Start with 1280×800 on Steam Deck, the lowest available effects preset, and a 30 FPS cap. Lower fog, weather, post-processing, shadows, and other effects before reducing texture quality. On a low-end Windows PC, begin at 1280×720 (or the display’s native resolution) with the lowest effects preset, then reduce resolution only if frame pacing remains uneven. These are sensible starting points rather than measured benchmarks: no dated Ashfield Hollow FPS, 1% low, battery-life, or frame-time results have been published, and the full game is still planned for Q1 2027.
The recommendations below apply to the free demo, which is the only version with published hands-on availability in the cited material. The demo officially supports Steam Deck, controllers, and save progress that will carry into the full game.

What these settings can—and cannot—promise
Ashfield Hollow is a 2D post-apocalyptic life sim from BitQuest Studio combining survival combat, farming, crafting, fishing, base building, and exploration. The free demo released in September 2025 and contains roughly 10 hours of play on default settings. An official Steam Community announcement dated 31 August 2026 confirms full keyboard-and-mouse support, full controller support, Steam Deck support, and save carryover into the full game.

Those compatibility statements are stronger than any performance claim currently available. The published material does not include a complete graphics-menu list, a Steam Deck preset, or a reproducible FPS test. It also does not establish battery life or 1% lows. Consequently, the settings in this guide are a method for finding a stable result on your machine, not a promise that every Deck or PC will hold a particular frame rate.

Quick-start settings by system
Use the row closest to your hardware, then adjust one option at a time. “Lowest effects” means the lowest preset or effects level the current build exposes; the exact label may differ.
| System | Resolution and aspect ratio | Initial frame-rate target | First quality changes | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Deck | 1280×800, the panel’s native output | 30 FPS cap; test 40 FPS only after a stable overlay reading | Lowest effects; reduce fog, weather, post-processing, shadows, or similar controls before textures | Frame-time consistency during fog or morning mist, crowded combat, and large animal groups |
| Integrated-graphics laptop | 1280×720 on a 16:9 screen, or native resolution if performance is already steady | 30 FPS is the conservative starting point | Lowest effects, then resolution if pacing is poor | Whether the game is using the integrated GPU and whether effects-heavy scenes cause spikes |
| Low-end desktop with a discrete GPU | Native display resolution if stable; otherwise 1280×720 | Begin at 30 FPS and raise the cap only after testing | Lowest effects first; keep more resolution if the discrete GPU has headroom | Correct GPU selection, frame-time graph, and performance in the busiest areas |
These are starting points, not a ranking of which platform is “fastest.” The available sources establish compatibility and minimum requirements, but they do not provide comparable measurements across Deck, integrated graphics, and discrete-GPU desktops.

1. Confirm that you are testing the supported demo
Install the free demo through its current Steam listing and allow it to finish updating before judging performance. The documented demo is a 64-bit Windows application running through RPGMaker Engine, with full controller support and Steam Deck touchscreen metadata recorded by SteamDB. Steam Deck support is therefore an official compatibility target, not an assumption based only on the minimum PC specification.
2. Keep the native 1280×800 output initially
Start at 1280×800 so the Deck’s display does not add scaling as a variable. If the game has both a display-resolution setting and a separate render-scale option, leave render scale at its default until you establish a baseline. Do not immediately lower resolution simply because the hardware is portable; the published minimum includes Intel UHD 620/G1-class graphics, and the Deck’s practical result depends on the build and scene.
3. Choose the lowest available effects level
Select the lowest preset or effects level exposed by the demo. If there is no single preset, make a note of each individual value so you can undo changes later. Start with visual effects rather than texture quality: the developer’s official notes specifically mention optimization work involving fog, morning mist, large animal groups, and crowded combat.

4. Cap at 30 FPS before trying higher targets
Set a 30 FPS cap in the game when that control exists, or use the SteamOS frame-rate limiter. A cap gives the system a consistent pacing target and makes short tests easier to compare. A 40 FPS target is optional: try it only after the overlay remains stable in the scenes that previously produced the largest spikes. There is no published Ashfield Hollow benchmark that validates 40 FPS across the Deck.
5. Test the effects-heavy situations
Do not judge the setting while standing in an empty room. Check a section with morning mist or other fog, then a fight with several enemies, and then an area containing many animals. The patch notes identify those situations as performance priorities, so they are more informative than a quiet menu or a static camp view. Watch the frame-time graph, not only the headline FPS number.
6. Change one control at a time
If pacing is uneven, lower fog or weather first when those controls exist. Next try post-processing, shadows, and general effects. Restart the same test scene after each change and write down the result. Changing resolution, effects, and the frame cap simultaneously hides which adjustment helped.
7. Keep controller and touchscreen variables separate
The demo lists full controller support, and SteamDB records touchscreen metadata. Test with the input method you intend to use for a full session. A control problem is not automatically a graphics problem: if movement or menus feel wrong, verify the active controller layout before lowering visual settings.

Published minimum requirements
The official demo page lists the following minimum target:
Recommended Free Tools
| Component | Published minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 equivalent |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Intel UHD Graphics 620/G1 equivalent |
| Graphics API | DirectX 11 |
| Storage | 650 MB available space |
Meeting these figures means the demo is designed to start on that class of hardware; it does not establish a guaranteed FPS or quality preset. Background applications, thermal limits, display resolution, drivers, and the specific game build can all change frame pacing.

Start with a 16:9 baseline
For a 16:9 laptop or monitor, begin at 1280×720 if you want a controlled low-end baseline. If your system already runs smoothly at native resolution, keep native output and test there instead. Lower resolution only after reducing effects, because a resolution change can make a 2D game look softer while leaving a fog or post-processing bottleneck untouched.
Use the correct GPU on hybrid Windows systems
Systems with both integrated and discrete graphics can launch a game on the lower-power adapter. SteamDB documents a Windows launch option for Ashfield Hollow: --force_high_performance_gpu. In Steam, open the game’s Properties, find the Launch Options field, and enter that option exactly when you need to force the high-performance adapter. Remove it if your system behaves better without the override. Confirm the active adapter in Windows or your graphics driver’s performance panel before comparing results.
Set a conservative cap first
Use a 30 FPS cap for the first pass. Once the game holds that target in fog, weather, combat, and animal-heavy scenes, raise the cap in small steps if your display and hardware justify it. Because no authoritative Ashfield Hollow FPS series has been published, a higher cap should be treated as a personal result tied to your hardware and build, not a universal recommendation.
Which Ashfield Hollow fog and weather settings to lower first
The official notes call out fog and morning mist, large animal groups, and crowded combat as areas receiving performance work. That does not prove a particular slider is the sole cause of a slowdown, but it provides a rational order for testing:
- Fog and morning mist: lower or disable a dedicated fog, mist, or atmosphere option if the menu exposes one.
- Weather effects: reduce rain, particles, or weather quality when those controls are separate.
- Post-processing: lower bloom, color effects, screen-space filters, or an equivalent post-processing group.
- Shadows: reduce shadow quality or distance if available, especially when combat scenes remain uneven.
- General effects: use the lowest effects preset if individual controls are absent.
- Resolution: reduce output resolution only after the effects pass, unless the frame-time graph shows that resolution is clearly the limiting factor.
- Textures: change texture quality last. The published evidence does not identify textures as a primary Ashfield Hollow bottleneck.
Not every build will expose all seven controls. If a setting is missing, skip it rather than substituting an unrelated option.
How to measure Ashfield Hollow FPS without fooling yourself
A single number from a quiet area is not a useful benchmark. Use a repeatable route and document the conditions:

- Spend several minutes in a normal camp or exploration area to establish a baseline.
- Repeat the test in fog or morning mist, during a crowded fight, and near a large animal group.
- Read the Steam or operating-system performance overlay, including frame time when available.
- Repeat the same route after each change and record the worst sustained behavior, not a brief peak.
Report results as “this build, this device, this resolution, this cap.” The available published material contains no named, dated average FPS, 1% low, or frame-time result, so any number you obtain is your own measurement and should not be presented as an official Ashfield Hollow benchmark.
Troubleshooting common low-end problems
The game is slower than expected despite meeting minimum specs
Check that Windows is using the intended GPU, then confirm the game is not running above native resolution through an external scaling tool. Apply the lowest effects settings, cap at 30 FPS, and retest the fog, weather, combat, and animal-heavy scenes. Minimum requirements describe a launch target, not a guaranteed frame rate.
Performance collapses when fog or mist appears
Lower the fog or atmosphere control first, followed by weather and post-processing if available. Keep the test route identical so you can distinguish a setting change from a different scene. If the build has no such controls, use the lowest overall effects level and reduce resolution only if the frame-time graph remains high.
Combat with many characters stutters
Use the lowest effects and shadow settings, maintain the 30 FPS cap, and test again in the same encounter. The developer’s notes specifically mention crowded combat as an optimization area, so a later demo update may behave differently.
Large groups of animals cause spikes
Repeat the animal-heavy test after lowering effects, fog, weather, and shadows in that order. Do not infer that a stable camp view proves the setting is stable everywhere.

The demo advertises full controller support. Verify that the controller is recognized by Steam before launching, then test the game’s default layout. If input remains wrong while frame pacing is normal, treat it as an input configuration issue rather than lowering graphics quality.

A hybrid laptop appears to ignore the discrete GPU
Use the documented --force_high_performance_gpu launch option, then verify the adapter in Windows or the driver panel. Compare a run with and without the option; the override is a tool for selecting the adapter, not an FPS guarantee.
Storage, power, and accessories
The demo lists 650 MB of available storage, so capacity is not a demanding requirement by current handheld standards. A Steam Deck microSD card can provide optional space for the demo and other games, but it is not an FPS upgrade. Storage expansion does not replace the need to tune effects or resolve frame-time problems.
No published Ashfield Hollow battery-life measurement is available. Avoid treating a particular power limit, wattage setting, or battery estimate as universal until it has been measured on a named build and Deck configuration. The same caution applies to docks, chargers, and external displays: they can change ergonomics or resolution, but they do not establish a title-specific performance result.

Ashfield Hollow’s full game is planned for Q1 2027, while the demo is the only version with published hands-on availability in the cited material. Recheck the minimum requirements, graphics menu, Steam Deck behavior, and controller notes when the release build arrives. Save progress from the demo is intended to carry into the full game according to the 31 August 2026 official announcement, but that feature and its exact process should still be verified in the launch build.
For now, the defensible baseline is simple: native 1280×800 and a 30 FPS cap on Deck; 1280×720 or native 16:9 output on a low-end PC; lowest effects first; fog, weather, post-processing, and shadows before textures; and a repeatable test in the scenes the developer has identified as demanding. Any higher target should be earned by your own frame-time readings rather than assumed from the minimum specification.
