Which remaster fits the kind of game you want?
| Game | Best fit | Documented remaster changes and additions | Platforms noted by official sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition | Classic real-time strategy | 4K Ultra HD graphics, remastered soundtrack, new content, original campaigns and expansions; the official game page lists 35 civilizations and more than 200 hours of gameplay. | PC and PlayStation 5 routes are cited; verify local availability. |
| Diablo II: Resurrected | Action-RPG | Remasters Diablo II and Lord of Destruction, with rebuilt 3D graphics, remastered audio, new cinematics, quality-of-life changes and cross-progression. | PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch are listed in Blizzard’s announcement and launch guide; check current edition availability. |
| Command & Conquer Remastered Collection | Classic PC strategy | Includes Command & Conquer, Red Alert and all three expansion packs, plus rebuilt multiplayer, modernized UI, map editor, mod support, bonus footage and more than seven hours of remastered music. | EA’s launch announcement points to Origin and Steam; current regional availability is not established here. |
The word “definitive” does not describe one standard recipe. A graphics overhaul, an audio remaster, new content, interface changes and rebuilt multiplayer are distinct parts of each package. Choose according to the genre and features you care about, rather than assuming every remaster preserves or modernizes its original in the same way.
