It asks you to build a village on the back of a giant creature and keep both the villagers and their host alive. For shelter-scale survival or bleak civilian stories, Sheltered and This War of Mine: Complete Edition are stronger fits—but neither is a city builder.
How these games compare with Frostpunk
Frostpunk combines settlement management with survival decisions under pressure. Nintendo’s Australia listing calls it “a society survival game where heat means life and every decision comes at a price.” Its page confirms a Switch listing, but does not establish release timing or purchase status in every region: Nintendo Australia’s Frostpunk page.

The closest match: The Wandering Village
Nintendo describes The Wandering Village as a “city-building simulation game on the back of a giant, wandering creature.” You build a settlement on Onbu, plan production chains, and adapt as the creature travels through changing biomes. The challenge is unusually two-sided: environmental hazards threaten the villagers, while the settlement also depends on its living host.
This is the strongest pick if the part of Frostpunk you want to preserve is growing and managing a settlement while reacting to environmental danger. The setting and relationship with Onbu make it its own game rather than a mechanical Frostpunk clone. Nintendo’s Canada page confirms the Switch version and outlines its building and survival systems: Nintendo Canada’s The Wandering Village page.

A physical Nintendo Switch edition is also described in Serenity Forge’s Premium Edition store listing: Serenity Forge’s The Wandering Village listing. For a retailer search, “The Wandering Village Nintendo Switch game” is a useful phrase; retailer stock and seller details are not established here.
For shelter management: Sheltered
Sheltered puts survival at the scale of one family rather than a settlement. You protect four family members after an apocalypse, maintain an underground shelter, and manage needs and threats that include radiation, mental exhaustion, attacks, and scavenging. Choose it if you want close-up upkeep and the pressure of keeping specific people alive more than city planning. Nintendo’s US listing describes the Switch edition and included add-on content: Nintendo US’s Sheltered page.

For bleak civilian survival: This War of Mine: Complete Edition
This War of Mine shifts the focus from building a city to surviving as civilians in a besieged one. The core rhythm is maintaining a hideout during the day and scavenging at night, with scarcity, danger, and moral choices shaping the experience. It suits players drawn to Frostpunk’s harsh human dilemmas, but its central loop is civilian shelter survival, not settlement construction. Nintendo’s UK page describes the game and the content included in the Complete Edition: Nintendo UK’s This War of Mine: Complete Edition page.
