for a high-profile independent series. Its rules include pilots, multi-episode series and web series with a total running time of 60 minutes or less. The rules also impose strict public-availability restrictions. Read the current rules before publishing any episode publicly; a series that is already freely viewable may lose eligibility even if the work is otherwise a strong match.

For a short episodic project, calculate the total running time exactly as the rules define it, including any required material. Do not assume that a pilot under 60 minutes qualifies if the complete submitted package exceeds the limit or if the public-release date violates the applicable window.
How to compare opportunities before you submit
1. Map the premiere and availability status
Write down every public or semi-public release: a YouTube upload, unlisted screener shared outside the team, a paid online screening, a social-media excerpt and a trailer that reveals substantial footage. Programs differ on what counts as public availability. Tribeca and Sundance may apply restrictions, while Web Series Festival Global describes accepting material already on major social platforms. If uncertain, ask the programmer a precise question and save the answer.
2. Read the rights grant line by line
Look for permission to host, display, stream, download, subtitle, edit clips, sublicense, use your likeness and keep promotional materials after the event. “Display” may include an embedded player, a full upload or an excerpt. Check territory, term, exclusivity and takedown procedure. If a platform can sublicense or continue using footage after the showcase, price that permission into your decision.
3. Match the audience, language and genre
Review recent selections and comparable titles. A tightly focused science-fiction web series may perform better in a genre-aware program than in a general competition with little history of episodic work. Check subtitle expectations, age ratings, language restrictions and whether the audience is primarily domestic or international.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
4. Budget the complete submission
Compare more than the entry fee. Include caption creation, subtitle translation, poster and stills, screener exports, application time, shipping of any physical media and travel if an in-person event follows. Where the published material does not state a fee, treat the amount as unknown rather than assuming entry is free. Free direct entry is specifically described for RTV’s online edition; other programs can change fees by cycle.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
5. Judge the afterlife
Prefer opportunities that leave a searchable project page, a replay window, press coverage, audience data, feedback or introductions. Ask how long a selection remains visible and whether you can link viewers to your next episode. An award with no accessible screener may help credibility but do little for completion rates; a modest showcase with measurable referrals may be more useful for a series still building an audience.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A practical release plan that preserves options
- Define the objective. Choose one primary result—audience, validation, feedback or industry meetings—and a secondary result. Set a measurable target such as completed applications, qualified meetings, email sign-ups or episode completion, not only view count.
- Inventory the project. Record episode runtimes, total season runtime, language, captions, music and archive clearances, public-release dates, territories and any existing exclusivity. This document prevents an accidental rules breach.
- Prepare two versions of the materials. Keep a private, password-protected screener for programmers and buyers. Prepare a public master for the eventual hosted release, plus a trailer, stills, logline, synopsis, creator biography and caption files.
- Shortlist one or two specialist programs. While premiere eligibility remains intact, select programs whose audience and format match the series. Check the current deadline, fee, technical specification, rights grant, judging method and screening permission for each cycle.
- Submit with a clear series proposition. Explain the engine of the series, the intended audience, episode length, season status and what makes the format native to the web. Include a concise plan for future episodes if the project is incomplete, without promising material you have not made.
- Track every submission. Use a spreadsheet with the program, category, fee, deadline, premiere rule, rights term, screener link, contact, result and follow-up date. Store the accepted terms, not just the application confirmation.
- Release through a durable home. After any protected premiere window, publish on the hosted service or owned channel that best fits your audience. Keep the episode order, captions and metadata consistent so viewers can continue watching.
- Add a curated showcase. Apply to an online showcase such as FestFlix.tv when a second discovery window can bring useful attention without undermining an industry submission. Coordinate the showcase link, trailer and social posts so viewers know where the full season lives.
- Use industry introductions deliberately. For Tribeca NOW or another episodic market, bring a one-page rights summary, audience evidence, season outline, budget range and a specific ask. A meeting is more productive when the recipient knows whether you want distribution, development, financing or a co-production partner.
- Review results and adjust. Compare completion, referrals, comments, selections, feedback quality and meetings by route. Keep the channels that produce the outcome you defined; stop renewing placements that generate impressions without viewers or useful contacts.
Submission package checklist
- Private screener with a stable password and backup copy.
- Episode titles, runtimes, season total and a one-sentence hook.
- Short and long synopsis, creator biography and production credits.
- Open captions and subtitle files in the languages the program requests.
- Poster, landscape and vertical stills, trailer and permission to use each asset.
- Music, performance, location, archive and underlying-rights confirmations.
- Public-release history and a plain-language premiere-status statement.
- Rights summary covering territories, term, exclusivity and takedown authority.
- Audience plan explaining who will watch, where they already gather and how you will direct them to the series.
- For industry programs: season outline, budget range, financing status, comparable audience evidence and the precise meeting objective.
Common mistakes and how to recover
Publishing too early
A public episode can disqualify a project from programs with premiere restrictions. If you have not yet released, keep the screener private and verify the rule before posting a trailer. If the series is already public, prioritize programs that explicitly accept online material, hosted distribution and curated showcases.
Confusing stated reach with guaranteed viewers
“More than 70 countries” on the WGWC materials describes WRPN.tv’s stated reach, not a promised audience for every entry. Likewise, Hollywood Series’ network of more than 50 international web festivals does not mean every project is automatically circulated. Ask what exposure a selected title actually receives and request reporting when available.
Granting broader rights than necessary
A submission form may combine judging, public display and promotional use. If you only intend to permit a limited screening, request a narrower term or use a screener that excludes unreleased episodes. Keep written confirmation of any exception.
Choosing prestige over fit
A recognizable name can be useful, but a program with the wrong genre, language or audience may produce less value than a smaller web-native event. Compare comparable selections and the afterlife of prior projects before paying.
Sending an incomplete package
Missing captions, unclear runtimes or a broken screener can eliminate a strong series before anyone evaluates its story. Test the link in a private browser, download the submitted file, check every subtitle track and label each episode unambiguously.
Bottom line: combine a protected premiere with durable distribution
For most independent web series, the resilient strategy is sequential: keep a controlled screener, enter one or two well-matched specialist programs while the project remains eligible, then publish on a hosted platform or owned channel and use curated online showcases to extend discovery. Choose Tribeca NOW or a comparable episodic market when buyer, producer or funder meetings are the real objective. Recheck deadlines, public-release rules, rights language and geographic availability immediately before every submission, because those details are cycle-specific and can change.
