There is no single best Baldur’s Gate 3 graphics preset for every PC or handheld. For Steam Deck, Larian’s official recommendations offer a useful starting point, but its later native Deck build changes the context for older Proton-era advice. On PC, tune settings around your hardware, output resolution, and whether you value smoother performance or sharper image quality. To enlarge text, use the specific book and readable-item option in Interface Options.
Steam Deck: start with Larian’s recommendations
Larian’s Steam Deck performance FAQ recommends the following baseline in the game’s Options > Video menu:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Display mode: Fullscreen
- Aspect ratio: 16:9
- Video options: Default, with the overall preset set to Medium if performance is a problem
- Upscaling: AMD FSR 1.0 set to Balanced for performance troubleshooting
The same FAQ recommends the controller layout “Official Layout for Baldur’s Gate 3 – Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad” and checking for Steam Deck system software updates. These are device-specific starting points, not a universal preset for desktop PCs or other platforms.

Larian later announced a native Steam Deck build in its Hotfix #34 article. The studio says native execution uses less CPU and memory than running through Proton, and that after the update the game launches with native Deck graphics settings by default. Larian describes the change as “resulting in a more stable framerate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay”; that is the studio’s description, not an independently measured guarantee for every device or play session.
#1 Best Overall
- 【INTEGRATED SPEAKERS】Whether you're at work or in the midst of an intense gaming session, our built-in speakers provide rich and seamless audio, all while keeping your desk clutter-free.
- 【EASY ON THE EYES】 Protect your eyes and enhance your comfort with Blue-Light Shift technology. This feature reduces harmful blue light emissions from your screen, helping to alleviate eye strain during long hours of use and promoting healthier viewing habits.
- 【WIDEN YOUR PERSPECTIVE】Our sleek minimal bezel design ensures undivided attention. The nearly bezel-free display seamlessly connects in a dual monitor arrangement, delivering an unobstructed view that lets you focus on more at once, completely distraction-free.
If the image looks blurry
Larian says the default FSR 1 upscaling can make the image look fuzzy. In its native-build guidance, it suggests switching to FSR 2.2 for better image quality, with some performance cost. Try that if sharpness matters more than the extra performance headroom; keep FSR 1.0 Balanced if performance is the priority. The right choice depends on the scene and your preference, so compare both at your usual play resolution.
PC: tune settings to your hardware and target resolution
The available official guidance does not establish a current, comprehensive PC preset tested across different hardware classes. Use a repeatable adjustment process rather than assuming one setting will solve every slowdown:

- 1800R curve monitor the curved display delivers a revolutionary visual experience with a leading 1800R screen curvature as the images appear to wrap around you for an in depth, immersive experience
- Hdmi, VGA & PC audio in ports
- High refresh rate 75Hz.Brightness (cd/m²):250 cd/m2
- Vesa wall mount ready; Lamp Life: 30,000+ Hours
- Windows 10 Sceptre Monitors are fully compatible with Windows 10, the most recent operating System available on PCs.Brightness: 220 cd/M2
- Check your baseline. If performance is already poor, begin with the game’s default settings or a Medium preset.
- Choose your output resolution first. Higher output resolutions generally require more graphics work. If you lower resolution or use scaling, check that interface text remains comfortable to read.
- Change one demanding visual option at a time. Test the same scene after each adjustment so you can tell whether it helped. Lower visual quality incrementally rather than making several changes at once.
- Try an upscaler only if its result looks acceptable. Available options depend on your graphics hardware and rendering API; the names do not indicate interchangeable support.
- Notice where slowdowns occur. A graphics-heavy scene and a CPU-heavy area can respond differently to the same settings. Do not assume a single graphics option fixes both.
Larian’s support page lists a later performance-focused Hotfix #35, so patch version can matter when comparing advice. Check the Larian support page for current patch information rather than treating older settings advice as a description of every current performance issue.
Check the published PC requirements
Steam’s Baldur’s Gate 3 technical listing publishes these Windows requirements. They describe the listed minimum and recommended tiers, not a promised frame rate or specific quality preset; check the live listing because requirements can change.

Upscaling support depends on the hardware and API
For Intel XeSS, Larian’s Hotfix #34 article specifies XeSS on DX11 for Intel Xe graphics, and on Vulkan for Intel Xe and graphics from other vendors. That is a qualified support statement, not a promise that every PC configuration can use the same option.
NVIDIA says Baldur’s Gate 3 supports DLSS 2 and DLAA. The company also reports an average 93% performance increase in its own RTX 40 Series desktop benchmarks. That vendor-reported result applies to NVIDIA’s benchmark context; it is not an independent result or an expectation for all PCs.

Make books and readable items easier to read
Larian’s Patch 6 notes document a setting for changing the text size in books and other legible items. Find it under Options > Interface Options and adjust it to suit your reading distance and display. The documented control applies to books and other readable items; the notes do not establish that it enlarges every menu, subtitle, dialogue line, or interface element.
Larian also noted that graphics settings did not apply correctly on some 4K monitors. If a graphics change appears to have no effect, check that the game is running at the resolution you expect and that it is updated to a current patch. The issue is documented in the Patch 6 notes; this is a troubleshooting check, not evidence that every 4K display has the problem.
Best Value
- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Why the advice differs by platform
Steam Deck, Windows PC, and consoles do not share identical hardware or graphics options. Larian’s Deck recommendations should not be copied wholesale to a desktop PC, and the reviewed official material does not establish a comparable user-adjustable graphics preset for PS5 or Xbox. Console patch notes about stability or smoothness are not a console graphics-tuning guide. For Deck owners, follow the native-build context; for PC players, make controlled changes based on your own hardware and target resolution.
