Want alternatives? Microsoft’s live Xbox Store filter for top free games with cross-platform multiplayer also lists Brawlhalla, Overwatch, and Destiny 2. The listing is useful for discovery, but does not by itself confirm each game’s current PC-Xbox party steps or the limits of its free content. Check crossplay before you invite friends
Crossplay means people using different platforms can play the same game together; it does not automatically mean they share saved progress or purchases. Epic’s July 14, 2025 guide describes crossplay across PC, consoles, and mobile, and distinguishes it from cross-save. Warframe’s developer guide gives a specific example of cross-platform save linking, with its own requirements and restrictions.
Apex Legends: PC matchmaking for mixed parties
EA says cross-platform play is enabled by default. On Xbox One, an additional system-level setting must be enabled. When a console player parties with someone on PC, the party is placed into PC matches. EA also says cross-platform parties can use in-game voice chat. Review EA’s FAQ if you need the current Xbox One setting instructions.

Warframe: crossplay and cross-save are separate
Warframe supports cross-platform missions through squads or public matchmaking. To set up a cross-platform save, the guide requires a PC account as the linking component; you do not have to play the PC version. Only one account from each platform can be linked to a cross-platform save account. TennoGen purchases and some trading arrangements remain subject to platform-specific conditions. The Microsoft Store filter identifies games as free and shows labels such as in-app purchases or Game Pass inclusion for some listings. Those labels, regional availability, and free-content details can change; use the live filtered listing and the individual game page for the region and platform you use.

Game Pass is not established as a requirement to play the free games above. Xbox Wire’s March 26, 2025 article describes optional in-game benefits for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members in selected free-to-play games; depending on the game, an Xbox profile login or account link may be needed.
