Time to kill is only one part of a useful comparison. Recoil control, effective range, handling speed, magazine capacity, role, and your own accuracy all affect how a rifle performs for you. A weapon’s practical value can also change with mode and attachments.
What changed in the Season 5 weapon patch

- Kilo 141: Maximum damage range increased from 35.6m to 45m, and the next range band expanded from 35.6–45.7m to 45–60m. ADS improved from 270ms to 240ms and sprint-to-fire from 200ms to 170ms. Extended Mag III capacity decreased from 80 to 70 rounds.
- Cypher 091: Minimum damage fell from 37 to 35 and ADS slowed from 235ms to 255ms. Activision said the changes were intended to reduce its long-range effectiveness and create room for other ARs. The patch notes described it as a dominant choice because of its forgiving handling and strong long-range TTK.
- AK-74: Medium-range damage increased from 35 to 37; ADS improved from 285ms to 250ms and sprint-to-fire from 215ms to 180ms. Recoil Springs’ recoil benefit increased from 8% to 15%. Activision said recoil had limited its popularity at long range.
- ABR A1: Its fastest two-burst kill became achievable only with headshots, and bullet velocity decreased from 880m/s to 830m/s.
These are weapon balance values published by Activision for the 2025 patch, not independent measurements of match outcomes. Since Warzone weapon balance is patch-sensitive, check the current patch before treating an August 2025 recommendation as live advice.

The capacity-versus-handling trade-off matters most when choosing a build for your own role: a larger magazine can help sustain fire, but slower weapon handling can be a disadvantage when reacting quickly or changing targets.
How to choose an AR for your playstyle
- For the Season 5 overall recommendation: Start with the CR-56 AMAX, the top-ranked rifle in Dexerto’s August 2025 list.
- For faster-kill potential: Consider the FFAR 1, which Dexerto places second and describes as capable of an even faster TTK.
- For a flexible all-rounder: The XM4 is Dexerto’s balanced option.
- For a long-range build example: The Kilo 141 setup above shows one dated attachment configuration, but does not establish the Kilo as the best AR overall.
Your accuracy, preferred engagement distance, mode, and willingness to trade handling for capacity should guide the final choice. Recoil that feels manageable to one player may make another player less consistent, so a ranking is a starting point rather than a guarantee.

ComputerCity published an article with the exact title on August 11, 2025, but its recommendations appear inconsistent with the official Season 5 Warzone context.
