Look for real 120Hz HDMI input
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are 120Hz-class consoles, so specify a display that accepts 120Hz over HDMI. Ignore labels such as Motion Rate 240 unless the manufacturer also states the actual input refresh rate. A TV can advertise a high motion number while accepting only 4K/60 from a console.

Check the exact HDMI port capabilities rather than assuming that a bright panel automatically accepts 4K/120Hz and VRR. If those features are central to your setup, verify them in the regional specification before purchase.

How do you connect and configure a PS5 or Xbox for 4K, 120Hz, VRR, and HDR?
Install the display first, then verify the complete signal path. A console connected through a soundbar or receiver can lose 4K/120Hz, HDR, or VRR if an intermediate device does not pass those formats.

- Use a verified HDMI 2.1 port. Connect the console directly to the display’s HDMI 2.1 input when possible. Note the port number because many TVs reserve their highest-bandwidth features for specific sockets.
- Use a suitable cable. Keep the console’s high-speed cable or another cable rated for the desired 4K/120Hz signal. Replace the cable if the console repeatedly falls back to 60Hz or loses HDR.
- Check the PS5 video output page. Open the PS5 settings for Screen and Video, then inspect Video Output. Confirm the connected-device information, enable 120 Hz Output where supported, and enable VRR and ALLM when the TV or monitor supports them.
- Check Xbox video reporting. On Xbox Series X|S, open the console’s TV and display options and confirm the reported resolution, refresh rate, HDR capability, and VRR capability.
